That seemed very odd. Like, why even go to all that trouble if you're just going to blatantly disregard what's on the screen in front of you. And if it was onside, why use a camera angle that was so deceiving to the viewer? Either a referee or production flop, but either way... This West Ham team is what the aspirational version of Leeds would've been this year. Wes mixed it up fairly well. Why his long throw has taken so long to be exploited is beyond me. You could even see in the stands after one, fans saying to each other what a good weapon it is. But vs Rice he's always going to come second best. That guy is easily all-world and playing in his final home game after some incredible years in the team. Their defenders were Italian, French, Czech, and I think Brazilian internationals. Emerson might've gotten a cup of coffee with the Selecao if memory serves. Anyway, Leeds were always going to lose this one and now their misfit parts can go adrift again, to find new homes. If both Rice and Adams end up at Arsenal, I'd be delighted. And McK on Brighton would be delightful. Aaronson looks very likely to get lost in the shuffle and I don't know if anyone would rate his prospects in the Championship either. His road looks decidedly less bright.
Agree with all of this, especially the bolded. Man oh man, that great start to the season - topped by a dominating win against Chelsea - now seems like something we collectively hallucinated!
25 - No side has lost more points from leading positions in the Premier League this season than Leeds (25, level with Nottingham Forest). Indeed, the Whites have won just two of the last nine league matches in which they have opened the scoring (D4 L3). Brink. pic.twitter.com/u5mM8OTTX2— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) May 21, 2023
Just not good enough. a consistent thread against Leeds is a weak mental state against the break on D, poor clinical finishing in the final third, and some players that are just not EPL quality. You can only be so fit and have positive morale to a certain level. Relying on aging Bamford and that back four is simply not good enough to stay in the top flight.
Yes, but I’ve already got Leeds relegated with this loss. So for me, doesn’t matter if they lose 2-1 or 3-1 because no way every single result falls in favor of Leeds on the final day. The chances of that are…one in a million? (Feels like it) Oh well Leeds, it was nice knowing ya! Buh-bye.
Every result? It’s Everton lose and Leeds win right? Today I felt like they didn’t deserve anything after the first 15 minutes or so. I just think it was too much Bamford and too many keeper errors over the season and they didn’t have the belief or fight left here at the end. Different striker and keeper combo and they are low 40s…but they spent money and didn’t find the right pieces. They could use a retooling in the championship. Their subs really had no impact and their starters faded in and out today. Didn’t look like a team with the belief and or quality to do the job.
📋 Your #LUFC Starting XI... pic.twitter.com/CFvPhYk0Ql— Leeds United (@LUFC) May 28, 2023 Wes starts, Aaronson on the bench, and literally no Bamford whatsoever...
Big "I'm just as good as Pep" Sam sets his team up to play for a draw, and then concedes in the first 2 minutes. Actually amazing.
The good news is they're creating opportunities. Unfortunately, when they're giving up a goal two minutes in, I doubt even two goals will be enough today.
That is a championship back line that belongs in the championship. And most of the 11 are championship level. Thus, they are headed to that league.... If Bamford could score penalties and tap ins, things may be different. And If Sam had come in sooner and put Wes up in the attack and on throw in duty sooner, they may have an extra point or two in their pocket (not that Wes has been a world beater in this squad).
under 15 minutes in, and Leeds have let in 1 goal and gotten 2 yellows. No matter the final score, I think 2 things will be true: 1. This will be Leeds' funniest game of the season 2. Leeds will not be in the PL next year.
Wes still working hard tho. Nice steal in midfield and a nifty backheel down the line but this Leeds side got no swing. Evertyhing peters out into ineffective discord, like a mediocre jam band who drank too much before the gig.
Leeds coming close twice in the last 10... the only wild card here is how inept Spurs can become at any moment... The guys in white are pushing hard tho, so they should get hit by Kane on the counter soon.
Wes wins a ball against tow defenders deep right, beats them both, overhits his centering pass and Leed survive the ensuing counter.
Wes bad pass leads to almost chance for Spurs. The fans hate his passing, and I agree that it needs improvement at this level. He has a few nice passes here and there thought
I just realized, Wes is battling Kulesveski, and they were friends at Juventus and linked up well together. Sort of an awkward match for pals...
LCFC score. Too much has to happen for Leeds to stay up. As we suspected, I think they are royally screwed (And deservedly so, if we are honest)
