Tillman has his B1 play in addition to the 4 games.

I don't know that his Bundesliga play was particularly notable. It's true he played in the Bundesliga, but it was for a team that was one of the worst Bundesliga teams in recent memory. A team that finished with 18 points total, a -54 goal difference, and finished the season 15 points from safety.

There were also no Bundesliga teams trying to sign him after Greuther Fürth was relegated.

Now I don't hold that against him because his team was so bad and it's hard to stand out in that type of situation.

I haven't seen reports that Tim hadn't been contacted. Based on the number of players who were at least capped under Gregg I assumed that Tim hadn't been ready to make the switch.

It is clear that you did not actually see Tillman in the BuLi. He stood out. Everything that you see at LAFC he displayed in the BuLi. he did not suddenly learn to play soccer at LAFC. Furth was poor but not as bad as Schalke previous year and Hoppe got a call.

Your assertion that no team tried to sign him is absolutely false. I know for a fact that Schalke was in contention with 2 or 3 other BuLi squad for his services. Furth was asking too much ($2M) at that time. Schalke picked up Alex Kral and Jordan Larson on free transfers because of the Russian war.

Are we now predicating USMNT callups on if BuLi teams are trying to sign the player? Our rosters will be very thin if that is the case.

It does not make sense that they would turn down a $2 million transfer for him, only to let him leave for LAFC for 500,000.

And no I do not think we should base USMNT call ups based on whether Bundesliga teams are trying to sign someone. Just that Tillman played on such a bad team that it was hard to be able to stand out. Which is not a knock on him as a player but more an explanation as to why he was missed.

Er no. No one looks like Randy Quaid. Bob, David and Keith Carradine all look different. James and Stacy Keach look a bit a like but Nick
holas and Christopher Guest used to be ringers for each other.

They don't really play a lot alike. Malik is mostly all offense, and Timothy has gotten pretty much all his value this year from being a forward presser and converting a couple of turnovers. IIRC, in the Bundesliga, he played a similar role and was more of a ball secure 8 than someone who went aggressively at goal like Malik.

They have similar body movement and ball control styles. Kind of like you can tell the aaronsons are bros even if they’ll play the game differently.

Wait.....we're constantly told that MLS is "inferior crap league" and that MLS players shouldn't be called into the USMNT......

Maybe we should wait for Tillman to move (back) to Europe first?

    *this is sarcasm*

We should recognize that although there is this logic that players don’t metamorphosis into a super star by just playing in a different league that it is also true that within a few months there should be a considerable difference in the form of the player based on his confidence, playing time, and playing environment.

The job of the USMNT manager is to recognize and call up international-quality players wherever they may be playing. The easiest place to look is promoted teams, especially when the player played a pivotal role in the promotion. Wolfsburg signing Parades from a woeful DC United team is an example of a staff doing their job.

Not sure where you got the idea that Furth turned down $2M? They were asking $5M for Leweling (sold for $4M). They were asking $2M+ for Tillman and never reached an acceptable deal. Tillman only had one year left on his contract and clubs were willing to wait the 6 months+ until he could sign a pre-contract with a free transfer.

For a variety of reasons Tillman's season back in 2BL was not going well, he and the team were experiencing the relegation blues and not playing well. While Tim could have signed a pre contract and sit out the rest of the season, the opportunity to play in the US and for Furth to get $500K instead of 0 made a deal that worked for all parties.

How much are those leagues spending on development? And, how much are they making on selling domestically developed players?

So, best I can tell, Apple+ gets you about 1/2 the MLS matches? Any feedback on how they allocate the matches between paywalled matches and double paywalled? Are the good teams, or good matches behind the double paywall? Are the exciting US players behind the double paywall?

Imo, this approach is going to make MLS like boxing. New fans will not find the sport. And, with the USNT's doing the same thing?

Once you pop, you can't stop. Back to back weeks now. This is better than last.

He's still got the defense though. Don't worry.

I don't know. I got season pass for free, thru an existing T-Mobile plan. So I don't have a feel that I'm getting screwed, like w/ Peacock, where the better options for Americans are usually put on TV.

But when it comes to MLS, there's a lot of parity. And from what I can tell on the schedule, I don't see an obvious difference in quality between the games they put on Season Pass or Apple+.

I'm curious though, are they showing a significant amount of games on the free apple App, or is it really just AppleTV+?

My understanding was that ~40 percent of the games are available for free even for those without any subscription, while a season pass gets you everything.

I'm still not sure an Apple+ subscription gets you anything additional, other than the one show that cuts back and forth between all of the games being played at the time.

I've been able to get alot of it through just having the regular Apple TV, which also gives you access to MLS 360 (which is mostly what I've been watching) and the MLS Wrap Up show they do. The number of free games per week seems to vary though. For the 7:30 games this week I've got 4 options in terms of free games.

3 of 4 USMNT games have been on TNT though thus far though. The 4th was on HBO, but I believe you could also get it on broadcast TV via Spanish language. I don't think they've announced what they are going to do for the upcoming Mexico game though.

The Nations League finals will be on Paramount Plus and I believe the Gold Cup on Fox, but those games are not under the control of USSF.

This is happening with soccer rights in general in the US. I'm not sure about MLS, but broadly they tend to have a much higher number of people subscribing just to watch the games compared to other sports once you move them from free TV to behind a paywall.

I know that's the way it was sold/interpreted, but I'm wondering what's actually happening, because I don't know. I lost awareness of that once I got Season Pass.

They also did say Apple+ would get you significantly more games, so one of the claims had to be false.
