Alidou should have scored after that good work from Ngankam.

Yeah just lift the shot a bit and keeper has no chance. Final pass lacking a bit so far but dominating possession.

What is it with this inability to defend corners. At all age groups this is a problem

LMAO Germany U18 lose to France U18, 4-3
XI=Seimen - Fritschi, Klemens, Reinhardt - Torsiello, Bierschenk - Raebiger, Aseko - Bischof, Maza - Pejzinovic.

nowhere near best XI and no Wanner, Ibrahimovic, Krattenmacher, Buchmann, Azevedo, etc too, LOL. None were in squad tbc.

Goals by Pejcinovic, Maza and Bierschenk

    LMAO
    Germany 2-0 lead
    France 3-2 comeback
    Germany 3-3 comeback
France 4-3 comeback in 87th min
Germany chance for 4-4 comeback.........Weiper misses PK in 90+3, LOLOL

"It's a pity that we didn't reward ourselves, because we deserved a draw, also because we missed one or the other big chance," said Wörns. "In the end we lacked the intensity against physically strong Frenchmen, but we demanded everything from them."

the 2005 age group have a HUGE HUGE knack in forcing the best out every team they play against even the physically superior teams. They've had so many wins vs such teams due to their technical skills and abilities they are able to win anyways and that's more important than physicality edges that disappear come U21.

we've seen it with them since U15 days too vs more physical=no problem.

they rarely lose but also rarely play with best team ironically.

Not big on 3 atb, thought the 05’s looked fine with a back 4 last year. Fritschi + Buchmann with Azevedo LB and Walde RB.

agree I loathe back 3 tbh. That's 1 + about Nagelsmann firing as he wanted to force back 3.

they played back 2 but LMAO at the RB and LB they played with. Looks like Fritschi was RB and Bierschenk was LB, LOL. Fritschi is a CB not RB and Bierschenk is a W not LB.

is it any wonder that 2005 concede 4 goals vs France, not really.

even that Fritschi+Buchmann pairing 1st time they played together=U17 Euro itself never before.

I also think having 2 CF pair in Pejcinovic-Torsiello vs France doesn't make sense either. Should have played only with 1 CF would have made more sense.

imagine that XI is all over place and according to coach Germany should have had MIN D the match and could have won it too.

Asta who came on at HT is likely to be left out from U21 Euro in Summer anyways.
    Fischer+Vagnoman are the real options.

I'm fine with going down, now let's see the team make a comeback.

curious to how people rate Atubolu as a GK.

I dunno, I feel like he comes off more of a Trapp, Leno, Baumann level GK potential wise.

Japan is poor and if Germany would finish and not make blunders should be like 4-0 or 4-1 already.

I'm still iffy about Huseinbasic too many Bosnian fans who say he'll join Bosnia Senior NT in Fall.

I really wonder why these players bother with Germany if they want to bail in the SAME YEAR.

Kinda hard to judge right now, I agree on the Trapp comparison he has similar solid shot stopper traits. When he takes over as no.1 at Freiburg and plays regular BL I guess we can get a better idea of his potential. He’s one of a few coming up that look like future BL starters, the step from that to elite rarely happens until mid 20’s though. Main thing is we see a few make it so they all mature by the time Ter Stegen and Trapp are getting older. Not sure he needs to start every single u21 match though.

Interview with new u21 call up Henning Matriciani - https://www.ran.de/amp/fussball/u21...debuet-japan-rumaenien-physiotherapeut-170933

Henning Matriciani exclusively: "Had actually finished becoming a professional"

Henning Matriciani is in the U21 line-up for the first time, which deals with the test matches against Japan (from 5:45 p.m. live on ProSieben MAXX and in the live stream) and against Romania (28. March, from 5:30 p.m. live on ProSieben MAXX and in the livestream) tune in to the European Championship in the summer. In an exclusive ran interview, the Schalker talks about his path from physiotherapist to professional football and the new style of the "Knappen".

Henning Matriciani is working with Schalke 04, especially on class retention in the Bundesliga, which is no longer considered possible in between. The defensive all-rounder rose to become a fan favourite within a few weeks because of his tireless efforts.

Now he also wants to become a U21 national player. Coach Antonio Di Salvo called the 23-year-old for the first time and could call him in the test matches against Japan (from 5:45 p.m. live on ProSieben MAXX and in the live stream) and against Romania (28. March, from 5:30 p.m. live on ProSieben MAXX and in the livestream).

In the exclusive ran interview, the Schalker shooting star talks about his crazy way from physiotherapist to U21 national player and about a phone call in which he first became suspicious.

In addition, the Lippstadt native explains that he had already finished with professional football and why he fits so well with the "Royal Blues". He also sees the reason for the run of the Schalker in the support of the ranks.

Matriciani: From physiotherapist to U21 national player

Ran: Would you have thought three years ago as a player of the regional league club SV Lippstadt that you would be part of the U21 national team today?

Henning Matriciani: Honestly: no. I also didn't think that I would play as a professional in the Bundesliga. And I never expected to be used so often by the professionals. Of course, I'm very happy about that. Everything is actually possible in football.

Ran: What did you do at the time?

Matriciani: I finished the training and then worked as a physiotherapist for a few months. After work, we went to training. That was already a different world than today.

Then came the call from Gerald Asamoah. How surprised were you?

Matriciani: I didn't expect it at all and at first thought someone wanted to take me in their arms. But then I realised relatively quickly that this was serious. And I knew very quickly that I had to take advantage of this opportunity at Schalke. Otherwise I would always have been annoyed.

Ran: Did you still expect it?

Matriciani: I had actually finished becoming a professional. Although I had been to Arminia Bielefeld in the junior performance centre, I returned to my home club in Lippstadt at the age of 16 and started training. Therefore, of course, I was happy to get a chance so late. And I would say I used them. I am an example of the fact that even late starters can make their way in professional football.

Ran: What were your plans back then?

Matriciani: I had prepared to only play football on the side and earn a little extra money with it. The fact that it then happened quite differently is of course a very nice experience. At the moment things are going really well at Schalke and I hope that I can also bring this spirit to the U21.

Matriciani hopes for European Championship participation with the U21

Ran: What does it mean for you to wear the eagle on your chest now?

Matriciani: For me, a dream comes true, although of course I would be even more happy if assignments were now also added. Of course, I would like to be at the European Championship and will give everything in favour. Let's see what comes out of it.

Ran: How important will the last two test matches be before the European Championship finals against Japan and Romania?

Matriciani: Of course important, everyone can show themselves again and it gives us a good feeling if we ideally go out of the two games with two victories. That's why I also hope that I can celebrate my debut.

Ran: Your coach Thomas Reis said that you had more than earned this first nomination through your achievements at Schalke. There was also a lot of praise, especially after your performance against Dortmund (2:2). How did you deal with it?

Matriciani: I handled it relatively loosely. Of course, it pleases and motivates you to see all the pictures and comments of the fans and also the fellow players on social media. Fun is part of it, as with the Goat tweet on the S04 account, but you just have to be able to assess it and then continue.

Ran: Was the derby against BVB with their celebrated slides a perfect game for you?

Matriciani: Sure. It distinguishes us as a team at the moment that we want to defend the goal with all our might and knock everything in for it. The enthusiasm of the fans is correspondingly great, and that then gives tailwind again. I think I fit in quite well with Schalke with my combative playing style.

Matriciani on the reasons for Schalke's success

Ran: Where do you see the reasons for the turnaround after the World Cup break?

Matriciani: The support of the fans before the restart has definitely given us an additional push. When you finally score and play to zero, self-confidence is back. And the automatisms on the defensive also fit much better now. And then at some point you also score your goals and win the games.

How do you approach the next few weeks after the international break?

Matriciani: We want and must connect to the good performances, because we need every point. Of course, the Schalke fans help us enormously to mobilise the last percentages. I think every opposing team trembles a bit before the game in the arena against us because of this atmosphere. In any case, we will do everything we can to stay in the race for class retention.

Matriciani is basically Howedes in look, lol. And also that flexibility too.

him at #1 should be Summer 2023 or Summer 2024, so very soon.

that's true will take time to see if ends up Elite or not. But I feel like he really needs to step up more in order to become one. And that is why I find U21 GK annoying as it really is gonna be Atubolu until 2025......

for now yeah the 4 who are #1s in Atubolu, Fruchtl, Schreiber, Urbig look to have best prospects for now+add Nubel and Dahmen. Wait and see on all others who need to breakthrough 1st. We likely will have to wait until Summer-next season to see if more will breakthrough. But from 00-onwards its good to see that we went from 0 to 3.5 breakthrough (a half is Atubolu) REAL pros THIS season aka above 3rd Liga. 3rd Liga has been dead end for GKs for years and years now.

This was 05 AM/W Maza's SOLO goal that started near halfway line vs France U18 today.

Maza is one of those players that jumped to relevance to Germany U18 during U15-U17 had 0 relevance too. Yeah that technical skills for solo ability is something one sees in MOST of the 2005 age group. Maza is well on his way based on Germany U18 showings this season of making himself one of the core 2005.

also this season for Hertha U19 he singlehandly destroyed Liverpool U23 too.

crazy amount of talents Hertha have in attack with
Popp, Mendes, Maza, Rolke, Hadziadvic, Dardai #3 just from Hertha U19.

Slovenia U19 seems to be dark horse in our group
    Slovenia U19 vs Belgium U19, 0-0
    Slovenia U19 vs Italy U19, 0-0

Imagine had Italy and us had a D instead of an L. Now we need to win 2 matches none-negotible and also hope Italy drop pts so D or L vs Belgium.

funny is that this is what happened last year and Italy won anyways so whatever happened in our match was irrelevant.

but 1st of all we need a W vs Belgium.

with that win, Germany U17 is basically qualified even if we lose to Spain U17. Due to 6 pts and a +8 GD.

Spain U17 is currently almost done vs Turkey U17 and still 0-0.
and some online were like Spain U17 is one of best in Europe, they barely beat Finland 2-1 and currently 0-0 vs Turkey.

Brunner who had assist vs Turkey continues his good run in International footy whether UEFA YL or Germany.
