I remember he had a few monster games last season.... his ability is legit. If he can up his consistency then he will be a pretty special player.
I blame some of this on video games. They can't make MLS players as fast in the game because speed is more important in video games than real life. Tajon Buchanan and Alphonso Davies are MLS alums and were.2 of the fastest guys at the world cup.
FIFA has pulled the U20 World Cup from Indonesia. The tournament is still set to run May 20-June 11 and FIFA will announce a new host "as soon as possible".The United States are qualified for the premier youth int'l tournament.— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) March 29, 2023 By the way, the reason that the U20 tournament was pulled from Indonesia is pretty pathetic. The governor of Bali refused to host the Israeli team. Why agree to host a tournament like this if you won't host teams due to political reasons?
Ah...........brings back my favorite Argentina U20 memory. That would be the US U20s beating Messi in 2005 on a goal from Chad Barrett. A ridiculously stacked Argentina team also featuring Sergio Aguero, Pablo Zabaleta, Fernando Gago, Neri Cardozo, Lucas Biglia, and other notables. The US team had 10 players that would go on to get senior USMNT caps. [Nguyen, Gaven, Kljestan, Feilhaber, Szetela, Adu, Spector, Wynne, Brad Evans, and Barrett. Other pretty good future pros like Hunter Freeman and Michael Harrington.] It was the US that won their group consisting of Germany, Argentina, and Egypt. Lost a tough game to Italy in the round of 16. After losing to the US..............Argentina beat Germany, Colombia, Spain, Brazil, and finally Nigeria to win the title.
That game was the first time I ever heard of Messi. I remember going into the game people saying he was the best player on Argentina and wondering why he wasn’t starting. And we really were controlling that game until he came on. And he very much shifted things and we were fortunate to hold on.

I wonder how long it will take to update each players' transfermarkt profile? I know that Wolff is a 2004 but he still has the November value set at $1 million. Whereas Buck has been updated to the end of March.
Caleb Wiley is the 3rd highest valued left back born in 2004 on transfermarkt. And being compared to Alphonso Davies? 👀 https://t.co/Dp6b4y89N3— Kranks (@dis_possessed) March 31, 2023

Matthew Corcoran . @T_Spangenberg ➡️ @M8Corcoran ➡️ @necobrettj 🤯#HammerDown | @ATT pic.twitter.com/3Hm5EsjUQB— Birmingham Legion FC (@bhmlegion) April 2, 2023 Matthew Corcoran's best game as a pro and he is really starting to look confident at this level. Playing at a great tempo and level of physicality. He was great in duels and his passing continues to be his sharpest weapon. Looking like a top 2006 player. https://t.co/2urJbAfJSr— Marcus Chairez (@chai_asc) April 2, 2023
I'll be keeping an eye on him. Last year, he was just too physically immature (understandable -- he was 16) to make an impact. But he's started out well and seems to have added some strength. And he knows more of what to expect form the physical side of the game.
Indeed. He only just turned 17 in February. He left the FCD academy trying to recreate the Jonathan Gomez path, but didn't have the immediate success that Jonathan did in the USL. Let's hope this is his year, and he's on the path to Europe at 18 (which was the idea for leaving FCD). I have overhyped the kid on these boards in the past. Called him Xavi with the bulldog mentality of Michael Bradley. A tad bit of hyperbole. Here's what Buzz said about him in 2020. And yes, FCD has only been able to sign one of these 6 kids. People ask: why does the FCD well seem to have gone dry? Well kids like Matthew Corcoran left. A 6-pack of “protect the investment” signings for FC Dallas - 3rd Degree
Instead they should be trying to replicate the Pepi path. Sign for N Texas, tear it up and then get signed to the full team. Tear it up again and get a big money signing in Europe with a team who is now very invested in you succeeding. Going on a free or very small signing means your are easy to ignore and dump. Doesn't always happen but it's sure a lot easier to forget about cheap signings than expensive ones.
Always good to see more USL teams with homegrown academy players.... and look at who he's replacing Before the day is over, happy birthday Anwar Ben Rhouma! 🎂🥳🎈He's a part of our inaugural class of homegrown academy players and made his pro debut in our 2023 season opener just three weeks before turning 18 years old. #VivaLights ⚽️🎉 pic.twitter.com/Sak8qYAje5— Las Vegas Lights FC (@lvlightsfc) April 4, 2023
Shrug. Plenty of guys that sign for FCD don't pan out either. Former USYNTer Thomas Roberts just signed to play for Columbus Crew 2 in MLS Next Pro. He's 21. As we know, there are kids whose only goal in life is to go to Europe at 18 to the team of their choice on a free transfer. If that's the case, signing a contract with an MLS club (FCD or otherwise) isn't the right path. It doesn't make sense for the MLS club either. Heck, what Jonathan Gomez did made no sense FOR LOUISVILLE. Cuz they signed Gomez to a contract that let him walk away for nearly nothing at 18 years old. Its just weird when you make that decision at 15 or so like Corcoran did. Then what do you do between 15 and 18? In his case he's turned his development over to Birmingham United. What track record of development do they have? He turned his development over to Jay Heaps (President/GM) and Tom Soehn (Coach). So yeah, development experts! Sometimes that works out. That's what Taylor Booth did. Left RSL really early and then was seemingly in no man's land for a long time waiting until he could move to Europe.
After having to pull the U20WC from Indonesia, FIFA has now decided to pull the U17WC from Peru. Jeeeeesh. FIFA has regretfully withdrawn Peru’s hosting rights to the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023™ following extensive discussions between FIFA and the Peruvian Football Federation (FPF).ES: https://t.co/9IE6RTWNLaEN: https://t.co/TioowCyNQZ— FIFA Media (@fifamedia) April 3, 2023
I think these are all related. Roberts was on the old path before they had a "minor league" second team. If he was coming through now he wouldn't sign first with FCD. Gomez left right before the wave of young players were sold making his move to Louisville to go to Europe kind of silly but at the time he didn't know. Corcoran was in the wave who were insulted they weren't going to be signed directly to FCD and moved on. NYRB has had the sign with RBNY 2 path for years so their prospects new what was going to happen. FCD made that change and it upset the first kids having to adjust what they were going to have to do but I think it will be fine going forward.
