I would mind less if the "after 90 minutes" was not so egregiously inflated these days. Seven minutes in Atlanta. Six minutes tonight. Those were largely unheard of in the Goonie days.

Apparently he bought down his suspension by offering Luchi a couple of his vape pens. :) Seems fair.

I hated it last game, but this game Yueill was on a yellow. I wouldn't take either of them off actually. Monteiro works so hard - he really hates to lose. After the FCD goal he crumpled to the ground - really devastated. The guy had worked his butt off all game on both sides of the ball to try to help us get the win. I don't think people realize how many times he goes into a full-on sprint at an opponent with the ball to try to dispossess or cause a hurried pass / turnover. His work rate is unbelievable.

    A very strange game.

The goals were strange in a sense that they were both looping headers by CBs. One for each team.

The ref was strange, like a sugar high kid.

The atmosphere in the stadium was strange. Really not sure how to react to the game.

The half time dragon dance was strange. My grandma used to take me to see the dragon dance and lion dance when I was kid. Never saw one so low energy.

The mess after the game was strange.

I just couldn't wait to get out of the stadium to escape the strangeness.

Vancouver II scored on a very similar play against Quakes II to win 1-0 - a looping header that just kind of perfectly rounds over the reach of the keeper. I thought at the time - I hope this isn't an omen for the 1st team. Well it was, unfortunately, but at least it didn't result in a loss.

Houston has a game in hand at 18 points. If they win that, they leapfrog EQ.

My apologies if I'm way of base. Only watched the highlights. It showed our second shot at goal in the 55th minute?!?
Is this correct, at home, two shots in almost an hour???
I figured who ever came after Almeyda was going to be much different tactically, but we went from chaotic ball to boring ball it seems. It's only been 14-15 games of Luchi ball but I'm not sure what his style of play is..
What's the game plan besides, shoot little, get lucky & score....and bunker? Why are we not being cutthroat at home? Parity in MLS doesn't allow you to go all out on the road I get it, but at home you won't go full throttle either??

After watching again - Daniel was standing on the six-yard line when the dagger play started. Given where the ball was and his potential knee issue that was stupid with men in the box. I still maintain clueless keeping - something we’ve become well acquainted with during the post-Busch era

Agree w/JJ re: the reversi Goonies. We’re now specializing in draws that feel like losses. I hope we’ve learned our Luchi’s lesson re: late subs…

It wasn’t quite as bad as it looks from the shooting stats but we definitely weren’t good enough on the attack. 0.4 xG for a home game is pretty terrible. But it was a lot of promising attacks and sometimes even cleverness around goal but the final ball wasn’t quite there and we wouldn’t get a shot off.

We were pressing pretty hard for an early goal but it didn’t happen and then we lost control of the game a little for the rest of the half. 2nd half was a little better and we got the goal but then went into bunker mode from about 65-70 minutes on.

I don’t have a problem with Luchi’s style of play; we’re organized, we don’t get caught
without numbers and we play out of the back - it’s not Domball, and we don’t play possession w/o purpose. I think we have a pretty good balance between direct vs. indirect attack. The only thing I don’t like is the bunkering too early vs. trying to hold the ball or press for an icing goal. I don’t think Yueill or Monteiro should come out - they’re too critical to our midfield.

This was a coaching loss imo (as many others said). How about we try and play the same way that left us winning?

Both goals in the game were pretty damn lucky.

I thought Monteiro got really tired in the second half... so many unforced errors. I would have preferred him get taken off than JY, even with the yellow.

I watched on TV and it's not clear why or with whom Judson was upset. Only thing I can assume was that it was related to the Dallas goal scorer shushing the crowd (finger over lips)? The announcers mentioned something about that being an anti-racist sentiment and Judson was defending the crowd?

I’m hoping we get some clarity on that because without some compelling reason, Judson comes off really poorly! Look - I was young once, and was sent off more than a couple of times so I know how it gets - but he’s a pro and has to be professional…

In theory, they are using the more accurate time keeping as employed in the Qatar World Cup. As such, that’s a good thing. The fact that it’s inconsistent from one game to another is BS.

And Luchi needs to realize that second half stoppage will be five to seven minutes most of the time. The fact that we bunker far too long is on Luchi.

We’re good enough to win more games, but we need better strategies and tactics.

    Go Quakesfans!!

In the post game comments on The Aftershock! (Which you should all watch and support) Luchi said that someone on the bench said something to Judson during the game, and that’s why he was pissed. I don’t know what it was or who said it.

Roots music festival going on this holiday weekend in Monterey. What if Mensah skipped a team meeting or something and went to a concert on Friday? Not saying that happened but we live in the age of social media so it’s pretty easy to get outed if you are famous and go anywhere.

That is our metaphorical "win bear" that we lost in the waning seconds of the match. Looks very sad.

Why not just use accurate time keeping, like, say, they do in American football?

I enjoy a corruptible sporting experience as much as the next guy, but maybe try not to be so obvious all the time. :)

    Our last 5:

The two ties were winnable games that we let get away from us.

And the last loss should have been a tie.

Someone might suggest that Luchi wait until stoppage to bunker. How many corners did LAFC have last week? It's not a recipe for a good ending.

Well, I was shocked when the 'park the bus' tactics didn't work this time. I mean, how many times can a tactic fail before it finally succeeds? It's gotta work eventually.

When it does finally work it's going to be so much fun to watch. That's really the most entertaining way to play soccer. Endless corners, deflections, and near misses. I love it when the goal keeper catches the ball and then falls on it to waste precious seconds. It's the best. Oh, and when the defenders pretend their legs need to be stretched and we watch in eager anticipation if they will ever get back up and finish the game. It just doesn't get better.

Some people have wanted to compare Luchi to Dom, but the difference between Luchi and Dom is that Luchi will sub in a 2nd d-mid to try to hold a 1-0 lead and Dom will sub in a 2nd d-mid to try to hold a 1-0 deficit.

Also, Ebobisse hasn't done much this year(so far) he's gone backwards in his playing I would say. The problem is that there's no one pushing him either. It's been mentioned before, I know, but now it's become a big problem. Richmond barely ever sees the field. Ebobisse plays every game, no rotation up top. Maybe he's a bit burned out? It's been a huge mistake not bringing in a forward the last two/ three windows to at least have another body with some experience to push him a bit. He knows he'll start every game regardless of his output. I hope in the summer we go shopping for a decent back up.
