Depending on the team standings and who they are able to bring in, getting rid of him after the secondary window would be the best time. Can't wait for the end of the season, there's no time to bring someone in.
In true RSL fashion, they'd probably just promote Kurt. I don't know if that'd be good or bad.

Soggy pitch, temps in the high 20s or low 30s, possible snow. Can you think of a worse scenario?

My interpretation of part of the actual story is that RSL and Dami have come to an understanding that he will be an employee after his playing days are over and what the role will likely be.

Funny, this game day article has more insight on Eneli than the one about him. Looks like he's an outside back or wingback capable of playing on either side.

“We are thrilled to keep ‘Dami’ the player on the field in Salt Lake for several more years on an extended deal,” Fall said. “And our Club is even more ecstatic to keep Damir the phenomenal leader and person attached to our organization for even longer.”

How does that jive with the part that his contract as a player is only through 2024?

It should not be that hard to get clear info from the club.

@RSLer, hope that doesn't sound like an attack. I'm glad that he appears to want to be a part of the club when he's done playing, but I don't interpret the statements the same way you are.

No offense taken. Additionally, even if was an attack I wouldn’t take offense. Anyway, I see 2 statements there. The first is regarding the extension and keeping him on the field for several more years. The second, which I was referring to, is that his leadership and person will be attached to the organization even after he is no longer on the field.

Regarding the extension and him being on the field for several more years, I have no idea what they are planning. It’s clear as mud.

Why do this now? Why do it at all? It's only 3 games in and Dami, other than the goal in Vancouver, hasn't been lights out or even lights so far this season.

I guess if the idea is to keep Dami long term after his playing days and it's all tied up in a nice bow I guess that works. I just wonder how smart and prudent it is to extend a player that hasn't yet, and may not ever, return to previous form?

Is this a signing that someone could point to April 25 when not much else has transpired as a way to push off expectations until the summer window?

It could also be a signing that might not look great 6 months from now and into next season if old man time, who never loses, gets to Dami and he's not who we thought he was.

I am concerned that this was done so soon in this season. If he is going to coach or be a part of the team why not wait and see how this season plays out before extending?

An interesting choice to say the least.

I'm not a fan of the extension. I agree that it's way too soon. Why not wait until summer and see how he's doing? At that point we'd all have a better idea if he may be good to go for another year.

This is one of the things Fall does that is so weird
He is super fast to get players extensions on deals that either still have a decent amount of time on their current deal or are for players that simply don’t have competitive interest to justify doing it yet

he’s fast to extend and slow to sign new

Except Ochoa. Which has worked out okay, but that one was the opposite.

You mean like giving Rubin a fat check after the goal of the season against SJE?

So close to a Haiku that I am a bit disappointed in that post not being a Haiku.

Speaking of "committing to players with a tiny sample size", I'm still amazed at how the club apparently felt so good about Bryan Oviedo that we felt we could trade Herrera. He played well at the end of the year last year, but he just turned 33, and came to us after a year where he played 0 league games with Copenhagen. I think he'd played 3 total competitive games (2 of them with Costa Rica) in the prior 18 months or something?

I think Oviedo can be depth plus an attacking sub, and maybe that's worth an international slot. But I'm expecting him to be unavailable a lot this year, in addition to Silva. Vera can cover for one of them at a time but it still means we'll need our deep bench fairly often this year (as we did against St. Louis).

If only we had a talented young center back on a loan somewhere that we could recall...

    KB might want to?

Otherwise, I'm game. I don't see how Damir fits in just about any lineup with this roster.

I don’t disagree with the constant reminder that our attack needs a better forward and creative mid

but rsl hasn’t kept a clean sheet once this season. In 3 of the 4 games they’ve given up multiple goals. The back line has not played well this year. A 0-0 draw would justify bitching about strikers as much as we do.

it’s also obvious how mediocre macmath is as a keeper. He doesn’t make any great saves. He’s serviceable but there is a reason he played as a backup everywhere else. So…. Why not play beavers? What does Pablo have to lose ?

The St. Louis GK situation is the opposite of our’s. Their whole team and concept of play is built around him imo. He blocks shots, positions well, wonderfully directs his backs and was an excellent distributor. Next, they brought in big bodied, tall backs to take up space in the box and to control the air. With that foundation they can afford to play higher and to transition effectively. (I realize that’s a simplistic evaluation)

The irony is, even with that size, they don’t cross the ball even close to as much as RSL

We cross many times to short attackers. Their height is really good for corners and other set pieces. But it’s on the defensive end where their height and bulk shine.
