The U20 WC wouldn’t cap-tie them though It could establish a sense of pride and belonging that could encourage the youngsters to take a stance in Argentina’s favor in the long-run, but technically they could still be able to make the switch to Italy (or whatever other country) after
From my understanding, it would not cap-tie them but if they do want to switch over, they’d have to wait three years to do so. Or that could just be the age of them being 21 and under(Playing a friendly). Not 100% sure. It could be the latter.
Zarate did not switch over. Paletta, however did switch over to Italy. I think we may have a few who have done that with Paraguay. On the news of Garnacho.
I'd hope ETH would see it as a great opportunity to develop Garnacho further (especially if Mascherano is kept away) with some more tournament football and leadership responsibilities.
With the media saturation of football Messi is idolized around the world and thus it's not a surprise to see the level of support for Argentina although some of that is more Messi orientated than for the seleccion. It'll be interesting to see how that support changes on his retirement but I suspect it will only be a slight decrease. Diego crossed over from just the sporting world to become a popular cultural icon and the style, skill and flair displayed also helped. Brazil too with the style that they played with until around 1990 and their success developed a very large fan base too.
In my country, Brazil popularity declined alot after Kaka , Ronnie, Adriano era. They just lack x-factor these days. Most of their stars these days are only popular because Real Madrid & EPL sides loves to sign them. Also, European pundits would consider Brazil as the only good South American team. Even in WC 2014, lots of non football fans or casual fans would jumped on the Germany's bandwagon , cause it makes them looks cool on social media.
Pep Guardiola on Julian Alvarez: "Not just the goal, the assist in the second, the third. He was involved in everything. With the ball, so clever. He's an exceptional player. He plays for the the national team of Argentina, the World Cup champions alongside Lionel Messi." pic.twitter.com/O7WkuooLlZ— Roy Nemer (@RoyNemer) April 1, 2023

Pep is hilarious. "..... he also is immaculate at serving my coffee, better than anyone before. The taste of columbian freshness but presented by an Argentinian who plays with the fine left foot of Messi, who descended from the foot hill of the kings like Diego."

I'm so happy about hosting the U-20 World Cup. It's awesome how we are pulling a "Chilena" and getting into the WC without qualifying. But, unlike Chile, we do have the talent if we get the complete U-20 squad to actually win it. Plus, a good showcase of Argentine passion, and the opportunity to show off our cool new provincial stadiums (Santiago, San Luis etc) will be huge in giving our bid a leg up to host 2030.

The list of stadiums for the 2030 WC bid has been released: ARGENTINA (7): Estadio Monumental (83,000 capacity), Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes de Córdoba (57,000), Estadio Único de La Plata (53,000), Estadio Madre de Ciudades de Santiago del Estero (30,000), Estadio Libertadores de América (48,000), Estadio Malvinas Argentinas de Mendoza (42,000), Estadio Presidente Perón (42,000) PARAGUAY (5): Estadio Conmebol (60,000) [to be built], Estadio Defensores del Chaco (45,000), Estadio Gral. Pablo Rojas (45,000), Estadio Antonio Aranda (28,000), Estadio Villa Alegre (45,000) URUGUAY (3): Estadio Centenario (60,000), Estadio Campeón del Siglo (40,000), Estadio Gran Parque Central (34,000) CHILE (3): Estadio Nacional de Santiago (48,000), Estadio Monumental de Colo Colo (43,000), Estadio Ester Roa (33,000) Notice a certain half-stadium has been excluded, like in '78..
Why the two stadiums of Avellaneda? It doesn't make any sense. They are literally next to each other. And 3 out of 7 stadiums in Buenos Aires? I know, I know.. Avellaneda is technically not Capital Federal, but come on... San Luis, San Juan, Mar del Plata... you had many other options. I get why Rosario (now the Far West) got discarded. And while we have the prettiest stadium of the country in Santa Fe, I understand is not located in the best neighbourhood for hosting a World Cup. Anyway, can't say I'm happy with that list.
The President of CONMEBOL must have a hand in that. Is this list provisional. FIFA to scout the sites and proposed modifications and upgrades before deciding a final list. A World Cup in South America would be great for the sport. The issues have to do with the economy and upgrading some of the transport infrastructure and stadiums. Monumental for instance needs an overhaul for example in stadium facilities. So the investment will have to be looked at. I really hope it happens. I can see Messi carrying the trophy out at the opening ceremony in Monumental for the opening game Argentina versus Ghana. Hell he might even be on the squad still as a substitute. Enzo and Echeverri roaming around the midfield as if it's their own. Blue and white confetti everywhere. I hope this u20 Mundial goes well. No issues with crowd control, transport, hotels etc,etc as it would tick several boxes with regard to 2030. The Rugby World Cup should have been in Argentina by now but issues like the above have meant it still has to arrive though the UAR has proposed it's candidacy for 2031 with one or two matches in Montevideo and Santiago seeing as the Condors and Los Teros are improving every year.
As much as I’d love the World Cup home soil in 2030, I just have a hard time believing that FIFA will give it to a non-European nation(s) for a third straight time. The biggest threat, will be Spain/Portugal and sigh… China. I would absolutely hate a Chinese World Cup.
Me too. Although CONMEBOL has a more powerful hand now. Messi will have a lot of ambassadorial work to do. I'd love to come down and take it all in and I'm sure plenty of others would do so. Enjoy the rest of the day amigo. Off for a walk in the park with the missus. Spring is here.
