I think it's going to take longer than five years for the pigeons to.come home to roost on DeSantis. He's just going to have five more years to play to the base. And as a largely untouchable governor, he'll have ample opportunity to strike the right chord to the base.

No one's going to like anyone as.much as the base loves Trump. The guy's a genius.

Well, maybe not genius, more idiot savant. It took one tweet for Trump to put himself back in the driver's seat.

Won't look good to whom? The GOP doesn't have anyone who's truly opposed to anything that's happened to this point.

Else? Jimmy Johnson and (especially) Steve Spurrier were/are not cool. I mean, it's possible to freeze feces; so in that sense, it might be possible for them to be cool. But otherwise, no. Especially not Visor Boy.

Given how pretty much everyone has consistently gotten their analyses of Trump's political prospects repeatedly wrong for over seven years now, I don't see much reason to take predictions like these seriously. Nobody really knows how long we're gonna be stuck with this Epsilon-minus semi-moron in Florida.

What's most amazing about all this DeSantis stuff is it shows how trapped the GOP elites are in their own media bubble. Ron's 9D strategy is that he is Trump without the handcuffs, and a winner where Trump is a loser. But also, because he wants to appeal to ultra MAGAe as well as traditional GOP he can never say anything bad about Trump.

But last week revealed the fallacy. Everyone wants to move on from Trump, but also the entire party is in the thrall of Trump and despite a gilt edged chance to break from him the most that happened was some mild ribbing from Ron. It's like even Ron expects someone else to run against Trump for him. Even the elite & powerful Ronbois like Murdoch didn't dare to take this chance to knife Trump.

Does anyone really believe that the GOP has more than one person running for Prez. C’mon!

I think there is far too much analysis in this area happening right now.

In general, the GOP elites (whoever they are) have little to no control of this dragon until it literally explodes in a fiery ball. The only one who can ride it is Trump.

The only way to take out Trump for them now is to put 1 single candidate up against him in the primary. Only one. And it doesn't even have to be a good one. Just enough to capture the remainder of the established GOP voters not considered his base.

The Trump base is significant enough that any vote splitting in the GOP establishment will allow him to roll on.

It's a cult of personality. Nothing he does will move them on from him.

Trump will eventually die and only then will the Republican party have a real chance of moving on. The best thing that could happen is for Trump to win the nomination again and to lose again to Biden in 2024.

Yeah but how does the plan to get an alternate candidate elected work when all the media etc who supposedly what Ron instead support Trump at a moment of crisis for his campaign?

it's literally the dumbest strategy evah

I'm guessing 2032 after he loses to Harris running for her second term will be his last campaign.

Your mistake is assuming the media have a horse in this race. They don't.

The media want clicks, views, ratings. In my opinion, they go where they are led.

The Trump base happen to be easier to get a media consumption point from than the establishment.

For example, they got a shitty conceived, made and produced recording of the national ********ing athem to number 1 on iTunes.

Again though, it doesn't matter. Those influences cannot ride that dragon.

The only they could stand a chance is too set aside their wallet for a full campaign cycle. All of them, as a collective. But clearly that's not going to happen.

I'll never understand why they don't all embrace him. He has done more for Christianity and conservatism than any president since Andrew Johnson.

Harris isn't even going to win the Dem nom. The only way she gets into the White House is if Biden steps down and lets her backdoor her way to the Presidency.

TFG is going to destroy Meatball Ron.....I will have my popcorn ready for that.

“We did everything for him. I like people that are loyal. When you help somebody, you expect there will be a certain amount of dignity and loyalty. We didn’t get that from Ron. But that’s OK. We’re gonna beat him and beat him very badly.”

    — Donald Trump, in a video attacking Gov. Ron DeSantis.

I still do not understand why the GOP is trying to abandon this guy. He is literally the Messiah, where conservatism and Christianity intersect.

The GOP elites think he can't win - if they thought he could win, they would still be all in.

Fox haven't had Trump on for ages - but in the last days he was back on Hannity.

    They'll fall in line.

He's the only one who CAN win now. The ship of dogwhistling has sailed. What we're dealing with now is blatant conservatism. Blatant.

Well also, if he isn't the nominee, he might take his base home, and then the GOP literally can't win.

So in the trump telling, he is in fact the only one who can win.
