Cremaschi did quite well in other parts of the game.

Ruiz did well and poorly. Got a goal and an assist, then got a red card. He actually should have gotten a red card sooner but didn’t because of a case of mistaken identity that VAR never corrected. Then he had another foul and got his 2nd yellow.

Yea, that was definitely uncalled for by @butters59 . Cremaschi had his moments. He thinks very fast and has a creative touch repertoire to get the ball to the next station at least. And he presses the hell out of the opponent. He might be a hybrid between Wes & Brenden.

But no, he wasn't, and isn't as good of a prospect as Buck. I don't know who ever said he was. We don't have to go out of our way to discredit one of our own to prop up another. We can say independently it's nice to have 2 more legit prospects, to different degrees, in the stable, to add to our ranks.

He played like a kid in this game, was involved in poor defending on the real goal as well. It's not related to him as a prospect, might eventually turn out to be a better player than Buck, but for now one is unbelievably mature for his age both physically and mentally, the other isn't.

His defending is inconsistent, but his offense is quite good. Not to say his defending is inconsistent because he’s lazy (quite the opposite), he needs more experience.

I’m any case I’ll always take a young HG player getting minutes in MLS for the potential he turns good later on even if he has some poor moments along the way. Remember how much we criticized Slonina last season who put together in the 2nd half of the season.

04 Cody Baker signed to first team

    https://www.sounderatheart.com/2023/5/16/23724669/cody-baker-signs-homegrown-player-contract
[quoteWhen Baker first started playing with the academy he was a centerback but then moved to right back around the time he signed his first professional contract with Tacoma Defiance in 2021.

Last year, he got his first experience as a left back, which proved to be a rather significant development.[/quote]

He played 120 minutes in a USOC game against San Diego, had an assist.
He came in as a sub against SKC
Started in USOC against LA Galaxy
Made his first MLS Start against Houston and had a pretty solid game. 73/80 passing. Had some solid defensive plays even before Houston went down to 10 then 9 players. Had a nice pass down the line to Morris at one point breaking open the Houston defense.

    Is he right footed?

Don't know, I suspect he is right footed.
But I remember a couple well weighted through balls I believe he made with his left foot that put his winger into open space. I remember one against SD Loyal and the one to Morris against Houston.

He seems to combine well enough with this teammates in the short game too.

Looks like Nouhou is back to full training. Sounders do have a game tomorrow, 5/17, and Nouhou may not be ready for a start just yet. But we shall see if Baker can get another start before Nouhou takes back over.

How has he never been called to a U.S. Youth camp before? I swear, our federation has the weirdest scouts. He’s significantly better than both Obed Vargas and Owen Wolff

That goal was insane. He plays like he’s 5-8yrs older than he is. He doesn’t panic or let nerves get the better of him like a lot of young players do.

He had a few giveaways later in the game that are untypical for him but yea I’m hoping he’s sold after the season ends because he deserves it.

The only thing that isn’t clear is what his best position is.

Forgot to add, Perez also got a goal. Good example if he keeps it up to motivate St Louis to invest in their academy even if Perez doesn’t pan out or does but doesn’t choose the US.

Zac MacMath subbed off at halftime with a concussion. '05 Gavin Beavers replaced him and looks likely to get a run as the first-choice keeper for RSL.

Beavers didn't concede in 45 minutes, though he didn't have any particularly tough saves to make.

Cody Baker with another solid start for Seattle at left back.

Baker should be getting a few more minutes with the congested schedule as Nouhou starts to be worked back into the lineup after his illness.

I would say he has firmly supplanted Rowe as the backup LB. He needs to be tested more defensively but so far I am liking what he brings to the Sounders as a total package.

I dont believe thats true. Buck had comments about not being selected but i havent seen anything indicating a blocked call up.

Do you have an opinion about Buck relative to Obed and wolff?

Not that I’ve seen all of his performances but I really like Ian Fray’s style of play. I think it could translate to a higher level. Good athlete, good on the ball, comfortable in multiple positions.

Miami is an interesting case. Last year they had less depth because they had a lower cap as punishment for roster violations. This season they still have less depth and it seems like the narrative is that the FO has been trying to keep room for Messi and Busquets. But whatever it is, Miami is bad and the academy players are getting a shot to shine.

I’m glad they are. Every team that has these types of situations opens the door to 1-2 YNT players getting minutes.

Buck with a rare DNP but he’s been playing a lot lately.

Gavin Beavers is taking advantage of his opportunity to start with MacMath injured. Got outstanding reviews for his game in goal for RSL.

    Here's some video proof:

We got some keepers coming thru the pipeline. Can again argue that it's our strongest position, in terms of prospects. Some may consider that a negative thing, but we needed it after the pool had dried up.

If Beavers becomes a future star of a goalie for the US, then my only complaint will be figuring out if it’s Slonina or Beavers whose starting in net.

Cody Baker was solid against Portland. This time playing as a right back as Alex Roldan was suspended for the game.

He showed good intensity and fight.

If the Sounders didn't have one of the best defensive players in the league in Nouhou I would be perfectly fine starting Baker on the left. He may not be a difference maker but I like his grit.

He may have won the backup role for both LB and RB at this point.

I haven’t watched him play other than highlights. Does he have the athleticism to play Champions League football?
