I have a feeling we're going to get some input from Sirk and Matt Bernhardt this week about the historical context of what we did tonight.
Well. Well. Well. That was fun & unexpected. Atlanta was missing more guys than we were, but still. We were rampant. Dominant. Morris & Matan in particular. Vallecilla looked good. A brace for Ramirez. Quinton. Sands. JRR. Wonderful performance.
Meanwhile, in Charlotte… Poor backpass led to a Pink Cows goal; home team levels it; flurry of chances late in the second half but poor finishing; match ends in a draw. Where have I seen this before—repeatedly last season? Oh, wait…. Maybe @chr1st is right….
First Crew goals for every Crew goalscorer tonight. Morris, Ramirez, Quinton, Russel-Rowe, Arfsten. That record is gonna stand for a LONG time. To quote The Who: The Kids Are Alright.
I've been doing some research, without really knowing where the quickest place to find this would be, but so far, here's what I've got: The Crew have never scored seven in a match before. There was a list of games where a team scored seven, and the Crew weren't on it. I do remember a game against Tampa Bay back in the day where we put up five. I think it was the game where Carlos Valderrama got sent off for spitting on John Harkes. Oddly, I couldn't find a report for that specific game; I honestly can't remember if that game ended 5-0 or 5-1. I can't remember any other times we put up five, let alone tonight's six.
There have to be better towns for you to visit, better teams to curse than Charlotte. Cincy is a short drive.
I was at that match where Valderrama spit on Harkes. I think that was the one where Dante bagged a Hattie. Could be wrong but that was in my memory. It was one of my first matches.
Atlanta with the 0.09 xG, haha. "Guys, go out there and give me that 1/10 of a goal, I know you have it in you!"
A-ha! According to @Transfermarkt, #Crew96 tied the team’s best win tonight with 2001 against the Tampa Bay Mutiny and 1998 against the New England Revolution.— Patrick Murphy (@_Pat_Murphy) March 26, 2023 This sent me in the right direction, and that game against the Mutiny finished 6-1. And we beat the Revs 6-1 way back in 1998. So we've done this scoreline twice before.
That's 6️⃣ for #Crew96Max Arfsten scores on his MLS debut! pic.twitter.com/Wa3n880usz— Major League Soccer (@MLS) March 26, 2023 Will Sands making it happen. Cucho making them pay 🤑#Crew96 | 2-1 pic.twitter.com/kysjvQfmCK— The Crew (@ColumbusCrew) August 22, 2022
Behind four first-time MLS goal scorers, the @ColumbusCrew scored six goals in a match for the fourth time in club history and the first since October 26, 2003. pic.twitter.com/0YM3opDAJz— MLS Communications (@MLS_PR) March 26, 2023
Cue the graphics department @KHT_Crew and @SLSHOT01: Re-creation of the Who rocumentary poster with the goal scorers snuggled under a Crew banner.
I remember that game so vividly. We were discussing that on the walk out, right @Kryptonite? I am going to leave this photo here because that experience was unreal. You can eye spy a couple fellow Bigsoccer posters in there. And probably a couple future ones.
