This is the thing, we have a player who does fine when called upon. Why should the club let him leave for free and buy someone who may not even work out? We've had a very hard time buying players for that type of role, in attack, defense and midfield. It's better to keep him.

Agreed, Isco is becoming severely underrated around here due to his last years at the club. Before that he was a magician, and no he couldn't only dribble, he could pass, shoot and play some great defense.

This doesn't make sense. Ceballos is not who we need to replace in this squad.

    Ha. Lol. Good one. :D:thumbsup:

An Isco fat joke. Just couldn't help yourself, could ya. Classic.

Anyway I was simply saying that Ceballos may not have a single world class skillset like Isco did with dribbling but that he is a better all around midfielder. Neither of them for a day in their life could even day dream of being able to shoot, cross or pass as good as James but they both management to make it onto the field for a CL final with Madrid.

Right. When he is 3 years in his 5 year deal at age 29/30, it’s going to make so much sense we renewed him.

I’d be open to keeping him for a 3 year deal as long as Modric and Kroos were both retiring, but that’s not happening.

He's a decent squad player, that's important. Just as Nacho has been a reliable option in defense. I'd rather renew Ceballos than buy some player for 50mm who sits on the bench for 3 years and then we loan out while paying his wages. A lot of players don't pan out at this club and most aren't even good enough to be a rotation/additional depth option.

Ceballos, with enough minutes to play and confidence would turn out to be better than Isco IMO. He’s also physical and better at ball recovery.

Luis Enrique certainly did not. I'm happy for Nacho.

Everybody i know that is watching the games is raving about Valverde.

Odegaard is widely considered one of the better players in the Premier League.

Good players are being appreciated no matter the color of their shirt. Ceballos hasn't really done that much to get on that level.

Definitely. Hard to argue against Nacho being a part of the Spanish national team.

Pedri and Gavi winning awards after winning zero titles is funny tho.

Not that those awards matter. But Barca's youth has been overrated for decades now, even though they have produced more Deloufeus than Iniestas.

I like Ceballos but let's be real. He won't touch peak Isco. Peak Isco forced his way as a starter against Bale when he was still good and trying. Peak Isco was deciding ucl matches.

I'd like Ceballos to stay if he wants to be a rotation player but I don't think he will like that role here so maybe he can go be a starter on a lesser club. Nothing wrong with that.

We are arguing about keeping someone as a squad player. Seriously. No one is saying he should be starting midfield but having someone like him in the squad that can be relied upon when needed is crucial to overall success, especially in the league. This renewal makes more sense to me, especially considering we are going to lose some midfielders next season.

That depends on whether he sees himself as a squad player long term because we've been through that before, his little jabs about Zidane here and there because he wasn't playing.

People complain about Carlo, but Zidane was as stubborn as can be.

Reinevented Lucas Vasquez as a RB gave new life to a dead end career along with a whole new contract renewal only for it to play out after a few painfully obvious months what a terrible decision it was.

Nothing prevents him from becoming a regular if he demonstrates the consistency and output needed. I think he will continue improving in the future. He was always technically and physically of very high quality, but he could improve in the mental and tactical part: concentration, positioning, decision making... This comes with experience and hes showing very promising signs of getting better in all that.
