I looked it up, and the first website in my Googling says that the average low for May is 82 F and the average high is 103 F. For June, it's 86 F and 108 F, respectively. So, even if they play at night, it seems like the best case scenario is mid-80s.
Amazing how the supposed care about human rights gets thrown out the window when it pertains to countries that yield a lot of economic power, e.g.: Israel, US, Saudi Arabia. Almost as if that was always the actual guiding principle, not human rights. Either treat these as footballing competitions, and support everyone's inclusion, as I do. Or don't, accept them as political ones, which in turn justifies selective exclusions, like Russia, Israel, United States, Saudi Arabia, etc.
I agree to support everyone's inclusion. If we try to decide who gets barred and who doesn't we run into subjective assessments. How bad does the supposed human rights infractions have to be and who gets to decide that?
Yep, you called it. FIFA has pulled the U-20 World Cup from Indonesia. The intention is to find a new host asap while keeping the same dates - starting on May 20.— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) March 29, 2023
Argentina journalists are making a lot of noise to host this. You can see why, it would allow their U-20 team to play after they failed in qualifying and it would take advantage of the momentum of their national team winning the WC. But I don't know. The country has 100% inflation is in the middle of a terrible economic crisis. FIFA might want to find a country with fewer issues. Qatar has an argument as they just hosted the WC three months ago, but it could be way too hot. That is why they justified a winter WC. But now it's okay for the kids. Europe is tough since most of the Euro leagues this year run until late May given the winter WC.
I can think of a country with a lot of stadia and great infrastructure that could host the tournament with very little lag time and has done so for FIFA before.
It could still be Qatar but they would have to reschedule. There's no firm schedule for a YWC so I don't think that's a big deal. It might be Australia as a fellow ASEAN member. Otherwise, there are plenty of candidates in Asia. South Korea hosted just 6 years ago. I don't think for one instant that this cup leaves Asia.
Countries need to raise their hands, right? Anyone besides, apparently, Argentina actually done this?
Australia and New Zealand are prepping to host the Women's World Cup right now. It seems like it would be an easy thing for them to host the U-20 WC right now with all the event infrastructure in place. Peru is getting ready to host the U-17 WC this year too. The USA could do it easily with only modest rule relaxation - and there are a ton of rules. For example, a venue for a FIFA event must not host another game/event within 14 days of the FIFA game/event. There are also plenty of other rules like hotels and training fields within a set distance to the venue. The training facilities must meet specific standards that are high (a high school training field typically wouldn't qualify). Each team has to get its own training facility for exclusive use 14 days before the tournament. No matter who hosts it will need a number of rules relaxed. The USA would need FIFA to allow its venues to also host other events (like MLS games) before and during the U-20 WC. But getting training facilities that meet FIFA standards might need teams to share the same facility.

Would be amazingly inconvenient if Indonesia screwing up hosting this loses Cremaschi to Argentina for the US after all.
I mean.. Javier Mascherano probably isn't going to be in love with his squad that failed to qualify for the U-20 World Cup. Now with a second chance, he'll probably want to make some changes - and Cremaschi was one of the last ones cut from the original team. So, don't discount it
Several of the European players were not permitted to go to the qualifiers. The likes of Garnacho, Soule, Carboni Bros., and Luka Romero were all omitted. Cremaschi was not chosen even with those players being left off the final roster. I would not worry too much.
Yes, but due to the Qatar winter WC, most European seasons this year now extend into late May - after the start of the U-20 World Cup on May 20. The Bundesliga and the Premier League go until May 28, La Liga and Serie A go until June 3, Ligue 1 goes until June 2. what makes you think Argentina will get most of their Euro-based players for the U-20 WC?
Because with FIFA tournaments, players are permitted to go. There is some obliged rule in the guidelines. The qualifiers themselves are considered Conmebol(Or whatever federation a player is in) tournaments. These are not FIFA tournaments.
This is not true.. players are never required to be released by clubs for youth national team duty (FIFA, CONMEBOL, CONCACAF, etc). Interviews with youth coaches typically touch on this. Mikey Varas talked a lot about it in his interview with ASN before camp
I’ve never once seen a player not released by their club player for a FIFA Youth tournament. There have been issues for the Olympics and qualifiers. But for the U20 tournament itself, I’ve never seen that.
Typically because the tournament is in the summer after the Euro season. This year will be different given the timing. Just off the top of my head, Hertha didn’t release John Brooks for the 2013 U-20 WC Reading didn’t release Andrija Novakovich in 2015 for the WC. Molde pulled their release for Ethan Horvath in 2015 at the last minute when he wasn’t the starter. I’m sure there are other examples that aren’t at the top of my head
I looked up a couple of those cases you mentioned and I discovered this. It wasn’t that the club did not release him it was that Brooks was deciding between the US and Germany. NEW YORK- Hertha Berlin defender John Anthony Brooks was considered a potential star addition for the U.S. Under-20 National Team heading into this summer’s Under-20 World Cup, but his delay in making a final decision has led to Brooks being left out of the U.S. team’s plans for the World Cup in Turkey. “Everybody knows we’ve been following Brooks for a couple of years now,” Ramos said. “We’ve been inviting him to camps, he played with us in November, 2011, in a camp we had overseas. Last year, in September I decided to go to Germany and meet with him. He was very good about the meeting. He was very committed to us and the future, but yet, all the camps we’ve called him after he, for whatever reason, couldn’t make it. https://sbisoccer.com/2013/05/brooks-under-world The second player you mentioned. But here is a solution. Since the tournament is moving. Start a couple weeks later when the season is over. Problem solved.
you want to start it a few weeks later? Fine by me. but you gotta take my word for this about release. Clubs can deny releases for U-20 World Cups. I’ve interviewed Varas, Hudson, Tab, and Rongen all about this issue. They’ve told me about the negotiation that it takes, often unsuccessfully. Varas talks about it here http://americansoccernow.com/articl...r-pool-and-challenges-of-the-world-cup-roster
