IMO -- you gotta start building this team around Dejan. I would play Dejan and Judd up top in a 4-3-3/4-4-2 Boyd - Judd - Dejan Puig - Brugman - Delgado Aude - Caceres - Neal - Calegari I mean -- it doesn't matter much at this point. I feel like it's beyond line-ups / formations. Teams feel dispirited. But this gives you more flexibility IMO.
Never worth mentioning?! Calichman was head coach at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in D3 men's soccer for 13 years, where he led the team to 4 straight SCIAC championships from 2009-2012! Seriously, though, you probably would need to bring in an experienced coach from the outside, like we did with Sigi in 2017.
Firing Vanney is also complicated by the fact that none of us want Klein picking the next coach. Plus heaven forbid the new coach does well enough to save Klein’s job. It isn't Klein’s time to act - it is Dan’s time to act by cleaning house. Or better yet - Phil’s time to get rid of them all, including Enabler Dan.
Yeah, I haven't seen a minute of Toronto football this year. But it will be slim pickings in the summer window with the transfer ban in place.
With Dan being the CEO of all of AEG, it's likely that the only way to get rid of Dan would be if AEG sold.
Phil could fire Dan - Phil can fire anybody! I have a brilliant idea - AEG needs to hire currently retired Coach K to replace either Klein or Beckerman. K may not know soccer or hockey but I can promise you there won’t be any slackers under his watch!
Greg Vanney on if their needs to be a tactical change:“I don't think it's a formation thing, we've tried different formations," Vanney remarked. "We went through that stretch in the first 10 games when we looked at some different things from a tactical standpoint. You're just… pic.twitter.com/7ihxTm4Kv2— Alex Ruiz (@AlxRuiz15) May 28, 2023
This is like watching a soap opera. It can’t be real… Are they really going to try and ride out the season with this shit show? We have a lot of games left, including the tournament etc. They will be lucky to have 5k attendance by the end of summer.
I also wasn’t as critical of Aude as most of you. Yes his crosses sucked bad but nor that surprising from a player with one career assist (admittedly in only 32 appearances). And yes, Charlotte’s best attacks came down his side. But CLT was overloading that side and it wasn’t just Aude working hard to limit those coordinated attacks. But my main defense of Aude and the rest of our D is that Charlotte only got off maybe 1 dangerous shot before Edwards came in. Our entire starting back line was good about bending but not breaking. And unlike Edwards , Aude wasn’t repeatedly getting caught out of position and having to chase attackers from behind. It is surprising though how little experience Aude has. Only 17 reg season career starts (25 appearances) before coming to us!
Not a cash grab, CCL spot at stake. EDIT: it is a cash grab who am I kidding, but there is something of value in that CCL spot. EDITx2: I was excited about it, and I’m now bummed out because we suck so bad.
This is the part that bewilders me. AEG is running their investment into the ground. I want to go back to doing analytics y’all. nothing to say about the game. Watched it all. Because I want to love this team. It’s hard. Even at their WORST I knew the Niners ownership would finally fix things. If not for sentiment then for one of the biggest brands in football. The Galaxy’s treatment hurts me on so many levels.
If there is reason for optimism, this is one case where MLS being a single entity could be helpful. The league, and all of its other team owners, lose money if the Galaxy aren't bringing in as many fans and if the brand is harmed (the Galaxy "brand" is owned by MLS, LLC and all of its owners, not by AEG specifically). I'm not saying the league would intervene on a timeline that would satisfy the fans, but at some point they (and probably "they" would be Garber or other owners or both) would talk to Anshutz and try to get him to fix things if it kept going downhill.
great minds and all that, Ive been thinking that for a few weeks now, the galaxy are now grouped with the "LA" teams that are considered second class along with the clippers, angels, chargers and ducks (adding that last one to cover all major sports) I've been looking at a lot of what LAFC is doing, they've leaned hard into the LA vibe. I live close to DTLA compared to Carson and they have a wealth of gatherings near me as well as other activities for their supporters besides the games, they also seem to and I know that this will comes as a shock to some have an amicable relationship with their fanbase. I did go to the galaxy site to look for similar type of events and activities and it was barer than the top of my head and I could have sworn that the galaxy was just as active in the community as lafc but I guess I was mistaken, or it has dropped off as uncle phil got older and less involved. I also recently found out that besides Nomar being an owner two of my favorite groups growing up are lafc supporters, it was quite a shock to realize the galaxy are becoming an afterthought when it comes to "LA" sports. Hav77 is right its just sad
We understand Dawdler. And believe me —we will be secretly jealous as we watch you cheering your new winning team on.
I'm not quite there Yet! still trying to make this relationship work but its tough when one side keeps messing with my emotions and is unwilling to address my needs and wants and only cares about themselves and what they get out of the relationship I do know this if Trickhog and a few posters I enjoy and respect pull the plug, I'm out of here
I just finished the game, Vanney can say all he wants the tactics don't matter, it's as obvious as it was two months ago that we don't have any capable winger in this roster. Therefore, it's strange to keep playing a 4-3-3 no matter what. I'll need to dig a little bit but IIRC, we played a 3-5-2 in a 2-0 win against Austin and it was one of the best game of the season. Then, while still playing with two strikers, Vanney suddenly changed the formation for the next four or five games, making halftime subs every match because the formation didn't work but he barely played another 3-5-2 (or often too late in a game). Sometimes I wonder if Vanney, who has been so reluctant to play with to strikers, has not voluntarily buried this 3-5-2.
So it's not just the cool logo after all then? Darn. J/k, I think what you described confirms what we've known about the failings of the Galaxy and also what we foresaw in out marketing thread. Still sad to see in real life though. Also agree, and definitely tough pill to swallow, that it's time to accept the Galaxy have become the Clippers, Chargers, USC , Ducks, and Angels of LA. If not for the group here, the last several years would have been even tougher. And yes, if the lot of you moved on to a different team and there's no light at the end of the tunnel, I'd move on as well. At this point, it's almost like my interest in the team is just morbid curiosity in how it all ends...
That’s really what I had in mind. This is Phil Anschutz, not the Chivas owner. Some other long-time billionaire club owner would talk with him.
the logo is kinda cool and I've even seen lafc Dodger hats, around town and at Dodger stadium and nothing really galaxy related. someone in other threads have mentioned how the galaxy could promote at other aeg events but they don't, besides having galaxy night at Kings games and they rely on adam freaking sandler to wear a galaxy shirt from time to time to promote their brand. as far as the UCLA/USC thing I was tempted to put one in that category but UCLA is known for basketball and mediocre football and USC is known for football and a mediocre basketball team so its a wash
