I don't see how the CPL can survive on 3.7k attendances.

CSB and they aren't operating at the same scale as MLS. If we don't compare the 2 leagues, it becomes easier to see how it's done.

I was gobsmacked when I worked out that Halifax is closer to Manchester UK than Victoria BC.

How is this thing supposed to work long-term on average attendances of 3,782?

Agreed. Need more teams in each half of country.
What are peoples thoughts if the 3 MLS Canadian teams were to join CPL, does that make the league, attendances etc better?

I'm saying this as an outsider but I think Montreal would be OK as they were reasonably successful in USL. I think Toronto likes to think of itself as a big city with New York, Chicago and L.A. so I don't think their fans would react well. If the Whitecaps joined then wouldn't that put Vancouver FC out of picture for no net gain?

How about this, with teams playing each other 4 times plus some inter-league play?

    West
Pacific, Vancouver FC (Langley), Cavalry, Valour,
ADD 2 of Regina, Edmonton or Saskatoon

    East
    Ottawa, York, Forge, Halifax, York
    ADD Quebec

If you can get to 18 you could have 3 conferences.

It would definitely improve the league and attendances. CPL games are only averaging 3k-6k per game. Adding the three MLS clubs would be a huge boost on pretty much every level.

The problem is, it would screw over the three MLS teams and Canadian soccer as a whole. If you look at the Canadian YNT, pretty much all of the domestic players come from TFC’s, Montreal’s, and Vancouver’s academies. Remove those clubs from MLS and their revenue will tank and, after slashing the first team’s payroll, the academies will be the next on the chopping block.

The Whitecaps FO has messed things up so badly that there are more than enough former Whitecaps fans to support Vancouver FC. Heck, rebrand to remove the Vancouver name and make it Surrey/Langley specific and it’d be just fine.

Vancouver FC's attendances seem to be hovering in the low to mid 2,000s. They got 6,177 for their opener. Since then they've had one attendance over 3,000.

Welcome to CPL? Low 2k is second worse in the league, for sure, but CPL attendance is pretty dismal for an alleged D1 league. If the 3 MLS clubs are forced into CPL, that immediately eliminates the competition and puts the CPL teams on par with the former MLS clubs.. *shrug* Having a cross town rival could be beneficial..

Another thing to consider is that within the next decade or so, Surrey will be the largest city in BC. At some point they are going to want to act like a major city instead of a Vancouver suburb. So they may be interested in actually building a stadium for Vancouver FC and calling it Surrey FC.
