    City wouldn't even consider that.

Maybe, but if we give them someone of interest plus cash, that might change things. In any case, a lot will depend on how he settles and progresses at Bayern.

The whole Japan team impressed me at the WC. If only they shot the ball when they took their pens.

Anyone that watches Serie A familiar with this Hojlund kid? 20 year old danish international playing for Atalanta. Has a goal involvement every 90 minutes for club and scored a hat trick this week in his first start for Denmark.

Apparently he’s a pretty public United fan and sees us as his dream club. Just from watching videos he seems like an ETH type of player. Not sure if he’s good enough but would be a decent plan B to whatever striker we buy this summer.

Atalanta are a very attack minded side in general, so they're forwards tend to perform better in Serie A as a result. He's big, strong, and runs very fast. Great on the press. Came to life really after the WC. In the games I've seen him, though, he didn't leave a big impression on me. He was rather quiet and in those Atalanta as a whole were too.

I never put stock on the United fan/dream club nonsense. It never leads to much.

Jon Obi Mikel scarred me for life, tbh.

sounds about right. it does feel like Atlanta is stuck in a rut though. one tier right below where they want to be.

if they had the money things might be different

I still think they have a chance of finishing top four, but they have to find form again. They have a history of producing top talent (Scirea) and of helping along some great coaches (Lippi), so they have had a good operation going back decades.

Maybe they were held back for so long only because they operated within their means, but at the same time that's why they're getting more successful now. The top Italian clubs can't attract top players like before and all the clubs in Italy have to operate like they do now.

Thanks for the feedback on Hojlund. From the little I’ve seen, he looks decent but unspectacular. I’d still have him as a #2 over WW or Martial. Another good option as the #2 would be Evan Ferguson.

if we can’t land one of the big names like Osimhen or Kane, what is everyone’s thoughts on bringing in two less proven options to fight it out for the spot? Something like Sesko and Ferguson.

Højlund with now 5 goals in only 2 games for Denmark in the past two Euro qualifiers this last week, is the kind of striker who always seem to be in the right place at the right time, but also notice his speed (according to his present coach he runs 100 meters in under 11 seconds with ease), physical strength and great moves and turns despite of his very young age. When listening to him talk after a game, he also sound more like a highly ambitious and mature 25 year old than just a young talent. He was not considered for the Danish NT last year, but is now all of a sudden the most secure first choice in the Denmark starting 11 along with Eriksen and Barcelona key player Andreas Christensen .

What are everyones thoughts on Evan Ferguson? I really like what I see so far. Not in terms of being ready to lead he line here, but would be a perfect understudy if we bring in someone like Kane.

My worries would be that Ferguson and Kane would be most of our transfer budget, and that Kane would want to dominate playing time for the next couple seasons when actually Ferguson is further along than that and still needs chunky minutes to develop. We’re banking on Kane getting injuries or needing rest, but I think if he’s fit he demands to play and Ten Hag is reluctant to drop him.

Personally I’d go for someone more rotational (and way cheaper) than Kane. Like a Toney - someone 27-30 of that calibre where Ferguson can easily be “1st choice” but only when it’s right for him, and then we can take him out the spotlight if he needs it.

I’m not that worried about CFs not being ready, or being unproven etc. Ferguson is already comfortably better than what we have in front of goal, as is Hojlund, and both will work hard defensively. If we expect them to thrive without us improving on the ball then we’ve got bigger problems.

Interesting to hear on TalkSport where quite a few callers .. ManU fans and Spurs supporters BOTH not convinced that Kane will be a massive success at ManU as he goes missing in the real big / important games ..

Potential stud. I'd take him in a heart beat.

I'd always rather get two 20 year old strikers than one big expensive 30 year old. Let them battle it out. I'd also rather that than getting Wout as a backup. Pay a little more and get a larger potential ROI. And if they're young/cheap enough you shouldn't have to resell for too large reduced price.

Agree he looks promising - seems to tick some key boxes; speed / mobility, strength, both feet, offers something in the air, first touch ok (still have Lukaku ptsd ;)) etc.

Plus we have a manager who is able to work with youth and can get his teams to perform if needs be without top top strikers (as long as he is at least given some). We are also starting from a very low bar in terms of our recent #9 productivity.

Also agree that as things stand we dont want to blow our budget on an older striker like Kane and leave EtH without striker depth and unable to improve other areas. So much to do this summer in many positions.

Like all things in this thread, will depend on overall budget which depends on what happens with ownership.

Ideally we get the top striker we need first and the other priority areas and then hopefully (having shipped some) there is some money left over to get a young striker to give the depth we need.

I like Toney, but no club is touching him with the betting charges hanging over his head. He could be hit with a long term suspension any moment.

I’d be all for that too but I doubt the club goes that route. Some combo of Ferguson/Retegui/Sesko/Hojlund for around 100 mil vs Osimhen/WW for 130 mil.

Retegui keeps having his story changed about his Italian ancestry. One minute I read his Italian ancestry is through one of his grandfathers, then grandmother... He might be as Italian as Tony Cascarino was Irish.

I’d rather we don’t spend 100 mil on a striker. But if we do, it should only be for Kane. IMO he’s a sure thing. And for that price, I’d prefer a sure thing over some like like Osimhen with potentially better long term value but much higher risk.

It doesn’t have to be him, but that sort of player who, if they were the 1st choice wouldn’t let us down, and if they were 2nd choice they’d be happy to fight for a place.

It’s mad that not only is this ban hanging over him but he’s still getting picked in England squads too. Not sure what message the FA are trying to communicate about the offence with this.

FWIW if we knew the length of the ban and it wasn’t insane, I’d use it to bring the price down and still make a bid. Ferguson and Rashford for a few months is fine imo. We won’t be winning the title next season, the main aim should be further improving our playing style for a decent push the season after.
