no it's not. people finding the takeaway of not calling up reyna anymore after they just thrashed a team 7-1 is ludicrous
A quick look at the record books: one record broken tonight, most goals scored in an away game. The previous record was 6, achieved twice (6-3 vs Haiti in 1968, 6-0 vs St. Vincent & the Grenadines in 2016). The 6-goal margin also ties the USMNT's record away win (see above).
Successful, attacking players are often not the most well rounded, lovely individuals you ever meet. But you don't walk on the field at Dortmund without elite abilities. Some people don't like Gio; I'd find it easier if they were just honest about it. He was good/ fine today.
Fun game, and a good indication of how much our general talent level has risen, but I hesitate to get too excited about any individuals due to the quality of the competition. I think Pepi is starting to fill his frame out, though.
At the talent level we've reached, when we play minnows, we're supposed to pick them apart without getting out of second gear much. We've rarely done that away from home before. I'll take this over grinding out away results against even the smallest opponents.
With a core that was exceptional. This core is equal to that one and everyone else is a cut or two above that 2002 team. The gap between 23 and 1 isn't so great and the level has never been higher.
Gio is dragging himself. Dude is literally dragging around the field. You return from trying to wreck everyone’s world cup with…THAT?!?!? He didn’t deserve the minutes he got and doesn’t deserve to start in the next one.
He hasn’t learned his lesson. His teammates are going to bat for him again and he’s rewarding them with entitled, effortless slop. If Hudson doesn’t bench him for the next one things could start getting awkward. It just goes to show you that Gio is not ready and is not at the level of his teammates.
I was thinking that all night! Had to be free right? Stayed full all night, while miles off the pitch looking through a hammer throw net!
It was 100% awkward. Body language doesn’t matter much if your head is in the game and you contribute. Unfortunately, Gio was not at the level of his teammates and despite the subpar competition, he was not able to contribute much.
So you think it’s impossible to be critical of his body language without having an agenda of not liking him?
His teammates were not exactly going out of their way to find him. Pulisic blew him off a couple times. So did Aaronson. He will need to win them back.
Body language is tough to gage with him because he has poor posture. He always seems to be hunched over.
he needs yoga, and a session with Dempsey on how to look active. I did think he and Pepi were going to have to get a room after Pepi’s goal. Maybe Gio read this thread.
Gio looked really happy for Pepi… I read that situation as the “group of players with world cup grievances” union.
there is a lunch table for the world cup snubs group. Gio, Pepi etc etc maybe Scally feels that too? Idk.
