Idgaf about it at all, but I wouldn’t go off the reviews much, unless you trust who is doin’ the reviewin’. There’s a lot of crazy loyalists and culture warriors out there VERY unhappy about Harry.
I probably don't have the time to line that book up. I already have four books sitting on my desk right now.
Wow, flashbacks to my early teen years, my first delvings into SciFi. I must have been 13 or so when I read the Day of the Triffids. That started me picking up everything Wyndham had written. Except Chocky! Don’t know how I’d missed that, although the sixties I’d moved into my 20s with music, girls and military. They made a movie of Triffids, with Howard Keel as the lead. It wasn’t terrible as I recall, I do remember how quickly they wrapped it up though. At 13 I thought books from movies we’re supposed to be more than superficial, how naïve. Same with the Midwich Cuckoo’s. I loved that book. They way it went from a quiet English village to the drama of sci-fi sleeper invaders. They made 2 movies of that, that I’m aware of. (Children then Village of the Damned) Christopher Reeves was in the second I believe. Just as an aside, his son was in my daughters class in Slone St School during her London Sojourn. I’m back! I’m surprised and pleased that Wyndham still gets recognition especially over here. Got to comment on Stephen King and his “adaption!” of Cuckoo’s with his Dome book, and “bloody awful tv series” Just a little close if you ask me but nobody has asked yet. “It must be, I thought, one of the race's most persistent and comforting hallucinations to trust that "it can't happen here" -- that one's own time and place is beyond cataclysm.” ― John Wyndham, The Day of the Triffids Thanks for the flashback.
Hello @usscouse, John Wyndham's works, like "Chocky" and "The Day of the Triffids," have left a lasting impact on many of us. It's fascinating how these books can transport us back to our early reading adventures, especially in the realm of science fiction. As for Stephen King's adaptations, they often stir up interesting discussions. It's a testament to Wyndham's storytelling that his work continues to resonate with readers and even sparks debates about modern adaptations. Hey @SurudRump Thanks for the link, I’m always looking and always trying different genre. I still read every day (when I can) mostly on Kindle now, you can find most books there these days. Although Santa left 5 books under the tree, actually printed on paper. I don’t get into the reading section here as often as I should. Ive found some good reading here. My fav. King book was “On Writing” more of a personal side of him I enjoyed. Cute Puppy. I like the Husky’s, We’ve had a couple of ‘big’ Malamutes. Right now it’s Bandit the Border Collie. Lots of energy and far to smart. Good footballer tho.
