Happy about Hikaru Naomoto being back (we do need her, especially for set pieces); not particularly happy about Mina Tanaka, but, oh, well, that's what we have forward, I suppose. :cautious: Frankly, Yuika Sugasawa is not necessarily something to write home about, these days, but I guess I'd rather call her over Tanaka.

Saki Kumagai and Moeka Minami try today to qualify for an UEFA WCL semi-final. :ninja:

Minami is the first of the two to walk on the pitch in a few minutes, but she has the more difficult task:

And just like that this seasons UWCL is over for the Japanese players. AS Roma were decent considering their opponents. Bayern on the other hand…very very poor performance.

Kumagai had good defensive moments in her own penalty box but she did let her mark(blackstenius) get away to score Arsenal’s second goal and she made many mistakes trying to pass out from the back. Just a game to forget for Bayern.

I’ve never seen Arsenal high press like they did today but if this was how Eidevall wanted Arsenal to play all along I understand why Mana was not played at all.

She looks like one of the most complete and accomplished players we have in our NT: of course I prefer to see her play in an advanced role in Nadeshiko Japan, and not as a holding midfielder as in City, but I agree with her when she says that she now has a wider set of skills that will help her in any part of the pitch.

Some things to consider: it took a lot of effort from Bayern to better Wolfsburg on the weekend... while Arsenal had a cakewalk against Tottenham. Quite another thing is that Straus did little to resolve problems from the first match in Munich.
Arsenal pressed hard and played the hard ball - a win was the prize, two injuried players was the cost. I doubt Vera Pauw and Irish team will stay silient on Eidevall tactics if Katie McCabe will miss WWC.

To some extent I'm glad that UWCL adventure has already ended for Kumagai and Minami. Less pressure, less physical and mental strain for them and less chances to get injuried just before WWC. Both players can foucus now only on competition for domestic title - where both Bayern and Roma are alrady frontrunners.

Much improved from Ehime...several periods of sustained attacking play but sadly no goal...Nagoya let them off the hook in the second half by not pressing as high as they did in the first 45 mins though...sad when an away goalless draw feels like something of a victory but it's the first point of the season so it does.

Quite happy that Manaka Matsubuko scored a winner.

Is Haruka Hamada back from some kind of long injury? :cautious: I didn't remember her scoring for Nojima before: heck, I basically didn't remember hearing from her since the glorious days at Vegalta!

Also, it's interesting that Kumi Yokoyoma, who's back at Belle in Division 2 is also back at scoring. :)

Two teams that play out from the back was never going to be high scoring. Nagoya played the better first half and had 3 good chances in the first half but poor finishing let them down. Much better play by Ehime in the second half with Kubota Haruka #9 coming on. She had a couple of good chances and I'd say their star player for this match. From 70 to 75 minutes of play you couldn't really see either team scoring. You'd think with Kubota Haruka and Matsumoto Sonoka just behind Tago Natsumi, they'd want to play a few more long balls up to them.

She has said she's going to aim for 20 goals this season. 17 games still to play, 19 goals to get. It's doable. I wish her luck .

Unfortunately I didn't get to watch the livestream and Kibi haven't uploaded the game. Seems you watch it live or not at all on their channel :(.

This was a fairly even game. Nagano were a bit unlucky to lose to be honest. Nagano's Kimotsuki was respnsible for both goals. She made a mistimed jump for a header, which resulted in a penalty and then completely missed the ball for Hamada's goal. She had actually played very well up until the penalty. She also was playing at right back, but playing as a sweeper. It was kind of interesting watching her play.

I thought the penalty was pretty soft and would prefer it not to be given. Nagano looked way more dangerous going forward, but they let themselves down in front of goal. Nojima played well in midfield at times, but barely had any shots on goal. They were wondefully creative at times, but there was very little penetration into Ngano's final third. They are going to have to look at it, because something is not working. I think it is something they will have to fix over summer.

Nagano's Kotono Sakakibara continues to go up in my estimation. If she played for Beleza I imagine we would be hearing a lot more about her. She is a very good young player with a lot of potential; again she is another very good young player on the left.

I will take the win, but Nojima were not very convincing.

That's sad, since she's a player I like a lot. I am happy that you say that she anyway played well, apart from the actions of the two goals.

Yes, Haruka Hamada was out for almost the whole 2021-2022 season due to a knee injury and played only a few games for Sendai.

Thanks! So I was remembering correctly.

Very sad for her having been out for so long: she had even had a short breakthrough in Senior NT around the time she got injured.
