It definitely can, but he's one of our best at evading pressure while on the ball and his distribution is a huge weapon to punish teams that press really high. The issue is we gotta have runners around him and ideally the midfielders we have that play with him can break with the ball from midfield. If we still run out Uribe/Lerma who can't break with the ball from midfield and can't beat a press in possession we're gonna continue to be sitting ducks to pressing teams. Diaz/James/Sini are going to be a nightmare to press when paired together, we just need to sort out at least 1-2 more midfielders who can carry the running in midfield to shield James weaknesses and allow him to dictate on the ball.
Exactly. Play him in a system that takes advantage of him, and he is still very valuable. Even without those ideal speedy players, he is still producing. James is not the problem. That said, for a long time this was the argument about Falcao until recently. He was our best finisher ever, but he also became extremely limited physically around 7 years ago. Unfortunately, we were only able to field the right guys around him once or twice (vs Poland in 18 comes to mind). I bring that up because, as we're seeing right now, we often don't have the necessary people ready to go at the same time. Key players get injured, younger players have to establish themselves, the veterans (like James himself) have become limited in their strengths. Because of that, I don't think Lorenzo should plan his ideal lineup with James in it. Hell, James himself is likely to get injured at any minute. At the same time, I dislike how Colombian fans are basically becoming like Everton fans. Turning on a guy who produces more than most of your team instead of the bums who produce nothing just because they run harder for 90s minutes.
completely agree here. James can still be effective but he is so injury prone that to rely on James would be simply irresponsible. Feel the same about Mina, even if he gets back to fitness. Just hoping Lorenzo can bring some balance to the full match and not just 15 minutes of our best futbol. The last 3 coaches have had similar experiences. Let's see how we look vs Japan. Siri, Diaz, Barrios and Lerma will help our options.
James may not be the problem but I still think JuanFer in the Paraguay match made better decisions and passed the ball better than what James did yesterday in the first half. Granted, It was one of Quinterito's best matches I have seen him do in a while. James is his own worst enemy because we have seen what he can do in the past and now just seemed to be too slow to pull the trigger and too slow to pass it and get it intercepted. JuanFer rarely gets deflected or intercepted in those same types of tight windows/passing lanes. That said, Paraguay in Florida is a different environment and style of play so maybe I am being too harsh but that was my honest observations on the fly.
Colombia is where OGs go to retire. JFQ playing FPC at 30 is not going to end well. Time to move on as much as I think he's still a fin player to watch.
You're forgetting how he completely revived his career when he went to DIM in 2017. But, fundamentally, I do agree. We shouldn't stifle Carrascal and, potentially, Yaser's development for JFQ and James who are on the decline. I'm positive James and JFQ can and will contribute to the next qualifying cycle. But I don't want Carrascal to be handed that role with barely any experience in it when those two eventually get injured.
¡Fin del viaje! 'Juanfer' Quintero fue desconvocado de la selección Colombiahttps://t.co/GypheL6lE8 pic.twitter.com/MYcrCShqw9— Win Sports (@WinSportsTV) March 25, 2023
Can we like not ever call this dude again? I really want us to move on from one of the most disappointing players in our history. His fitness and injuries occurring have really been a concern for a good while and it's best to just focus on the current players that can actually contribute...
Qué bueno sería que el comunicado de la FCF viniera así de detallado, no dejaría campo a ninguna especulación.— Juan Felipe Cadavid (@JFCadavid) March 25, 2023
Our midfield is going to be a big problem this cycle if we don't develop some players there fast. Deep playmakers like James and Quintero can work, but they still need to stay fit and I'm not sure we have the management to pull this off. Not calling Alzate is crazy to me, against a team like Korea and Japan who will press us and run like crazy he's the perfect profile.
I think Lorenzo is handling everything perfectly, the way he's incorporating the newer guys while slowing easing out the older guys.
right, that imo is the saddest part, Korea themselves are not much of an attacking threat but all they had to do was pin us against the wall repeatedly and they were able to fabricate a pair of goals, completely avoidable situation and totally unnecessary. James was fine all things considered, but problem is the teammates surrounding him need to be prepared to cover him at all times which right now I do not see Colombia in that mindset yet despite the fact that we have the players for that imo. perhaps someone like Wilmar Barrios would have come in handy here, now that i think about it
Los 9s deben ser Duran Borre Suárez Extremos Arias Díaz Sinisterra Valoyes Mosquera cuando se recupere Diez Carrascal James Yaser por encima de Quintero 8s Uribe Puerta Mantilla 5s Castaño Portilla Barrios
Lerma when healthy seems to be Lorenzo's preferred 5. That said, he seemed to be Rueda's too until a few games in when Barrios played well against Argentina so anything can happen.
Yea I was kidding just remember us being linked to Italy but didn’t get the game because we wanted to play In the us
I love this period when all we have is our optimism! And a pinch of Doogs' pessimism! Right now, I'm just dreaming of getting to Sept and being able to field something like: -------------------- Duran ----------------- Diaz ------------Carrascal-------------Sini ----------- Barrios --- Asprilla--------- Machado - Lucumi - Cuesta - Munoz --------------------Vargas------------------
