This has the earmarks of an Isco type job if you ask me. Renewal based on a few games is not a way to run a club. Same should be said about Asensio.

I think the situations between Ceballos and Isco are very different for various reasons. I agree that I don't trust Asensio though, he's shown himself to be lazy and uncommitted throughout his time in Madrid.

    1) Isco had already "peaked" when he got his renewal, so there wasn't a good probability his performances would continue to improve. With Ceballos it looks like he is just entering his prime and with more and better opportunities an improved player should emerge.

    1) Isco only played one position (AM) and really only had one skill (dribbling). Ceballos is much more dynamic (size, athleticism) and has a more diverse set of skills (shooting, passing, defending) even if he isn't as good at anything as Isco was at dribbling.

    2) The club made a mistake with Isco by keeping him long after he ceased contributing because of nostalgia and he was player Zidane was fond of.

Asensio is far more an Isco than Ceballos.

Last year Ceballos came on and played the same role. He isn't the starter but he does well in this role where we can lean on him or he can be a spark late season.

We have Asensio on the other hand who basically went on vacation and this season is trying to make us forget it all.

    Never.

Ceballos has always been in shape and hard working. Opposite of what Isco became from 2018-19. His game lacked maturity but that has been changing from last season itself.

    Genuinely curious what that means.

What he lacks in footballing iq he compensates with creativity and motor. You don't need to be good at everything to be a top player.

Used to be positionally weak, running all over the place with little effectiveness. Spell in Arsenal where he played in a deep role under Arteta did him a world of good.

Ceballos is the type of rotation player we want first off the bench. Versatile and gives their all. Kinda like Nacho at defence. Kinda like in attack we have... Oh wait nevermind.

This is the key. He's a decent rotation option, given what he cost, the wages and how often players struggle to adapt here. I think some are getting carried away with a good run of form but we should keep him.

It's a no brainer. Something like a 3 year deal would be perfect, since Kroos and Modrić are gone soon.

She isn't wrong. Gavi has to be the most overrated player in recent history.

But I think most here would agree, he should be getting much more playing time than he currently has.

Mental. Players need to keep their family out of business.

It's hard to be a rotation player if you never see any rotation. CA has used Ceballos enough which is why he might leave this summer.

Correct. The dad coach/agent/Manager that works out is the exception not the rule.

The only reason family members have anybody asking them anything is because they share the same last name as the guy that's making it happen.

He already left before and came back because he didn't have any offers worth taking. Left Arsenal and they immediately improved with other players.

We're kind of overhyping our own guys by a lot.

we renewed Lucas to play at RB (when he's a RW not a defender) and he's barely played since the renewal whereas Ceballos who has shown he can be a decent squad player in his actual role isn't worth the contract extension?

Only if they play and play well and we win, if we lose all our players are rubbish and all players at other clubs are much better, it's a see saw

Ceballos has never been as good as Isco was for a day in his life.

People forget that there was an open competition between Manchester City, Barcelona and Real madrid to secure Isco. He was absolutely magical, and he, despite what we think of his entire body of work, had his moments in a Madrid shirt for sure.

At 26 years old, Dani has peaked as a footballer. He’s not going to get any better and I’d rather clear him out then sign him to a 5 year deal. This is his last chance for a big contract and I just don’t see the point in keeping him. I’d rather we bring some new energy into the sqaud with a Castilla player or another young version of a Spanish player to compete for minutes.

So a 26 year old decent player, who's played well when called upon has experience at all levels and is well integrated into the squad is now surplus to requirements and should be released, 26 is now old? so old that we need new young energy with no experience, what will our squad look like if that's the template, not on board with any of that, he's not Eden or Mariano, he works hard for the team and is a good player.

I say keep Dani if he is willing to stay knowing he won't be a starter, we cannot have all superstar starters and subs too, nor can we have a bench full of newbies, experience is vital, a mixture of the two is what works, just look at our own team and what they have achieved, Luka was about the same age when he joined, IMO Dani is a quality player to have on the bench that we can call on if needed
