Maloney went the distance in a 1-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld (Bello an unused sub). High ratings - including 8/9 on aerial duels. Sitting in the promotion playoff spot...

He's playing in a double pivot DM spot in a 4-2-3-1, on the left. If they can win, they'd assert themselves as part of the title race, as the match is against first place Darmstadt.

Don't look now, but an 89th minute goal wins it for Heidenheim and places them firmly in a three-team race for the top three spots (top two automatic promotion, third place playoff) with 16th in the Bundesliga). He's a 23 year-old physical 6, lock starter for a promotion candidate in the 2.Bundesliga, and put on a physical show today -

Unlike some other dual Nats we track, he actually wants to play for the US (probably as he has correctly estimated that Germany is unlikely to call). Until this year, he hadn't put up consistent results beyond the Dortmund reserves - a handful of Bundesliga minutes with Dortmund, etc. Shouldn't be that far off of the radar - I think he's the best uncapped American d-mid playing in Europe.

Maloney went the 90 in the 5:2 win over Karlsruhe. Didn’t see his name in the game report. Heidenheim is at the top of the table for now.

Came out late as his team gave up 2 goals in stoppage time to share the points 2-2:

Tragic loss there, they miss a penalty and then concede 2 goals in stoppage time for a tie.

Hopefully I’m not the one to jinx it, but Heidenheim are in 2nd which is guaranteed promotion to the Bundesliga. He would only be 24, feels like that could make him pretty relevant to the national team if that happened.

Terrible statistical day personally, but a 3-0 win as the club moves into the second place automatic promotion spot, so no one probably cares that much in the short term.

going from Tyler Adams to Lennard Maloney as a team’s No. 6 means everything changes. They couldn’t be more different.

from Heidenheim’s standpoint, I doubt Maloney remains the starter if they go up.

Maloney went the distance today in a 1-0 win against Sandhausen. 10/11 on accurate long balls, 5/5 on ground duels - sounds solid. Importantly, they are in the automatic promotion spots with one to play and control their own destiny against lowly Jahn Regensburg. One of the best under the radar YA stories this grim year.

    Came off in the 55th.

They were trailing 2-1 going into added time and ended up winning 3-2 after 105 minutes.

Combined with Darmstadt's 4-0 loss to Greuther Furth, Hedenheim is not only promoted, but win the 2.Bundesliga title.

They were so stunned by the accomplishment that this is the only thing they've posted since the game ended:

Absolutely craziness in the 2nd Bundesliga today! It never fails in the entertainment and drama. Best second division in the world, IMO.

Congrats to Maloney! Another Yank in the BL.
