If we stick strictly to the soccer side of things, I don't think Fisher actively screwed the team or anything with respect to how they are doing on the field today. If anything Fisher lacks vision and ambition on the business side - I feel like there are a number of reasons unrelated to the MLS standings why the Quakes feel so irrelevant, and it comes down to the owner not seeing the team as a potential big ticket entertainment property in a major market. Everything has a small-town, provincial feel from the sponsors to the stadium amenities.
Indeed! Much of our fanbase has been Stockholm Syndromed over the years into thinking that what we have is normal and that what all other MLS teams have is too expensive/extravagant/opulent/Taj Mahal/whatever else, whereas the reality is that what everyone else has is normal (perhaps even modest) while what we have (if we even have it at all) is cheap as f***. What's provincial about the sponsors? Quakes have a wide array of international, national and local companies. https://www.sjearthquakes.com/club/partners Also, PayPalPark is a great venue to watch a soccer game.

Yes. a lot of teams have sponsors that are local, like Austin and Yeti. Wasn't it a complaint here that we didn't have a big name local tech company as a sponsor? Now we do with the stadium. Just have to get the jersey sorted out. Intermedia is local, but, pretty much unheard of.
By the way, I wasn’t really referring to the sponsors as I was to the stadium and the training facilities, such as they are. In fact, it’s good to have local sponsors as well as national and international ones, both in showing an interest by local businesses in our club and in showing an effort by our front office to reach out and obtain said local sponsors. Back in 2005, despite the team’s on-field success, AEG had purposefully let things deteriorate here off the field to the point that the long-time sideline adboards (many of which included local sponsors) were replaced with a single banner hung against a small portion of then-Spartan Stadium’s east-side field wall that included only the league’s national sponsors. Seeing that for the first time that season was definitely a “roh-roh” moment for me. Conversely (for example), a few years ago someone here posted some indoor and outdoor pics of a newly-built, truly professional-class training facility for some other MLS team. Some of the posters here were seemingly flabbergasted and exacerbated, exclaiming that that new facility was “too much” for an MLS team and whatnot. Which, in reality, it wasn’t at all. PPP is a little "erector set" and (literally) bare bones, but it's fine, we just need to put together a winning season there. Imagine the place packed to the rafters each game, demand for tickets through the roof, Quakes playing some inspired, dominant ball, and actually making a run for the cup. PPP desperately needs a winning season.

U20's up on New Zealand 1-0, Cade playing well and has hit some decent crosses with his left, though he appears to be playing more of a central role vs. winger. But the US is squandering many chances and this is the type of game that can bite you in the butt. The crowd, not large, but presmably mostly Argentinian, will let you knew when you blow chances or otherwise play bad soccer. And now, Cade scores with his left! That should it.
He just scored 2-0 USA...I'm up in the middle of the night in Incheon following ESPN matchtracker...no stream
3-0 justin Che scores...looks like we're ripping them on counters...tailor made game for Cade...hope he picks up another. Cade subbed out for Paredes...but Niko on for Luna.
I said it a couple of pages back. NZ aren't very good at all. US20 on the other hand are a very good team. Although, their group wasn't very tough and they haven't been tested outside of Ecuador, which they won 1-0. Next will be the winner of Uruguay/Gambia... Things will get more interesting.
Our biggest rivals just got less incompetent... BREAKING: The LA Galaxy have parted ways with longtime president Chris Klein."As a club we have not achieved our goals or met the standard that we have established for the LA Galaxy,” said AEG's CEO Beckerman.Quick story w/ @PaulTenorio & @EliasBurke https://t.co/4ziErUPUh7— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 30, 2023
But he promised - if the Gals don't make the playoffs, he'll fire himself! Smart move though not to let Klein scapegoat Vanney by firing Vanney, which might have been his next self-preserving move.
Brazil court is looking to arrest Douglas Costa (LAG's under performing DP) for unpaid child support. Will Kuntz is also talking up some big trades they're planning this summer. They are prohibited from international signings (due to cheating) but they can do league trades and they can sign anyone who is a free agent once the trade window closes. Does any team have any big DPs who might be looking for a trade? Toronto maybe?
Not a "big DP" but they may be looking to fix their defense. Mensah for either Tyler Boyd or Joveljic (11 goals in 983 minutes last year?)? Any takers? I'd consider it.
Ball don't lie! Benji had a very respectable 6 goals in 1300-something minutes last year, but still a ways from Joveljic's 11 in 900-something.
No, but only because of Cade's anticipated transfer value. If it was just about performance today, I'd take Jove. Besides market's way up for Serbian guys whose names start with "J".
