Busio off the squad for the second game in a row. What's the extent of his injury? https://www.pianetaserieb.it/news-serie-b/venezia-il-brescia-si-avvicina-le-scelte-di-vanoli/
Out of Action this weekend: Vines Tillman Busio Returned to Action in the last week: Pulisic - has made two sub appearances Sargent - made a sub appearance Booth – made the bench today Wright - has made two appearances Johnny Cardoso – if he injured his ankle last week, then it healed extremely rapidly, because he's been playing
That's good news on Booth making the bench. That means getting him into camp is a definite possibility. Tillman looks like the only one who is likely to get called up who has a potential injury issue. Zendejas also had a brief appearance for Club America this weekend so he seems back too.
To me that pretty much rules out Malik Tillman. It's bad timing. That may be true of Booth as well. He should have played at least. It's going to partially depend on alternatives as always. The alternatives are why I'm probably not bringing Sargent either, with only a sub appearance. We have to look at strikers in starting capacities, and there's plenty others of similar accomplishment to evaluate.
Tyler Adams has been sent to see a specialist after a hamstring strain ruled him out of Leeds United’s next match and the #USMNT squad for the upcoming international break. It remains to be seen how long he will be sidelined.https://t.co/YZDq8c9x54— The Athletic (@TheAthletic) March 16, 2023
Per Nico Estévez, Paxton Pomykal had an MRI on his hamstring after leaving last game early. It was negative for injury so likely just soreness. He trained today but is day-by-day. Would be a big miss if he can't face LAFC: Graph of Pax in '23 vs. the average MLS mid in '22 👇 pic.twitter.com/VWYHMOr3w6— Garrett Melcer (@GarrettMelcer) March 22, 2023
Looking at that graphic shows Pomykal to be very good at a lot of things. He does need to improve his aerial game. Too me he's still not back to his peak because he's no showing what used to be a pretty golden left foot. He took corners, free kicks and good shots back then and is not back to that yet. I wonder if it's something to do with the hip surgery?
He's 5'8", so I'm not expecting much. Or have Ferreira and Velasco just taken the role? Much like with Pulisic with the National Team, I think sometimes the set piece taker is determined not just by quality but also their uselessness in other places in one. Short attackers tend to take them a lot -- they can't compete in the scrum, and they aren't good for protecting against counters.
Ha. The aerial talk was a joke because he's short. Velasco and Ferreira are both right footed while Pomykal is a lefty. It also doesn't explain his lack of shots. When younger (and healthy) he had a wicked left footed shot.
Not good An injury blow for Leeds United - Tyler Adams has undergone surgery on the hamstring injury which forced him to miss the win over Wolves and international duty with the USA.Story @TheAthleticFC:https://t.co/rPPVPL3jLI— Phil Hay (@PhilHay_) March 28, 2023
Seems like Adams might be done for the Premier League season. Also out for the summer tournaments? That will be painful. But ultimately we do need to find alternatives to him at his position.
Get ready for the summer of Acosta and Aidan Morris. Leeds seem to think he should be back for preseason, so I guess there's a chance he could play in the Gold Cup. I just don't imagine it's super likely he would do so.
I want to see Morris get a longer look for sure and I hope this means we continue to go with a double pivot w/ Gio and Tillman playing CAM. Clint is right. We really need to have legit alternatives to Adams as a single 6.
We need to realize that Adams is mostly injured player. Luckily he was in form at the WC, but those moments are rare. The same goes to Weah, maybe to Dike and Gio as well, and to less degree to Pulisic. We should find alternatives, but even more important not to play systems that make them irreplaceable. Weah and CP are replaceable, Reyna didn't play enough to become irreplaceable, and Dike neither played enough nor needed. But to replace Adams we need to have an alternative formation. What might require having a coach, of course.
Rare? In 2021-22, he played 13 of our 14 World Cup qualifiers (starting 12 of them). In the current EPL season, before his current injury, he had played 24 of Leeds' 27 games. In the 2020-21 and 2021-22 Bundesliga seasons, he played 51 of Leipzig's 68 games. He did miss a lot of time through injury three or four years ago, but that was three or four years ago. Before his current injury, I think that the last time he missed a long stretch of time through injury was in the spring of 2021. I agree that we need to have a Plan B for the number 6, but that's true of every position.
Hamstrings : USMNT Players :: Ulnar Collateral Ligaments : MLB Pitchers. It's a freaking rite of passage at this point.
2021-2022 was a recovery year, he wasn't playing well, had 1,300+ minutes, lost starting position at the RB, and was eventually sold. Between time lost and time after injuries, he isn't a reliable player, we really got lucky. For others positions we do have a Plan B. Except for a striker where we don't have a Plan A.
Of note, I have long made the argument that we are able to take a more proactive approach towards injury prevention in our team ~ which has been riddled with a long hx of injuries that seems bizarrely too frequent. While there have been some, who say it’s impossible to reduce injuries, I have to adamantly protest that I disagree with them. Now, I won’t say that this is the only factor, by any means, but one study actually proves that it is true that you can reduce the frequency of injuries by taking proactive steps. For instance, in the book, Why We Sleep, the author quotes a study by Milewski (2014) that athletes who slept for 6 hours had a 75% chance of injury compared to the 8 hour group that had a 35% injury rate, and the 9 hour group which had a 15% injury rate. That’s an incredible difference! As we talk about young athletes, I cannot help but hypothesize that they’re not prioritizing sleep hygiene as well as they should. Evidence by the rate of injuries. To this point, one simple factor of the USMNT being more proactive in improving the sleep hygiene of our players, along with other factors, such as prioritizing recovery exercises, corrective exercises, and nutrition would help our team out.
