Interesting take from Twitter. We nearly won all 4 and did this in the transfer market, and sold our player of the year. Good work Reflecting on Liverpool’s summer window one year later: Nunez, Carvalho, Ramsay and Arthur on loan. So incredibly bad. Two square pegs in round holes - one of whom is now available for loan - and two who have literally been injured all season.
It's not that's wrong in black and white. crazy enough - even with that shit - we still could have should have made the CL.
We also bought Diaz in January, which was originally meant to be a summer signing until Spurs got involved.
Yep but if we look at the players bought one year ago in the summer , we signed four players but really only used one (Nunez). None of them addressed our true needs which was midfield . I know hindsight is 20/20 but looking back the business done could have been much better .Nunez had a mixed season and the others had virtually no impact . The signings this summer will need to be much more effective if we're to bounce back next season .
I think that it was this: - we really believed we could get Bellingham but he'd soak up almost / all of our $$ leaving no room for others to be signed - we could tag-team Hendo/Fab/Thiago/Harvey until Jones got healthy - we could give Baj another year to mature in the meantime but a) Harvey, while talented and works his bum off, is a square attacking peg in a round midfield hole b) Jones' problems simply wouldn't go away (we can now see how much stronger we are with him) c) the older guys collectively were completely running on fumes (at best) and none could stay injury-free
Looks like Macallister is a matter of time. Quality quality player. But shouldn't it be Caicedo & AMac
Liverpool could sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, 28, for 26m euros (£22.5m), with the Serbia international's contract due to expire in 2024.
Carvalho to move on? Klopp took a “we will see” stance on his future, but privately it appears as though Carvalho is weighing up a move away. Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool have received a permanent bid for their No. 28 “from a club abroad.” The club is as of yet unnamed, but there have been suggestions of interest from his native Portugal, with Porto among the sides linked. Meanwhile, Romano adds that “there are also many loan deal bids from Premier League clubs,” but Carvalho is “not accepting” a temporary switch. This guy reminds of William Carvalho, perennially the target of this or that club but never actually moving.
When we bought Carvalho, we said he looks like an outstanding player, but I’m not really sure where he fits, but there must be a plan for him. Either there was no plan, or the plan was abandoned. I wouldn’t blame him for wanting out. If he wasn’t getting a game with Diaz and Jota injured and Darwin in and out, what chance does he have when those players are fit?
There was an aimlessness about this season, I think largely due to the mass it drop off in key individuals’ performances. He’s partly a victim of that, I think.
I'm sure that initially there was a plan which included Carvalho , perhaps to succeed Bobby and also be able to cover midf and left wing when needed. However ,once our downward spiral began early in the season judging by his lack of appearances Fabio seems to have fallen out of favour with Klopp. With the team dropping points too often I think the manager was struggling to find a lineup that could turn things around and unfortunately Carvalho was unable to step up in a way that Jones eventually did. Jurgen rarely ever says anything negative re his players no matter how they perform and despite some talk about a loan I think the club would not hesitate to sell should a decent offer come in. And for Carvalho at his age he needs to play in order to develop and I think if he stayed he might become another Nat Phillips or Kelleher just spinning his wheels . He is a good player and should have solid career somewhere.
Don't forget we agreed to a deal for Carvalho in Jan 2022 and were ready to pull him away from Fulham - so I think we must have had a plan before last summer. or we simply saw him as a moneyball signing and figured we could still cash in if it didn't work out.
the Melo era is over at LFC. kinda sad. and when I think of all the time I put into making that banner!
he's a talented player so I hope we end up accommodating him. the Cody signing came out of the blue, so maybe it was "unplanned" -- and may have pushed hCarv out of the picture right now. one thing about him has always bugged me though. probably meaningless overall, and I can't recall the game, but he clashed with a goalie and went down in a heap, eyes closed, motionless for about 10-15 seconds. no foul was give but when he realized play had been stopped he jumped in a flash and got right in the goalie's face. not the behaviour Klopp encourages, more Atletico Madrid shit.
