So much for the academy "developing players for the future". On the other hand, I’m not sure who gets the transfer money as it used to go to the league. If the Quakes profit from selling either Cade or Niko, they will have paid for the cost of the entire academy for a few years.
And if it's a U22 (like Cade now is) some percentage can be used as GAM in the same year presumably, according to a sliding scale: Transfer of Player: In the event a player occupying a U22 Initiative Slot is transferred outside of the League, 100% of the proceeds of the sale (i.e., after out-of-pocket amounts are recouped) will be paid to the Club and such amounts may be converted to General Allocation Money based on the below sliding scale: ≤ $2,500,000 -> $1,050,000 $3,000,000 -> $840,000 $3,500,000 -> $630,000 $4,000,000 -> $420,000 $4,500,000 -> $210,000 ≥ $5,000,000 -> $0 I don't know why the lower transfer amounts have higher GAM. Rewarding mediocrity?
It's all a bit convoluted, but I believe you missed the label of the left column there. It's not the fee for the outgoing transfer, it's "Acquisition cost of the Player for coming into the League (e.g., both Loan and Transfer costs)". That means it's the original cost to acquire the U22 Initiative player that determines the sliding scale. If the team spent a huge amount to acquire the player and later sells him, they don't get a bunch of extra GAM for that transaction, because financially the whole thing is basically a wash. But if they acquired him cheaply, even for $0 in the case of Cade, the transfer produced a big net inflow of cash, so they get the GAM. Note that any part of the incoming fee that isn't converted to GAM still goes to the club as cash.
Depending on what both Cade and Niko do in their next game or games, the price tag keeps going up. That is , whomever wants to fork over good money. I’m thinking they will go to Germany or England. A $10 million transfer fee is not much for most top Euro clubs but in MLS and Quakes circles, it’s an incredible amount of money.
Ah, OK, now it makes more sense. It's quite relevant for the Quakes because if they transferred Cade say this summer, it'd be $1.05M GAM, which presumably could be used to say buy down Mensah (or another of the Quakes current 3 DP's) and then sign another DP.
All of these guys save the CBS have 1000+ pro minutes, last cycle we still had guys in college. This is a very good U20 roster 🤷🏻♂️ they won’t all be superstars but that’s normal for this level— Paul Harvey (@Thundering165) May 5, 2023
Why would you post an old tweet from May 5 where someone (like literally a random person on the internet) is speculating about a roster, on May 29 when we've already had the actual roster for a long time, and the players on that real roster is even through the group stage already? Why would you post some person's roster speculation that doesn't even include Niko Tsakiris on their not-real roster, in the Niko Tsakiris thread specifically? The point he is making about his speculative roster in the follow up tweet that you actually posted is that everyone on it except the CBs "have 1000+ pro minutes"... Well Tsakiris (who again is NOT on his not-real roster) does NOT have 1000+ pro minutes because he's missed so many games this season with injury... So that doesn't even apply to him? Just amazing stuff here, a master at work...

I don't go to stuff like this... I always wondered if marketing like this worked (since we keep doing it I have to assume so).
It's really a bad time. Rush hour on a weekday. Who's gonna brave that unless you're already hardcore and therefore likely to already have tix to Saturday's game?
It appears the Campbell light rail station is approximately two miles from Soccer Kraze, which seems to be me to be not particularly convenient.
