FYI - Jason Bateman, exec producers Ron Howard & Brian Grazer and head writer Mitchell Hurwitz are all supposed to be on Charlie Rose (PBS) tonight. http://www.charlierose.com/
Here's some news if you didn't already know. AD was up for a few different awards at SAG. Bateman lost the Best Actor in a Comedy Series to friggin' Tony Shaloub in Monk. And the AD cast lost Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series once again to a show that is not a comedy: Desperate Housewives. Oh and even though we all already know that Fox sucks donkey balls in regards to their pushing/advertising of the show Sunday night proved it even more. A multi-Emmy winning show that did not have one advertisement for it during the Super Bowl from its own network.
Zach Braff is shooting a small role for a future episode: http://gardenstate.typepad.com/zach_braffs_garden_state_/2005/02/smile.html By the time they pull the plug on this show, AD will end up as the greatest collection of B-list cameos, ever.
AD reminds me so much of Undeclared (and nearly followed the same fate) with the cameos (among other things.) I remember Ferrell, Stiller, and Sandler all appearing on the show, and like AD, having fairly minor roles (though Sandler's role was larger than the other two.) I don't think any cameo will top Carl Weathers' run during the first season.
http://www.fox.com/arresteddev/ New dalies for sunday's show. So we have Gervais, Braff, Stiller, Short, probably a return of Carl Weathers, and JLD to look out for.
The rule of thumb at Fox is that the worst the show is, the more advertisement it will get from the network (see "The Simple Life" as an example). Of course, The Simpsons can be considered exempt from this early on, but the quality of the show is starting to validate this little rule. I think that AD will stay on because Imagine also produces 24 and they could force Fox to keep AD on the air as a condition to keep 24 going. Just my opinion.
I thought Undeclared was a pretty cool show. They always had hot girls in their underwear on every episode.
Sign Petition! Fox reportedly are cutting the order for Arrested Development episodes to make room for American Dad on May 1st: http://www.petitiononline.com/Arrested/petition.html Sign petition to save Arrested Development!
Re: Sign Petition! What **************s! They don't promote the show like they should in the first place and now they are going to cut episodes to make way for show that was pretty awful! I just signed the petition and am planning on calling Gail Brennan, the head of Fox, to let them know how I feel. One hopes that if Fox ends up cancelling this show that another network will be there to pick it up. A show like this doesn't deserve to be treated this way.
Re: Sign Petition! Pretty awful? American Dad was maybe the worst thing I've ever seen on TV (keep in mind, I haven't watched the Simple Life). I only caught the beginning of Charlie Rose (recorded the rest) last night, but one of the producers was saying how the Fox exec. knew a good show when he saw it at the beginning. If the above is true, maybe he gave Fox too much credit. The fact is, without Arrested Development, I will watch Fox once a week (24 on Mon.). I will no longer watch Simpsons, and I won't stick around to catch the Family Guy. I will find something better to do. Q
Re: Sign Petition! I would be more understanding if Fox had promoted the show better. But beyond putting it after The Simpsons, they did very little. Now, I concede that Arrested is a difficult show to promote with short teasers, but you know, that's what the suits get paid to do - to maximize audience. But I'm thinking the show might be a better fit on cable (premium or otherwise), where a small but loyal audience can pay the bills.
Re: Sign Petition! Again, if I was Ron Howard, I would threaten Fox with shuting down 24 (which is also done by Imagine Entertainment) if they decided to cancel AD. If anything, I hope that they can find a new home for this show (HBO?) if Fox kills it.
Re: Sign Petition! done i will say that i hope they keep the bleeps in if they did move to HBO - that's funnier than hearing the actual word
Re: Sign Petition! I'm sure they would. If you watch the First Season DVD, you hear curse words sometimes (when the kid magician tells GOB "F--- you"), but the bleeping is there when it's for comic effect (when various characters burn themselves on the Cornballer).
Re: Sign Petition! Buster's tirade against his mother in the second or third episode. That bleep was about ten seconds long. Interview with Mitchell Hurwitz.
Re: Sign Petition! I signed it. I like The Family Guy but American Dad was absolutely horrible and I can't believe they would do something like this.
Re: Sign Petition! No kidding. Fox has no idea how to handle it. My hope is that somehow HBO gets a hold of it.
Re: Sign Petition! i have GOB's sexual harassment speech on my ipod - the funniest part is that they strategically bleep so you know what he's saying
I know it was you Gail. You broke my heart. You broke my heart! Death to Fox, Fox will be dead to me.
David Cross is on Jimmy Kimmel right now addressing the internet rumors. He doesn't know for sure yet. He's joking about it, but he's obviously peeved. "I hope Fox puts in its place 'America's Cutest Retards'."
Today has been one of the worst days of my life. I programmed the wrong channel so I recorded Queer Eye instead of the WCQ and I then I learn about this. BTW David Cross is on Jimmy Kimmel right now and is just ripping Fox.
Jason Bateman's hosting gig on this week's SNL will be interesting. Death to Fox. Hopefully HBO picks it up then Huzzah!
