Honestly even though we could use him on the field, if there is still a chance he can still get called up to the U-20 team I would rather prioritize him going there instead of coming back to the Quakes lineup. I know him back would be hugely beneficial I dont know why but I hope he goes to Argentina.
Yes, more than likely a soccer player pulls something playing soccer, don't need to go searching elsewhere for a reason.
Just kidding, Niko. In 1972, Flyers goalie Bruce Gamble had a fucking heart attack in the first period, shrugged it off, stayed in the game, and beat the Canucks 3-1. So maybe play through your next injury too, buttercup. pic.twitter.com/bqO5Vfxako— Super 70s Sports (@Super70sSports) April 27, 2023
Bummer for Niko but no surprise given he hasn't played yet this season... Per Sources, Niko Tsakiris will not be going to the U-20 World Cup in Argentina alongside Cade Cowell. Niko is currently recovering from an injury that has sidelined him the whole season so far. OTOH speaking as a Quakes fan and not as a nats fan, I don’t mind that Niko’s staying and Cade’s going
It's a smaller roster than the senior world cup, so everyone needs to be ready to go. Still, it was really good to see him on the bench last weekend.
Yes, it was nice to see him, and while it would be great to have him on the U20 roster, I would rather have him getting healthy and playing for the Quakes.

The second tweet is hilarious.... "Finding some more information on this" What information is there left to "find" when US Soccer has already announced that Tsakiris is on the roster? "things could have changed in two days." Oh they COULD HAVE?
Thats the thing because there is no way 2 days changed that because I think they are already in Argentina. And one of those "updates" the dude is still on the team Also as much as I said I wanted Niko on the squad I did not expect him to get called up
Niko's dad is still on the coaching staff for the U20s right? ok. Per Sources, Niko Tsakiris was a late addition to the roster. Almost going into the #LAFC match was a healthy positive sign for Tsakiris. Niko has had a couple of healthy practices with the Quakes this week and should be joining the team in Buenos Aires soon. Dammit, Renkeled again. Renkel me once, shame on Renkel. Renkel me twice, three times, four times, shame on me.
Impressive from Tsakiris who has pretty much been out all season with an injury, and is playing up a cycle (eligible for the next U-20s) THE @USYNT DOUBLES ITS LEAD! 🇺🇸💪 pic.twitter.com/OTb4C7nxsy— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) May 26, 2023
4 goals in 7 appearances for Niko with the U20s, I would love to see him get some starts paired with McGlynn. Hopefully we don't have to wait an eternity to see a Niko, Yueill, Gruezo Quakes midfield. I think Montiero and his DP status are expendable. Honestly Yueill, is more threatening as an 8 than Monteiro right now...and if we traded Monteiro we potentially could bring in another quality attacker...just not getting enough attacking performance from Montiero to justify taking up a DP slot....with Niko waiting in the wings...let him develop with real game minutes...a no brainer move for me.
For the rest of 2023 let Tsakiris back up both Monteiro and Yueill, he should be the second on the depth chart at both spots and get any starts that either one doesn't. If Monteiro is gone at the end of the year, Tsakiris can take over the starting spot, and if Cowell is sold, the Monteiro DP spot can go to the Cowell replacement winger.
I don't know about taking Monteiro's option next year, but regardless we should keep in mind that it's not good enough just to have enough good players to cover the starting 11. That's something we're not used to, but we should start thinking about it as we try to become an actual bona fide competitive MLS team. I think Yueill is playing better than Monteiro this year, but Monteiro hasn't been bad either. So the question is do you still want to use a cheapo buy-downable DP spot for him. My impression is that Monteiro would not take too kindly to being "platooned". He doesn't like to come out of games, ever, it seems. So he may not be a great candidate as a rotation guy.
One of his youth coaches told me Niko is living with his grandparents and has recently received his Portuguese passport. He will probably be sold this summer , after the U-20 WC tournament.
The Portuguese passport doesn't matter at this point. A Euro passport allows guys to sign in Europe at age 16 (eg Pulisic), without it they have to wait until they're 18. Tsakiris is only 17 right now but his birthday is June 19, so he will be 18 by the earliest time he could be sold (this summer transfer window).
It could still make a big difference in Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, etc because of registration rules.
I hope not. He's pretty special. I'd like see way more of him in games. At least a full season starting, then sell him.
It would suck to see him go so soon but it is good for him if it is the right team and also helps get the ball rolling with the produce and sell objective
