I'm not sure. They're u17s right now so their time is coming soon if they'll make Quakes 2. I like Nguyen the most out of the group. But as for being MLS level eventually I have my serious doubts. Walls still can't make the active roster.

On the topic of misevaluating our youth players, it seems giving away Drake Callendar for peanuts was a huge mistake given we have two questionable goalies and one was a half million to bring in.

Producing lots of talent is the first step, but then you have to
    - properly evaluate that talent for the short and long term
    - manage that talent across various rosters
    - properly develop that talent so it reaches its potential
    - if you're going to lose some guys because there aren't enough spots, get the right value back for them instead of losing them for nothing or pennies on the dollar
    - eventually sell guys to Europe for lots of money and build a pipeline

As of now it looks like the Quakes have only just started to get the "produce talent" part, and still need to work on pretty much everything else.

Yeah it is not looking good right now. I wonder if we have buy back and/or sell on clauses on any of these guys at least.

Interesting that no Quake players were chosen for the recent U-19 and U-20 USMNT camps and competitions. Drew Murray was selected for the U-19s (but not Ethan Kohler). Surprised by Emi Ochoa missing both. Perhaps the Quakes decided not to release Ochoa and Cowell (plus Niko out injured).

I was told that U-17 players Mendoza and Nicolson have been added to the Quakes ii roster. Hopefully by next week that roster will be complete and the team will release it publicly before the first game.

More and more potential MLS homegrowns are going to USL instead so they can leave for Europe at age 18, the Jonathan Gomez (FC Dallas -> Louisville City) / Kobi Henry (Inter Miami -> Orange County) route...

Fidel Barajas (San Jose -> Charleston)
Matthew Corcoran (FC Dallas -> Birmingham)
Ethan Kohler (San Jose -> Oakland)
Drew Murray (San Jose -> Oakland)
    Nathan Worth (NYRB -> Tulsa)

As I said before.. thats exactly what his plan was the whole time, he also wants to go play in Mexico as soon as possible. He doesn't give 2 grand shits and a cow clam of crap about a 'future' here. The #FutureQuakesKeeper is the #FutureQuakesLoss

Going into final match day for group play at Adidas Cup the U-15s lead their group and the U-17s are in second. Hopefully they can both find a way to make the knockout rounds.

Congratulations to the Earthquakes U-15s for winning their group and advancing to the knockout round. Brackets haven’t been set yet. The Quakes’ group included Club Bolivar, NYCFC and Colorado.

Paywall article for those that have Athletic subscription.

    https://theathletic.com/4375028/2023/04/03/mls-homegrown-tampering-bernardeschi-apple-tv/

Apparently there has been rampant cheating on the homegrown territory rules and teams have been fined (but the league keeps in out of the media). The Philadelphia Union was named as one of the biggest cheating clubs but I suspect the Quakes are likely one of the teams complaining about the cheating instead of a culprit. For instance, Owen Anderson going to RSL struck me as tampering. MLS is supposedly forcing GAM transfer fees between teams for homegrown rights in some cases.

I wish we were one of the teams "cheating" instead of complaining about the "cheating"...

I'm not. It means that we have a good pipeline of HG candidate players naturally, and that we don't have to resort to cheating.

That’s just a supposition on my part. We could be breaking the rules. The early signing of Cade Cowell certainly looked suspect. I think the Quakes may have gotten slapped for that and they tightened up how they operate, I do know that Leitch has made sure that out of area recruits moved to soccer house and met the rules stating that players lived within the training ground perimeters. I respect that the Quakes committed to focusing on identifying and developing local talent. You look at the make up of Quakes2 and it’s virtually all Bay Area guys. Even Mategan is from Sacramento.
