Juventus should go ahead and purchase Pulisic, Adams, Dest, shoot Aaronson too, and keep McKennie. And then, hire Marsch.
Cardoso was playing as an 8 in that tournament while he is squarely a 6. I’m not sure why so many people were so down on him after that.
That team was also a mess generally. I've never judged anyone badly based on that tournament given the larger issues.
Remember that Jackson Yuiell was the star of that team, and Jonathan Lewis was also a legit player then too. It’s crazy how much the US seems to have progressed from the 90s birth years to the 00s.
Well we also had a ton of guys just not available (Pulisic, Reyna, Adams, Aaronson, Weah, Jedi, Dest, Robinson, Richards, EPB, CCV, Sargent, Musah, LDLT, Cannon, McKenzie, McKennie, Ledezma, Dike, and probably others I'm forgetting) and also alot of omissions that don't look great in hindsight (Williamson, Ebobisse, Pepi, Busio, Sands, Cowell, Reynolds, and Parks, Trusty).
Because he didn't play well. .........................but many people urged patience as well. That team was OK. It was clearly a "B" or worse team. In the group stage they beat a Costa Rica "A" U23 team on a goal by Jesus Ferreira. Played strong Mexico and Honduras teams to close games but lost by a goal. What did losing at that competition mean? Squadoosh. Absolutely squadoosh. How many players from that team made the World Cup roster? I think the answer is one. Jesus Ferreira. [Sam Vines would at least have had a shot if he hadn't gotten hurt.] We want to play in as many tournaments and competitions as possible. We should want our team to have the problem that the France U20s just had. Clubs declined callups of 28 players to the France U20WC team. The players were deemed too important to send to some youth competition. We should want a day soon when we have the same problem. That 30 US U20 or U23s are unavailable for a youth event competition. That's a good thing. It was a good thing that Atlanta said "we have the CONCACAF Champions League games during that time. Robinson and Bello are too important to release to a USYNT event." Great! That's what we want! And that particular CONCACAF U23 Championships event (held at a weird time due to COVID delays) is an example of what can happen.
And here he is....Your #TSG-Player of the Month ➡️ John Anthony Brooks 👏 pic.twitter.com/whKMCISQET— TSG Hoffenheim EN (@tsghoffenheimEN) June 1, 2023 Good to see he’s back from the abyss and playing well.
I would rather see more of a Union viewpoint, by which while the players may have important roles, being able to participate in international competition is also important.
I remember having a conversation with a MX fan right before the last NL tourney, and I said "Don't sleep on the USA, they have 6 new starters from the team you beat us 3-0". His reply was "It doesn't matter who they have, we will beat them again". So far, they are 0-5 beating us.
When does thread expire? Are we following the popular "UEFA calendar" (23/24 starts July 1) or the Premier League calendar (window and training camps open June 15th)?
George bello on bench for a playoff that isn’t the fun kind. They’re down 1-0 to 3 liga playoff team in the relegation playoffs. He’s on bench. Shoulda went to Belgium kid
BigJ lost weight and is moving really well. I watched a bunch of his games in the 2nd half of the season at Hoffenheim. He played the central role in a 3 cb set. He actually passes almost as well with his right as his natural left so not a bad idea, also considering his strongest asset is aerial game. Matarazzo got that one right. Pity Matarazzo hasn't been considered for US job.
What do you base that on? He says he has nothing (futbol Americas). Perhaps they were waiting to contact him til sometime after BL season ended. Dunno. Honestly, the way people are talking, it sounds like the fix is in for Marsch or Berhalter. I'm kind of worried because the Berhalter crew is talking about how the new stuff they are doing is "building" on what they were doing for years under Berhalter. Oof. I'd like to drop a strong laxative into the water cooler at Chicago house.
Because he's far from firmly been a 6 in his career and the position in the center didn't explain why he couldn't trap the ball and circumvent a defender, then make a measured pass. He'd need to do that in all CM positions. Also had trouble closing down. He'd need to do that more as an out and out d-mid. In addition, he hasn't done anything since internationally to overcome that stink. Not a ton of minutes, but 150, across 6 appearances, is enough for an interim test. He didn't pass. Maybe he's improved. But a-team comps are about what you've proven. At minimum he should have to earn these shots thru b-team ones or friendlies. He was even an alternate for the WC. He hasn't warranted his status so far on any merit. It's on perceived mold, perceived potential, and dual national threat.
Johnny has almost exclusively not played as a 6 since that tournament and is probably getting sold off of those performances.
Johnny is the type of player we typically do not see in the US. He’s the fantastic athlete with size, strength, grace, power, and balance who plays with Brazilian guile, skill, and freedom. He will get many, many opportunities because of his play in Brazil and in future leagues. The guy is a clear top prospect for the US.
I think they are running a process and we don’t have a ton of insight into who the candidates are. Matarazzo may be a candidate or he may not be. I just don’t think anyone can make definitive statements unless they are actually part of the process. He very notably did not deny interest on Futbol Americas. It’s unlikely to be Berhalter though. If they were going to rehire hum they would have done so already. Marsch is probably a candidate for sure but he’s being treated as a sure thing based off one not super reliable report. Just look at the sporting director search. They hired a name no one predicted. I don’t think anyone really knows anything of substance right now in terms of the coaching search.
❗️Rangers made an offer of £7M for Haji Wright while Villarreal also made an offer of €10M. Antalyaspor rejected both offers. 🏴🇪🇸❌[@ertansuzgun] pic.twitter.com/Eb6eoInqCU— USMNT Otaku 🇺🇸 (@USMNTOtaku) June 2, 2023
