Zendejas officially cap tied His goal: That man's left foot 🤌 pic.twitter.com/o2tOyYIgMp— U.S. Soccer Men's National Team (@USMNT) March 25, 2023 Roldan catching strays What’s crazy is it took Alejandro Zendejas eight minutes to do something Cristian Roldan hasn’t been able to do in 32 caps. #usmnt— Alex Calabrese (@amcalabrese12) March 25, 2023
What’s good and what’s alarming is that Zendejas was a night and day improvement over a lazy, complacent, and non-existent Reyna. If Reyna’s name wasn’t Reyna. And he was just some scrub. We would never ask to see him again. He’s got to pull his head out of his ass. Meanwhile, Zendejas should feel like he’s pulled ahead in the pecking order.
He showed up. That guy almost instantly solves the final third problems we had in qualifying last go-round.
The shot was quality. Quick thinking, good touch and a rip with great placement. Should have scored a second but I guess the keeper was due a save. otherwise, we really just can’t tell anything given how poor the competition was. Would like to see him playing more, and see what he could do with his team against good competition.
Not going to judge him in any way on that game, because the opponent was dreadful. Somebody like Paul Arriola could have looked good against that opponent too. Can't wait to see more against a higher level of competition. Thanks Mexico. .................also thanks against to FC Dallas.
Lesser players could have looked good last night. But they still would have looked like lesser players. This guy is very talented. It remains to be seen if he has everything else it’ll take to stand out for the USMNT.
I like him. I'm just not going to make any conclusions based on last night. At all...................about anybody.
Zendejas will probably never be an auto-starter but what a club to have in the bag for the US. This guy is all attack, attack, attack, I love it. The US has so few of these kind of danger men to choose from.
His skill is undeniable. Great first touch, good ball control, and most importantly for the us, a fantastic shot. The question mark will be if he can create and/or find space against better teams. It's absolutely a plus he can hit that wide open shot, but there are opponents where he won't get that wide open shot. That's all. I'm not writing off the positive, though, either. If he can create space against better teams, his ability to execute is going to instantly make him one of our best players offensively.
fact check: true "The United States is better than Mexico, we are one step above": Alejandro Zendejas "Estados Unidos es mejor que México, estamos un escalón arriba": Alejandro Zendejashttps://t.co/UfvLHsYHEv pic.twitter.com/PD8qA3DVRb— MedioTiempo (@mediotiempo) March 26, 2023
I like this quote. Sure, we don‘t know exactly what he is yet, but do what you can and perform when you can. I think this gets lost with regards to the whole team against Grenada. They actually played and did what US fans have been bitching about for decade after decade. Even in wins by decent scores, the way we played, several players were always eh, team shape eh, movement, positioning and spacing so so. Technical skills could be questionable for a quite a few. This was a professional win, secured by true pros, with experience, technically and positionally sound. The complaint and whines after this one were even different. No real game complaints outside of quibbles. Just this team sucked so who cares. Progress in and of itself. A well know coach once told me that true progress can be measured by the whines of the most overtly critical, and what they are. I have come to agree. Zendejas did the job, and do it better next time. There is true comp out there. Floor is rising.
I would think Zendejas will be eligible for the April usmnt vs Mexico game… since Mexico will be using ligamx players… I certainly hope he is.
If Zendejas thought the tackles against Grenada were rough, he should see what the FMF is gonna do. I don't know why exactly he felt the need to make those comments about Mexico. Even if its true at the moment............why? The wheel of fortune turns when it comes to USMNT versus FMF. Right now the USMNT is up after winning the Gold Cup and Nations League. I get the sense we're in for a humbling in April, and honestly that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.
Perhaps. Mexico should have a much higher proportion of its "A" roster available since they are so heavy on LigaMX players these days. I'll have to take a look at what our respective rosters look like before getting a feel for how I think it will go. I have no idea what MLS clubs are going to be willing to do. I'm not generally too worried though, Mexico has looked quite uninspiring for a long time.
