I didn't have to go back, it was on the most recent page. Also I think people should have been clear on just how good Luke Shaw was by last year for sure. Furthermore, the WOOF was actually about wanting to run with Telles and Williams. People keep saying Elanga is one of the worst outfield players they've seen for this club and that is just insane. Telles couldn't run, tackle, mark or even move into space. He may have overlapped one time in his entire time with the team.
That post wasn’t mean to be a glowing review of Telles or Williams. More so a post about how sick I was of the starters and their lack of quality and effort.
The most amazing thing about Luke is that he played a full season in 13/14 and then didn't play another full season until 18/19, breaking his leg in 15/16. He missed out on *a lot* of development between 19 and 24 yet is still one of the best LBs in the game at 27. https://t.co/0370hiQHit— UtdArena (@UtdArena) February 22, 2023
Luke Shaw has agreed a new long-term contract at Manchester United. Reward for an excellent season. Expected to be four-year deal. Will take him beyond a decade at the club. With @David_Ornstein #MUFChttps://t.co/MdtWPKjzaZ— Laurie Whitwell (@lauriewhitwell) March 31, 2023
If we use that as a marker to decide whose contract to renew, as opposed to what they have done over season(s), then we would not have a team to field.
Well we’re stuck with him for the long haul now. If he keeps this seasons form I’m fine with it as long as he’s benched against Saka and Salah. We’ve all seen Shaw can be an 8/10 one season and 3/10 the next. Hopefully he’s past that. I wonder if towards the back end of this contract when his speed starts to go if he’s moved to CB.
I think he should start transitioning now. I don't think we have to get a cb for when varane needs to be rested. Use shaw more, get a veteran lb while malacia develops
Part of Shaws ability as LB is that he's left sided/footed. Him and Martinez as a pair would markedly less effective in my opinion. I'm fine for him to spot/backup at LCB, but that should be it for now.
not a fan of the CB talk at all. he was largely untested while playing there. he hasn't magically become good in the air or a competent CB overnight. as long as he is doing fine at LB keep him there
De Gea gets a renewal (which he turned down ironically), Shaw a long term renewal, and Bruno keeps on being captain (with Maguire no less). Our worst loss in almost a century in large part because those three in particular decided to not to play anymore. I do think they are lucky to have been rewarded when they should be made to feel they have more to prove if they want stay here.
Thought about that before hitting post, but since I already typed it I thought what the heck. Should have known that one of you mutters would have called me out on it. Still think Shaw will end up at center back somehow however.
Like James mentioned, the problem is Martinez and Shaw are primary LCBs. I can see transitioning to a depth LCB later in his career but not displacing Martinez. Edit: My bad, I just saw you already responded to James about it.
Who said anything about displacing Martinez?? Shaw will allow for him to move into the cdm position. Y'all are not thinking strategically enough.
Here is me hoping he has turned the tide for good and dont return to old Luke Shaw now he has contract extended. Good thread title, didnt notice the update.
After the verbal agreement reached last week, Luke Shaw has now signed main part of paperwork — new contract at Manchester United will be valid until June 2027. 🔴🤝🏻 #MUFCShaw never considered other options as he always wanted to stay. pic.twitter.com/YojXSMOakV— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) April 3, 2023
Let's see how fat he looks when he returns for pre-season training. He always puts on beer weight in the summer...
