New England should feel lucky. If we figure out defending corners there’s no way we don’t win this game.
Clearly we need to improve corner defense, but we end up in that situation (over and over) because we stop playing forward...we must stop doing that.
I am of two minds on the Fire in this match. I felt good after watching it. It had stretches of good team play, individual moments of excellence, returning/young players who showed potential and a reasonably good result-a tie on the road while resting key players. Then a dark shadow appeared. The dark shadow was the reoccurrence of two bad old habits- losing a 2 goal lead and lousy defense on corners. Do you think I have a split personality?
Exactly. I don’t think we’re giving up like before. If we fix marking on corner kicks we are in good shape.
I'm sure there is more to it, but after dominantly holding the 2 goal lead for 15min, we let up ~36th min, and were on our heels from then on.
Not sure exactly sure what the graph plots, but also not sure it actually proves your point. It likely proves NER was more effective later in the match, not that the Fire let up. It could mean the Fire were unable to overcome the momentum generated by the first goal, not that their approach to play changed
So, ahhh, lemme get this straight. Some of us are aggrevated that we gave up a lead (again) late in a match. We went on the road, to the team in 3rd spot in the conference, with a modified/rotated lineup against a team that has given up 14 goals in the previous 13 matches... 1) Do not be satisfied with the outcome, 2) Be pissed that Matt Reis' ma can sleep well tonight. 3) This Fire squad, with this season so far, tied That Team on the road while in the midst of our run to a 5th U.S. Open Cup. We're trending in the right direction folks.
We are trending in the right direction, but it still is annoying to give up a lead (twice), once again.
I am all for clearing the ball out of danger but there are times in the last 15 minutes of a match where it's just panic clears and there's absolutely no one looking to connect passes and maintain possession and the clearances go right to the opposing teams center backs to be recycled for yet another attack. It needs to stop. I did not see it to the same degree last night as in the past but it was definitely happening in the final stretch of the game including the equalizer.
Could CJ Brown have a hand in this? He seems to be a sacred cow among Fire fans, but he is involved in training this team.
