She might be excellent in her space, but the as a Republican, they have been non-cult MAGA since...ever. MAGA just brought their racism and sexism and homo/transphobia and misogyny out into the open. She's got to be well aware at how her party scoffed at their Autopsy Report. Pfeiffer is a bit more than just a podcaster. He is a left sided guru of politics, and would fit pretty much in smoothly with our group. So when he "fluffs" somebody from the right, that has weight to their validity. Jitty bringing up conservatism got the import part derailed, at least to me. It is that people the Republican party are talking to and about Republicans. They are making the call from inside the house, and they are conferencing us in on it. And it is important to hear not because we know their politics are different, but because they fundamentally see the world differently - they are fearful reactionaries who have an inherently pessimistic view of life. As an example, while we are talking about how to resolve problems with AI, they are saying things like kids should write essays like they did, before computers.
Thankfully it won't get past the Senate. As you say, it's all performative. Not to mention that some parents will just think their kid is going though "a phase." Man, you are really getting "God damnit! Get off my lawn!" I've had a couple of trans students who were quite fem looking. And I've see quite a few who were very non-masculine looking. Which, if I were still in the classroom, would do anyway. I sure as hell would violate that law, if it ever became. I mean, I have violated the law previously. I've had students talk about crimes they did commit, and were going to commit, and I told them I was going to keep their confidence. What I always told the students is that everything said it class stays in class, except for issues of safety. Which basically means, harm to self, harm or others, or intimate knowledge of a violent crime. And even the latter has many grey areas.
Even though Latter Days is specifically about a Mormon missionary, I find I relate to it quite a bit. The movie brings me to tears every time. It was written by the same guy who wrote "Sweet Home Alabama" and the mother is the same in both of them. It definitely has its corny parts but Jacqueline Bisset's line "Your church doesn't like alcohol or homosexuals; I'm definitely not joining" sums things up rather nicely. But I'm a Cheerleader is definitely camp and even though I spent 10 years off and on in non-resident ex-gay programs I find it is a bit too over the top in that regard - it feels more like someone who never went through it wrote it, rather than someone who actually experienced it - but then, it is supposed to be over the top, given it is camp (as in gay over-the-top drag queen camp, not camping in the woods). For a different and much more realistic perspective on ex-gay therapy and why people do it, I thought this Guatemalan movie was very spot-on (it almost gave me PTSD to be honest).
These things are already in place, in most places at least. I particularly love the part of violent activity. Really tells us what they think schools do (which is nothing). All schools, or just public? And does this include charter schools as well? What about the case when parents conflict? I don't think they understand what "sex-based accommodations" really mean in a school setting.

I guess what I am saying is economic liberalism still exists as a real thing in the real world - it just got renounced on the right. Maybe a better, non-US example of what I mean is Brexit. The Tories renounced how trade actually works when they embraced 'low regulation cakeism'. I'd argue that restoring ties with the EU is the conservative/centrist/moderate position - but it will be done on the left by Labour If that makes sense
Guess every potato truck will have to be stopped & examined now Oh my God. Idaho Republicans have passed a bill that would create a new crime called “abortion trafficking” which would restrict travel to other states to get an abortion and charge violators with a felony and minimum of 2 to 5 years in prison. https://t.co/fVLbIaV6JI— No Lie with Brian Tyler Cohen (@NoLieWithBTC) March 28, 2023
It still wouldn't spell what you'd want it to... It's true, tho. I called the severity and ugliness of this conservative Christian revival back in 2016. It's always right for me to be right.. all the time...
A MAGA judge in Texas has just reversed the approval of mifepristone by the FDA, 23 years ago. https://abcnews.go.com/Health/judge-reverses-fda-approval-abortion-drug-after-23/story?id=97894986 I mean why have a whole government agency, staffed with all kinds of medical and life science professionals, to assess drug safety, when a single judge can do it?
3D politics by the Repugs - appoint judges to make medical decisions = get rid of all the government health agencies = more tax cuts for rich guys. yayyy!! I'm surprised US women aren't calling for a nation-wide sex ban. maybe they will soon. actually - anyone know how to invest in Masturbation futures?
I’m late to this discussion, but I’ve been thinking a while that more hay should be made about how these laws are quite noticeably NOT in reference to Children’s Rights.
The utter madness and lunacy of the modern GOP has ben in full display this week, from the #TennesseeThree to the Idaho abortion law to this wacko judge and his decision below. This whole party is a danger to democracy and human rights. “Access to the most commonly used method of abortion in the U.S. plunged into uncertainty Friday following conflicting court rulings over the legality of the abortion medication mifepristone that has been widely available for more than 20 years,” the APreports. “For now, the drug the Food and Drug Administration approved in 2000 appeared to remain at least immediately available in the wake of two separate rulings that were issued in quick succession by federal judges in Texas and Washington.”
They have longed believed the ends (imposing their version of Christianity onto everyone) justifies the means.
We'll see what the appeal courts decide. The legal effect is that this is almost certain to get to the Supreme Court.
The WSJ is so ********ing wrong. There is no "glee" from democrats when an other Christo-facist judge is overturning FDA regulations and pushing back women's rights. The Wall Street Journal editorial page sounds the alarm: “Abortion has been a political gift to Democrats that they want to keep giving, which explains why they sounded almost gleefully furious on Friday after a Texas federal judge overruled the Food and Drug Administration’s approval of the abortion pill mifepristone.”
You know what the WSJ is, and we know what they are. Why worry about what they do? Bruh... this war is lost. All that's left is to live long enough to say, "I told you so" when these morons start losing immediate family
