TBF, deadline day shows sort of lend themselves to streaming given their undetermined length and appeal that is limited to the hardest of hard-core fans.

Today yet another example of why streaming has some catching up to do (literally)...

I went to start the NBC app on my iPad right before their ARS-EVE pre-match coverage was starting and the app asked me if I would update. There was no option to say "no" so I had to do that, chewing up a few mins. Then the new app finally loaded, I had to re-initialize it with my cable subscription creds and I'm not sure if it retained my previous settings/tweaks.

The GUI is quite different. Couldn't find the old Premier League hub icon which was my goto before. Hopefully they haven't done away with that. Also didn't they used to have a "Go Live" button that was useful to catch up or to know if you are behind. I don't see that now.

Finally found the USA show/game I wanted to watch, only to find that it's a full 45 secs behind USA channel on my TV. I feel like it didn't used to be that far behind but even if it was, can't they do better than that somehow? When you're watching sports and maybe doing social media or texting at the same time 45 seconds is an eternity and leads to lots of spoilers from other sources.

As I said, still some catching up to do, in more than one sense.

Well, again today I went to switch from watching a game on my TV to my iPad and was reminded of the above issues. Streamers like NBC need desperately to make more PROGRESS towards matching what the old TV/DVR model offered, rather than regressing. Sadly with their new NBCSports app they seem to have done the latter. 45 secs behind my TV, which is already a few seconds behind live because of my DVR's buffer. And the removal/lack of RWD/FFD/Live buttons is completely inexcusable IMO. Not to mention a GUI that strikes me as harder/slower to navigate.

    Here's picture proof:

And today my just updated NBCSports app on my iPad is showing "Live" and yet is a full 53 seconds behind USA channel on my TV which is itself buffered a few seconds by my DVR. Wow, NBC is actually going backwards with their streaming app. 53+ seconds behind real live?!!!

Honest question: what's the smallest gap you've ever seen between cable TV and any streaming service?

Several years ago I recall 5secs +\- being pretty common. But my memory is far from perfect so it would be interesting to hear what others say.

53 seconds takes me back to 6Mbps internet back in the days when streaming audio would have been considered new-ish.

Up to a minute is not abnormal. I typically see 15-60 seconds behind Comcast box for various streamers, and it's not even the same delay by the same streamer as I've seen ESPN+ be all over the place.
I was at a hockey game a few months ago and just for giggles I logged on my phone and saw the stream was 70 seconds behind live action.
I don't have a comprehensive database because of course, if I'm watching on tv, I'm probably not watching on my phone and vice versa, but I do check occasionally if I'm doing things around the house.

If the new streaming landscape is perfect for live sports, as we are made to believe it is, then they REALLY need to tighten up that lag time. A LOT.

Yeah, this is definitely an issue. Happens quite often that, without thinking, I open my FotMob app while watching a game just to get information on the match I'm watching (game stats, player profiles, etc.). And then I get spoiled because the app is more live than the stream I'm watching.

The streaming era also pretty much killed watching matches at pubs for me. I used to pop out of work for a long lunch to watch Champions League matches, but now few pubs have the games because they are stuck in the TV era. Those that do have streaming accounts (and bartenders that actually know how to work it  ) are not ideal either because imagine watching a game that's 45-60 seconds delayed with 50 other people around you.

    Here's something very odd.

    It's 7:20pm ET on 4/5.

My NBC affiliate is scheduled for local programming, which means local news at 7 and Inside Edition at 7:30. This is what is on my U-Verse TV.

Hulu's NBC for me is airing EPL "Goals of the Season 2017/18."

    This is most odd indeed.

I just saw that Peacock will have a US-based preseason EPL tournament this summer.

(I wouldn't be surprised if this is already known.)

For all you cord cutters out there, I’ve noticed that TeleXitos has been showing many of the Universo Premiership matches the last couple of weeks.

Normally on Saturdays the matches that are shown in English on USA are the ones shown on Universo. You need a cable sub for both channels.

The past couple of weeks I’ve noticed the Universo feed showing up on TeleXitos. TeleXitos is normally one of the digital OTA subchannels associated with Telemundo.

Been using the NBCSports app for years and generally found it pretty decent. EXCEPT for their recent redesign, which includes this lovely little feature that I just discovered today...

Today when I paused the live match stream, instead of staying paused at that spot indefinitely or at least for quite a while, it does this weird thing where it jumps ahead about every 30 secs. It continues to only show a still image, but it keeps updating that still every 30-40 secs.

So, how many users would really desire this sort of behavior when they pause the game, show or movie they're watching???

One of the problems we have here is that the TeleExitos OTA broadcast doesn’t have the same HD quality as Telemundo or NBC.

A buddy of mine in tv says many owners of the digital subchannels use inferior hardware for those secondary channels. But it is all up to whatever the local affiliate is running.

Indeed. Six Premier League teams are playing 3 matches each up and down the US east coast over a 9-day period in the second half of July. Looks like two of the matches in each round are part of double headers, while the other one is a standalone game. Then this weekend they didn't have any of the matches.

It looks like they are showing the Universo matches Wed-Thurs--skipping the Leicester City vs. Everton match on Monday.

On Sunday May 6, TeléXitos will show both Man City vs Leeds United and Liverpool vs Brentford.

If anyone is look for a code for Peacock Premium (with commercials), try this one. It's normally $50 for a year, but this knocks it down to $20.

    N2TEWDZZ

I believe you can add the commercial-free upgrade on and it still saves a small bit of money.

Hmm. I currently pay $5/mo for Premium, which equates to $60/yr. Since the $50 annual rate isn't much savings I stuck with monthly.

Question is whether I could stick with my current login profile and change from monthly Premium to annual Premium using your code. Any idea if that's possible? Since this account is already hooked up to many devices in my family, I'd rather not have to start from scratch and have to redo all those devices, some of which I don't control.

I doubt it. I started out on an annual discount and tried to go monthly (monthly payments make budgeting easier for me than big chunks coming out once a year) when full price kicked in, but couldn't change my payment frequency.
