Definitely. Can't imagine a worse way to lose it. Monday morning I'll be focused on the transfer window and next season. If we had lose the league in the same fashion as Dortmund, I'd be waking up at 3am years from now remembering a corner we conceded from that should have been a goal kick.
Reminds me of the Croatian goalkeeper in 2018. He got injured I think in the hamstring in the quarterfinal against Russia, but he managed to survive the match and the penalty shootout + the semifinal, but by the time he got to the final, he was beat... and conceded all goals to his injured side... 5-4, okay Hovrath, this is your chance...
Congratulations, Luton Town. Be seeing you at the old girl. And… Another Yank keeper comes to the Prem.
So, Luton Town gets to host Premiership footie, eh? To think the likes of Leicester and Leeds might be watching those from the second tier.
What's really tough is that I'm pretty sure, he came on for the guy who scored Coventry's goal but came off in tears injury... not a happy ending for either..
Praying that they don’t have to do some silly ground share with Watford. And that they can do the necessary repairs in time for August/September, or that the EPL will cut them some slack and let them fix things as they go. Is there anything other than VAR cameras that’s TRULY critical for day one?
Luton Town have just won the Championship play-off final. This is the entrance to our stadium. Incredible to think this ground will be in the Premier League next season 🤯 pic.twitter.com/QPV3ocSYMN— Luton Town FC (@LutonTown) May 27, 2023
Dabo, who missed the PK, came on for Cuffy, not Hamer, who scored. So at least it wasn't that much bad karma.
I absolutely love that! Highbury used to have an entrance to northwest corner that was a little similar.
Mainz had nothing to play for which is the most shocking bit. I'll even go ahead and say Bayer Neverkusen atleast lost to respectable teams in Shalke and Real Madrid to not get a trophy. Added that they were in three competitions for a team that did not have the best of depth. BvB literally shat the bed. Mainz were being pulverised in the last 4 games before too.
Also no sympathy for Reus, as romantic as it would have been. The obsession to win with your childhood club once again shows it doesn't pan out that way. Ask Totti, Shearer and Le Tissier.
At least Shearer got one though. He could chase the dream at his childhood club knowing if he failed he would still have one to his name.
I don’t think it was a bottle job really 5 games to go Honigstein reviewed the run in and both teams had tricky games. the main thing here is neither BVB or Bayern are good hence all the dropped points including bayern doing their best to bottle the league from a 1-0 lead. BVB for their part had a terrible start to the season. I recall honigsteins reporting from their winter break camp in Spain was how and earth could they fix the hot mess. so the story here was two quite poor teams doing their best to blow the title It’s a miracle BVB were even in the mix and the tragedy of it is Bayern won’t be so crap next season.
Jitty, What are your overall thoughts on the state of German football? I'm quite underwhelmed with it, but that is as a casual observer.
Since I don't have Peacock I'll be watching the myriad of relegation battles this morning. Not that I'm wishing any fan base anguish but as a neutral I hope the drama goes down to the wire. Will make for a droll morning if Everton just rolls.
Paraphrasing what someone said above: Dortmund had one game at home, against a midtable team, for all the marbles, and all they had to do was not lose, and they would be champions. Edit: Sorry I shoulda said they had to win. I was a little confused by all the final day calculus. So that perhaps tempers the criticism a bit, but... I don’t pretend to follow that league, but isn’t it hard not to interpret that as some level of shitting the bed?
Actually, they didn't lose, they drew 2-2... they had to win that game to win the title which they didn't do....
