I'm not sure about this one. It seems like a lot of people are quite literal on this subject. Incidentally, I would literally love to waterboard those people with Zyklon B.
Amusing twist in the DeSantis vs. Disney story: before handing over control of Reedy Creek to the DeSantis-crony board, they stripped it of most of its power. Exactly the kind of sneaky move Republican state legislatures would do (and have done). https://www.wftv.com/news/local/pow...ding-over-control/P5XHTWXIZZCCXFYXTOFKKQMLXY/
And for those that don't want to follow the links. 1. The agreement prevents the board from using any of Disney's trademarks, including it's names and characters. 2. It allows Disney to build up to the allowed density and allows it to sell or assign the development rights to other district landowners without approval from the board. 3. It bars the board from regulating height limits in the park. 4. It also gives Disney final approval of the exterior appearance of buildings built in the district, including those not built by Disney, while preventing the board from having any say in those appearances. According to the board, the only control they have over the district is the maintenance of roads and infrastructure in the district. Also, the board says the agreement remains in place until 21 years after the last descendants of King Charles III (I believe it is just Harry and William), or until Disney leaves the district.
I was coming here to post this period on top of it. Check out the actual language The clause about King Charles III is absolutely real. The agreement — from the 2/8/23 Reedy Creek board meeting — can be found on https://t.co/6ZQMDUaVME. It appears to have been posted days after @GovRonDeSantis signed the law he says was “ending the Corporate Kingdom”. 5/ pic.twitter.com/CT9hYyIr28— Mike DeForest (@DeForestNews6) March 29, 2023 For those not on Twitter, there is a real clause in the Disney contract with Reedy Creek—“shall continue in effect until twenty one years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III” The Disney attorney that drafted this clause deserves a magic pass to get to the front of line of space mountain. I wonder if Meatball and his appointed board is mad because they can't be punitive against a corporation for their free speech. All they can really do is maintenance and infrastructure
I particularly like the quote from oje of the board members where they complain that Disney’s agreement was the most naked attempt to override the will of the voters that they had ever seen… “I cannot think of a more naked attempt to circumvent the will of the voters, the will of the legislature, and the will of the governor,” said one board member, who read aloud one of the reported agreements between Disney and the former Reedy Creek board. 3/ pic.twitter.com/e7uDrTu0a9— Mike DeForest (@DeForestNews6) March 29, 2023 Apparently the person have never seen what happens to a Governor’s power whenever a Democrat is elected in a Republican state…
Yes, it would include his living descendants, grandkids included. (originally I wrote something different but then saw the clause)
Actually until the line of succession ends. We would need an event that wiped out both Willie and Harry and their kids.
Funny and interesting I’ve just read a book by Carl Hiaasen and on a second of his now about the government corruption and sneaky ways land developers have carved up the coastline of Florida. Even found ways to overtake park property that was to be in “ “Perpetuity!” Fictional books Double Whammy and Native Tongue. From 1987 and 1901. Disney gets a fine mention. Sarcastic and over the top barbed scenarios.
Think of how much DeSantis must be hated for this to happen. This is the point my wife brought up which was that for this to happen everybody on the old board who got fired literally took this with them as they walked out the door and that no point lost their cool to tell them the truth in the f off sense. They literally waited and waited and got new jobs until this came out today. I believe in revenge but I don't know how I would keep something quiet for months at a time for it to be served deliciously ice cold.
I thought that too but according to the tweet above it does specify living as of the date of the declaration.
They also apparently filed it where it needed to be filed and posted it where it needed to be posted and no one noticed.
More bad news for the Ronboi elitez Imagine if he had to pull out before he even declared Fox News Poll: Trump’s lead grows in GOP primary race, now over 50% support https://t.co/8pifOdybhx #FoxNews— Jonathan Swan (@jonathanvswan) March 30, 2023
Once again, who are these "elites" for Ron DeSantis? You mentioned donors before but how do you know they are "Ronbois"? Have any prominent Republicans publicly stated they support him? Wikipedia has a list of endorsements, but they don't exactly seem like "elites" to me. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Ron_DeSantis_2024_presidential_campaign_primary_endorsements
They arent gonna say anything for fear of upsetting MAGA God-King. But the De Vos family, Elmo, Kochs and etc sure don't think Trump can win again. Even Murdoch was having Fox people play softball with him and visit a diner in Florida to try and do a shadow campaign to tip the needle but the people under the stairs want what their hearts want.
I haven't read Hiaasen in a while, but those early novels were* fantastic. *Not making a value judgement of his more recent work; I just haven't read them.
Hiaasen has the best quotes about Florida. "The Florida in my novels is not as seedy as the real Florida. It’s hard to stay ahead of the curve. Every time I write a scene that I think is the sickest thing I have ever dreamed up, it is surpassed by something that happens in real life.” "I still do a weekly opinion column for the Miami Herald, and it's like shooting fish in a barrel. Rotten fish."
That is sort of my point. Jitty makes these declarative statements about Republican elites being for DeSantis (and he might be right), but as you point out, they are staying quiet. That's the disconnect I see, hence my request for evidence. I agree most big money/big influence Republicans have soured on Tr*mp, but I have not seen any come out for DeSantis. And, frankly, that makes sense at this point. As for DeSantis, my belief is that he is simply biding his time. No need to declare 17 months in advance. Make snide comments, wait and see if Tr*mp goes down. If so, he parachutes in and runs to "save" the party. THEN, I suspect all the party "elites" will be there for him (or any Republican candidate).
That is really unfair. But for Trump, Ron DeSantis would be working in a pizza place (according to Trump). Caine OWNED pizza places (if Godfather's Pizza is even pizza).
I know the GOP isn't that bright. But what on Earth did you expect doing low rate culture war stunts against a company with a $175 billion market cap? a company that owns various properties (Popular ones at that), that runs theme parks in the US, Europe, and Asia, and also owns the biggest sports network in the US, if not the world. And on top of that, has had a long running popularity that DeSantis himself got married at one of their theme parks. It's hilarious for so many reasons, mainly because the new board didn't have the idea to sit at any meetings. And on top of that, you had to suspect Disney would've come up with something, anything, that would've bitten back. This is just hilarious. Especially with the English royalty thing.
