Yes, SportsCenter does love soccer!! Ronaldo's assist yesturday was ranked #4 in the top 10 plays this morning!! The guy says, "I love it when soccer makes SportCenter." OMG!!!
They are sending a good message to the average American sports fan. That is, that soccer does not go into hibernation for four years. Yes it is too bad they don't showcase MLS, but half a loaf is better than none.
It's a good way for the media to ignore MLS. Now soccer fans won't be able to say that they ignore soccer while they throw out some stuff that happen in another country and helps American soccer in no way. I'd rather see some more MLS highlights instead which would help build better image for soccer in this country. Actually, most of the average American sports fans I've talked to don't think soccer as a whole goes into hibernation for four years. They know things (domestic leagues etc.) besides WC are happening in other countries. What most of them don't know is that US has a pro soccer league. So, to them, soccer in THIS country goes into hibernation and showing highlights from another country does not change that.
Re: Re: SportsCenter loves soccer!! Yes, my post was supposed to be sarcastic. That's why I put the smiley at the end. Though I did think it was cool that Ronaldo's assist, not goal was ranked #4. [sarcasm] BTW... PTI is also pro-soccer! The topic was about how boring the World Series are this year, and the one guy goes, I like low scoring baseball games, though not like soccer low scoring, their halves are like novelas. It wasn't what he said exactly, but something like that. ESPN now thinks soccer isn't boring!! Two pro-soccer comments in one week!! [/sarcasm]
Re: Re: Re: SportsCenter loves soccer!! I completely agree w/ Kornheiser when he lays into the American soccer poets.
That's impossible. UEFA mandates that every team plays 3 games on Tuesday and 3 on Wednesday. In other words, 3 out of 6 RM games are not shown in the USA. Every Real Madrid game has been on ESPN Intl. and TSN, though.
