Cristante has his uses and in a 5 man midfield he covers a lot of ground.

I'd like a midfield of a fit and in form Verratti, Pellegrini and Tonali/Barella. Basically, I'm nostalgic but the truth be told, we are better with more midfielders.

Role models, just role models. Ancelotti has his system too and it needs a Kroos. The closest thing we've got to him is Locatelli when he's in form. Give me at least another one and a player that can mix up the midfield play. Jorginho is not that guy and neither is Verratti. Verratti will be useful deep when Jorginho finally leaves, and it's a matter of finding the two box to box midfielders to support him. We have them, but who is in form is a guess where yours is as good as mine.

This was a possibility a few months back when Pellegrini was in better form. The idea was also to swap his position, in your lineup, with Verratti, and put Pellegrini as #10. We might see it if things pick up this June.

    He's not lying.
    It's a business.
Serie A has to turn a profit and so we develop players and sell them.

The strength of Ancelotti is his ability to build a group. He is not a deep philosopher and the formation he plays always depends on the personnel he is given. Italy doesn’t have a Kroos or Modric but neither does France, Spain, Brazil etc. He would have to invent something else. It could be that Carlo gets exposed if he coaches Italy like he did at Naples, but I’d rather have someone who attempts to play the best 11 than a guy like Mancini that makes decisions that only makes sense to him.

I believe I mentioned that with Brazil, Carlo would also face alternatives in the midfield.

Their creativity can come from elsewhere and they don't have a problem with CB's. Carlo will never coach France or Spain so any comment on that is not necessary. He won't coach Brazil either, so don't worry.

If we're being honest all coaches have preferences and styles, and all coaches have to build a group around it's strengths. We accomplished that in 2021 as a group. Before the final game I told my boys that they have rehearsed everything. They know all the moves and most importantly they were good enough to carry out our plan of attack. Finally, I told them to have fun and it showed in their play.

Sadly since that time we've had one set back after another. Carlo has not ever and will never abandon a solId Italian game plan and we've returned to some of that in the Nation's League. Jorginho cannot sit deep and break up plays any more. He's not the same player, and needs a midfield destroyer to cover for his deficiencies. Verratti can handle himself but his best role is still wider. If Locatelli cannot be progressed into the original vision we had for him, and that was a player in the Tony Kroos mold, then we cannot fully be ready for Carlo.

This is what I will try to find in June.

I'd leave pasta de fagioli in the dressing room as a roster spot over Jorginho

Mancini deserves to be grilled endlessly alone for his refusal to choose Zaccagni, honestly on his way to being the best Italian player in serie A

The very thought of Jorginho makes me dream of Alessio Tacchinardi, which used to be a hellish nightmare of my youth

The 2001-02 Italian formations which included Tacchinardi starting with Cristiano Zanetti sound like a wet dream compared to Jorginho who is a limp noodle

Developing very well. Plays very similarly in style to Luca Toni, which we desperately need in the Nazionale.

i'm sorry i still don't see the resemblance of him to Toni. Maybe a few characteristics... but overall i don't watch him and have Toni as the first player to mind.

His ship needs to right itself before I will call him again. He knows what this means. How bad does he want the call? His actions will tell all we need to know.

Happy to see Tonali and Calabria have excellent games, Calabria especially because when he's in form he's pretty solid.

You need to check your own ship above all else, because it sucks.

And your love for Jorginho is gross. Untying yourself from that malnourished crap stain would be a good place to start to rebuild your creditability.

I do not love Jorginho. I've identified his weaknesses. I'm actively trying to convince him to not show up anymore. I made a promise to that midfield that I cannot get out of right now. Soon he will be relegated to watching the Azzurri from home.

What we need is for Locatelli and Pellegrini to really step up in the next few months. Tonali is already being warmed into the lineup and I have ideas and plans for Fagioli, Pinamonti and Fratelli. Pobega could become useful too but for now I prefer Cristante.

I also intend on rebuilding the defense before the Euro's. I hope Max Allergies doesn't ruin Gatti, and that Bastoni finds full fitness. I also hope Baschirotto continues to grow. If he does, he will get a chance in June. Scalvini already showed some of his promise vs Malta but there is work to be done before he can become a protagonist. If he continues playing consistently for Atalanta, he should be a regular by Fall. Udogie is a distant third when he finally makes that jump ahead of Emerson. I rely on Emerson in last minute situations because he knows our system. Spinazolla and Dimarco remain the first two in that position. Calabria could become an idea again if he keeps up his form. He was right that Kessie was a stupid person even if he was very strong. Calabria has some good ideas. He needs consistency. I hope Pioli gives it to him so I can reward him too.

My ideas align with the current movement in Serie A. I won't abandon the 4-3-3 but am actively working towards alternative formations that will make us feared again. Here are examples of the current Serie A trend. It is a work in progress and evolving. We already see the effects this year in the CL where 3 of the final 8 teams are from Serie A. This is what progress looks like. Trust the plan.
