Bournemouth crushed Everton at home at 3-0 in league play, and they crushed them 4-1 in the Carabao Cup, so it is not completely impossible that Bournemouth would win away. There is still some hope.
The Leeds fans are furiously rewriting history to preserve Bielsa’s sainthood. Apparently all the bad choices made during his tenure were imposed on him by the board and director of football; all the good ones were his.
it is officially 10 points. and on top of that Juve are getting thrashed by Empoli 3 - 0 today. Juve will not be playing CL next year.
I doubt McKennie's future is with Juve anyway. Hopefully he lands somewhere where he actually plays. I think it's always been a priority for him.
I clearly made a pretty poor assumption... after this, Juve plays Milan and then Udinese. Assuming Roma wins (I know I know...), Juve will be 2 points outside of the Conference League spot. They're definitely not getting CL, but they might miss out on continental competition entirely.
https://fansided.com/2023/05/22/usmnt-news-weston-mckennie-christian-pulisic-zack-steffen/ However, McKennie will not stay with the club, even if they survive relegation. According to JuveFCDotCom “Italian sources have confirmed Weston McKennie will return to Juventus this summer. It’s over between him and Leeds. “Wes will discuss his future with the Juve management after returning from NT (National team) duty in the summer. His agent has received interest from Brighton, Newcastle, West Ham & Aston Villa. He’s expected to return to the Premier League but a change in Juve’s coach could open the door for Wes to stay.”
Newcastle doing their part to ***** over Leeds. Of course, Leeds has no one else to blame. Now they need to win next week AND need Everton to lose and LC to not win. They look to be done and dusted.
West Ham and Bournemouth have nothing to play for. Tottenham must win to have a chance to go to the Conference. Although who cares about the Conference anyway?
It's a trophy though, something Spurs haven't won in almost 20 years, and a somewhat winable one... West Ham are in the final this year ffs.... Spurs may see it as a chance to get something finally
This. It's a European final. Fans don't care if it's Conference or CL. Neither do players, nor staff frankly. Everyone on West Ham will be playing for a spot in the XI for that final. If they win it will be their first trophy in a generation and first European trophy in 3 or 4 generations. It's a very big deal to the club.
Anything can happen, but rest assured, Leeds are screwed. They will not even beat Tottenham, even if Leeds somehow go up 2-0 in the first half. We have seen that movie before
Not sorry at all to see Leeds go down. Adams will be ok, McKennie is just a loanee, and Aaronson could use a time in the Championship. Maybe that's his level, after all.
Leeds fans are the most delusionally aggressive group of PL fans I’ve ever interacted with. And that’s saying something. Relegation really couldn’t happen to a nicer group (sarcasm). our boys will be fine. Weston and Adams should get moves, and Aaronson could benefit from a year in the championship at this point.
Any coach, sporting director or Front Office with half a brain. It's eminently winnable for a Top 5 league regular, and you can fill/nearly-fill the stadium while giving the rotators and depth players some starts against the minnows in the early rounds. As for the knockout rounds, have a look at the lineups the big clubs put out. Jose Mourino took it very seriously last season and gave Roma their first trophy of any kind in 15 years as well as a place in the EL group stages, consolidating his position at the club and giving him some bargaining power with the Front Office. This season, they're in the EL final.
They were fun to watch right up until after they got their goal. It seems like Leeds players believe in themselves when each game starts but once they get a lead it’s like they’re already sitting on the beach. This has happened a number of times throughout the season which isn’t helped by their poor defensive line. I hope this experience of getting relegated has a positive effect on Wes rather than negative.
This is so funny, and totally in line with the BS I sometimes hear on their top fan podcast "The Square Ball," which I sometimes still listen to, for reasons unbeknownst to me (boredom, I guess). Bielsa was getting this club relegated last season, everyone knew it. His initial approach and rise to the Prem was great, but his policy of playing only a core of 10 players and keeping the squad small resulted in injuries and exhaustion; a recipe that, while successful at times, had them destined for relegation. But Leeds fans love to leave that info out in their historical assessments. The sooner they get over the Bielsa-flash-in-a-pan worship, the club can move forward; but they are stuck in that mindset and no conversation can be had without them mentioning his name. That said, the board does deserve plenty of blame. It is quite clear that they panicked after firing Marsch and everything snowballed from there. Marsch was always going to get the sack sooner rather than later, so I contend that they should have pulled the trigger sooner and should have already had a coach lined up. And the board needed to make good decisions, and needed someone to replace Bamford (a league 1 level striker now), and they chose Rutter, who is a total flop and turns out he is not an actual #9, but a winger who was not quite ready for his 30million price tag
I hate myself for tuning in for this today. I'd somehow misread Leicester's schedule earlier in the week and thought their last game was against tougher opposition. I'm only now realizing that they're playing a West Ham side with nothing to play for, just like Everton are playing a Bournemouth side with nothing to play for. (Tottenham are technically playing for a spot in next season's Conference League, though there are some who think they would deliberately lose this match to avoid playing in that competition.) So Leeds have to beat Tottenham AND Everton have to lose to Bournemouth AND Leicester can't beat West Ham, if Leeds doesn't want this to come down to GD (where they are essentially screwed).
Be prepared to hate yourself even more. After just 2 - that's right, two - minutes Harry Kane puts Spurs ahead. One look at the defending on that goal tells you that they've given up
Some of us said at the beginning of the season that Leeds will go where their defense will take them.
What defence??? A disastrous start for Leeds! 😱Harry Kane opens the scoring for Spurs inside three minutes after a great team move from the visiting side 🎯 pic.twitter.com/CxK8uuwkkD— Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) May 28, 2023
Two minutes gone in the second half and . . . Spurs score again. You can stick your fork in now. This Turkey is done.
Where to next for Weston? I wanna see him in La Liga. That'd make him the first Yank to feature in four of the top 5 European leagues.
