Third home match of the season. Rapids are 0-3-2, LAFC 3-0-1. A reminder that the kickoff is actually 7:39. The 3 in the back seemed to work well for the Rapids in Austin both in the attack and defending. It looked like at times Abubacar pushed forward almost like a fullback. And the Rapids limited Austin's chances. Looks like both Rubio and Yapi will get some playing time this weekend. Attended #Rapids96 first-team practice today. Limited reps: Cole Bassett, Ralph Priso, Bouba Keita, Connor Ronan and Bryan Acosta.Players that did get reps: Diego Rubio, Steven Beitashour, Mike Edwards, Keegan Rosenberry. pic.twitter.com/dIBB0dLIdz— Brendan Ploen (@BrendanPloen) March 30, 2023
I hope the limited reps were just "today is your light day of the week" and not "Bassett, Priso, Acosta, and Ronan are all going to be listed as Questionable" this week.
Bassett was already listed as questionable for “Hamstring” unfortunately Basset now with the injury bug 🤷♂️ pic.twitter.com/ADw0Aexshf— B-ray (@RapidsBray) March 30, 2023
Okay seriously, what the hell is this organization even doing? It really isn't acceptable to be constantly losing people to injury every single week.
A very blustery day at #Rapids96 practice.Limited reps: Cole Bassett, Ralph Priso.“Cole’s the only one in question, Everybody else is fair game.” -Fraser said.Even gusts of 25 mph, Bryan Acosta’s corners looked dangerous, and it’s good to hear Diego Rubio’s familiar shouts.— Brendan Ploen (@BrendanPloen) March 31, 2023
1-1 draw, goal by Rubio. This feels optimistic, but we have played LAFC well lately and we have Rubio starting (hopefully) for the first time this season. Still not going to get a win, but we won't regress from last week. http://view-from-the-couch.blogspot.com/2023/03/rapids-face-defending-champs.html
I think this is a game ripe for the taking. Also interesting note, Robin Fraser said Tuesday was the team’s best day of practice of the season so far. Regarding matching play to the standard set from last Saturday, here’s what he had to say. #Rapids96 pic.twitter.com/hNIouiTxRA— Brendan Ploen (@BrendanPloen) April 1, 2023 If we’ve had our best practices of the season along with getting our attacking talent back - and it’s a home game - then there’s always a chance we do something against the reigning champs. Also, LAFC travels to Vancouver to play them in their CCL match, which they will want to perform well in. After that Wednesday they play Saturday against Austin, and then again on Tuesday against Vancouver for the 2nd leg of their CCL. That’s a lot of games smushed together for LAFC, and the Rapids - at altitude - are probably the least of their concerns right now. And then you pair this: We're breaking out our Black & Gold kits to face the Black & Gold tonight 😤 pic.twitter.com/6108uvAiqn— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) April 1, 2023 The game after the original Caribou I believe was Vancouver in 2014, which was a 2-1 win for the good guys. So who knows what happens tonight! I think we sneak out a result
2-0 loss. I’d like to be optimistic, but there’s a fine line between that and delirious. I just don’t see two good performances in a row. Hope I’m wrong. Cool weather at the Dick might help.
Going back the Colorado Caribou kits (I know this is not the the theme of the thread) I didn't realize the Caribou part comes from the Caribou recording studio west of Boulder. That's cool.
It will be interesting to see how both Yapi and Rubio will be integrated back into the side after missing last week with intl duty. Perhaps Lewis will go out wide. Also, where will Cabral play when he comes in?
Decent showing, Danny Wilson MOTM he was the only one who was close to scoring. Rosenberry, Max and Nicholson were turnover machines all night though, they looked like preseason form. Hopefully they can turn a corner.
The Rapids were not awful… I have no idea what Max adds to this team at all - I know they spent a bunch of money on him and he is young, so they are not going to give up on him, but he adds very little and is not starter material on any team in this league. Right now we are averaging a goal… every three games, which is objective terrible. We get shots off but the offense never looks dangerous. If not for Yarbrough we would easily have zero points. This is going to be a long year.
The Rubio sub was nonsensical and deflated the game. I'm getting really irritated with constantly "saving" guys at this point in the season. What are we saving them for exactly? The hole is going to be too deep by the time we decide to get serious about having our most important players actually playing significant minutes. Also, what was the point of signing Cabral if we're not going to play him? Only Padraig Smith would be so stupid as to pay a bunch of money and tie up a DP slot for a guy that Fraser doesn't want to play beyond a garbage-time sub. This was another winnable game not won because we have no attacking options. I can not emphasize how utterly terrible Smith is at his job and that he needs to be purged from the organization. Meaningful progress is literally impossible as long as he's still in charge.
Missed this match to see Trevor Noah. Was hoping to see the full game via Season Pass, but only got the extended highlights. Is there a way to access matches in the days following their completion? Watching the highlights, it looked like the Rapids had more than enough opportunities to score via a set piece. Rapids had 10 corners to 3 for LAFC.
