I noticed he made the game day bench tonight...curious to see what the CB depth chart looks like now that Agren has his green card.
Since today Quakes 2 are in Portland I am not sure the players that were with the first team yesterday will be in Portland.
Ågren's been in the 1st team 18 for some number of weeks now, going back to the St. Louis game. If he was out of the country for green card it must have come around the beginning of the season.
Is it because of injury though? What would the squad look like if Tsakiris, Judson and Nathan weren't injured? If Nathan didn't go down, would we still have Mensah? With the way it went in Columbus and the way Nance has the Crew playing, its very easy to figure out Mensah was too slow for that system. (Crew look very good). If he came up, would we still have jumped the gun? I noticed Munie has been dropped from the bench. So is the order now Mensah Rodriguez Beason Agren Munie
That's what I was wondering...basically I'm just counting the minutes until Agren and Munie get above Beason in the pecking order...
Wow, interesting. I take this as a sign that Munie has kind of moved ahead of him? They need a 4th guy on the CB depth chart, if Beason is the 3rd.
I called it during the preseason. Luchi has 0 interest in Agren and this is likely to phase him out and get him some looks. I bet he gets traded to the Rapids at some point. I think its Mensah Rodrigues Beason Beason Munie Munie Yueill LMAO
I think I'd put Ågren over Beason, but I Beason's got an advantage in that he's a leftie and has a lot more experience. And yes, Munie over Ågren based on what I've seen, though I like Ågren well enough. Munie just plays quicker and more aggressively and decisively, based on what I've seen. This could also just be that the Quakes recognize that they've got too many CBs in the pipeline. Besides Ågren and Munie, there's Cano and Walls. Ågren's not going to develop sitting on the bench and if he plays for Quakes II, he takes time from Munie, Cano, and Walls.
Oh yes the mysterious Casey Walls... the many who has played 0 minutes on the first team, but has more 8x10s available then Benji Kikavonic lol. As we've seen with many players in the past, present and future, with all teams in the leagues and worlds... can't keep everyone, and not everyone is going to be valued as much as we assume they will be. Agren I think will fall into that category for us. Maybe with another team he pans out. But I've seen all too many times guys we've had never pan out who maybe should have? How do you put that circle above the A?
On a Macbook, anyway, type the letter but instead of releasing the keys (A and shift key), hold them down and a little selection box will appear with all of the different markings over the A.
He needs to play and if the Quakes feel he didn't have enough experience or game right now to leap frog Beason then this is good move to get him consistent playing time. i agree Q2 isn't really an option.
I move that we heretofore refer to Goodsport as "Goodspôrt" in order to perserve the number of weird diacritical marks regularly used on this forum.
One of the Next / Pro announcers called him "MOO-n-yay", which is probably not how he pronounces it? Hard to gauge the origin of that name but could be Dutch maybe?
Interesting timing. Last year the Quakes were paper thin on center backs. This year it appears they whipsawed too far the other way. Seven center backs on first team contracts. Nathan (injured) Ågren (loaned out) Mensah Rodrigues Beason Munie Walls Two more on professional contracts with Quakes ii. Cano Dossmann (I think, not announced) The team also has Nathan Rodrigues and Israel Carrillo on Q2 that play center back. No wonder Drew Murray and Ethan Kohler are playing for the Roots. I do wonder if Ågren decided to pass on playing a few games here and there for Q2 and asked for consistent playing time. Maybe the Quakes were very impressed/happy with Munie’s performance across preseason and the first Quakes ii games. Perhaps Cano’s MOTM performance against RSL juniors caused them to shuffle the playing time plans (or adding Dossmann to the developmental pathway). Whatever the reasons, the Quakes are very deep right now at center back after being really thin the past two years. For a while it was too many defensive midfielders.
