When I posted it was 1-0 to RBNY. Now I don't want to watch highlights!

Here to highlights from last week where Coronel's unexpected error was the difference. Sucks to lose to ATL especially like that. We had so many chances and our finishing is not good enough

    Sorry about that.
Was at the game and two things. The offense is just pathetic. It looks like a team full of defensive midfielders trying to play offense. The utter lack of creativity in making plays or opportunities is hard to watch. At least the new forwards attack and take shots. Eventually, hopefully, they’ll start going in. It’s been a constant under Struber and he has to take the blame. We are falling behind little by little to the rest of the league.
We can’t keep relying on solid defensive efforts to try and win 1-0 games.

As for the incident, we’ll just have to wait and see what any investigation comes up with and go from there.

Vanzeir must know his MLS career is over already.
Even if NYRB does not dissolve his contract and he escapes with merely a lengthy suspension, he will forever be the guy who used a racial slur in his first start for the club.

Has anything been mentioned about what exactly he said? There is nothing but vague nonsense in the Flemish press in that regard.

I from what I gather...it was directed at the referee as being a N-lover...

"The racist remark was said. I do not believe it was to me," Ebobisse said in a post-game press conference.
"Also important to note that racial epithets, language, cannot be hurled in any direction — whether it was to a Black player or not — because that would open any number of doors themselves," Ebobisse added.

Okay, the full extent of any of the Flemish reports on it has been that Vanzeir's camp has admitted to a racial slur being used but denied that it was the N-word.

Probably would be best for all involved if the details were actually revealed.

Having just seen the video where he punched a Nigerian defender in the face in an off the ball incident in Belgium, I don't really care what he said...I am just happy he is gone.

That action has to void the contract, right? Cancel it and go find another striker.

MLS also imposed an undisclosed fine. Vanzeir is required to participate in league-mandated training and education sessions.
Vanzeir is prohibited from participating in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, MLS Next Pro games, and exhibition matches until the suspension is completed.
Vanzeir has stepped away from the club until further notice, New York announced Tuesday.

    So more Barlow?

Like our front 4 should be

    Burke
    Morgan Luqui Fernandez

Hopefully that is enough to get us going.

I've been traveling/busy for the last 2 weeks so I've just been able to catch up on NYRB, using the clunky, incomplete Apple TV highlights with score-spoilers which are damn near impossible to ignore, especially in their web browser GUI which I had to use. But I digress.

Aye yai yai! I think this thread should be renamed to "2023 Season - This is Our Sh1tshow Lads!"

At ATL it seemed like we played OK but a howler from Coronel cost us 1pt. So far, he's not quite the same Carlos as we've seen in the last 2 years. And I asked myself once again "why is Vanzeir not starting??"

Vs SJ, he finally got his start, which I was pleased to see. I got through the highlights and the 1pt we "earned"... actually we might've been lucky it wasn't 0pts. But FT came at like 110' or something and the highlights didn't reveal any reason for such added time.

So then I googled and found out about what Vanzeir did. Wow, what a great signing! Who does our scouting these days? Back-to-back wastes of DP strikers!

OK, maybe the Belgian can redeem himself footballistically, but do we really want a racist on our team, or at least someone who uses racial epithets?

As I was kinda saying up top, I think we're probably goinna have to radically adjust our expectations for NYRB in 2023. Sad.

p.s. Struber also is suspect for allowing Vanzeir to play on for so long.

Well Said Banks! I don't know how you come back from this. As black man I am stunned. I actually expected this from Klimala not Vanzier. Strubler was also disappointing like yank him immediately for the love of God.

Tough to root for this team. But someyhing beyond written apology is needed

I was surprised at how lenient MLS was. I thought his best case scenario was missing most of the season. Six games is a slap on the wrist by comparison.

6 games is light. I would have done anywhere from a third to half of season's worth of games.
