I think you meant 7D and 5A vs 6D and 6A. That counts fullbacks as attackers in 4-2-3-1, not something normally seen on this club.
The 3-4-1-2 is more likely to feature attacking wingbacks. 5 attackers would be an increase.

Disagree, just because the current backs are not doing it does not mean they are not supposed to.

I’m expecting DAA to make that different, but the right side remains weak…unles Dean, or Herbers, or MHS, or Burks surprised us. Xmas tree doesn’t fix it, but maybe Teran as RCB could be enough support to play Herbers there.

We dumped the one outside back that tried to attack and replaced him with one that had a reputation for being defensive. You can’t just will this stuff away.

Not that it matters - 4-3-2-1 would be a Christmas Tree, right?

I wrote that earlier but deleted it.

Maybe he has a weird x-mas tree.

Ezra says this was our formation when we put on Aceves:

"we didn't mind when we wanted to go into a 5-4-1 or 3-5-1-1, whatever you want to call it".

An “emphatic no” from Ezra on playing Gutierrez in the 10 with Shaqiri on the wing.

    49th minute of the replay.

might need to figure out a way to get two CAMs on the field

Over/Under on Shaqiri’s total minutes this year?
    1500?1800?2000?

    Guti gets the rest

Since this the "tactics and formations" thread, I hope Ezra Hendrickson figures out that having the two best attacking players on the team might make the attack more attackish and play both of them at the same time.

Oh, and having two strikers would help on that front as well.

Reading/hearing two things in conflict with each other…
Do you believe we have 2 strikers that would be consider best XI players on the roster?

Even if the two strikers aren’t best 11, I’d rather have two up top than two keepers on the field…

Ritchey does not rank close enough to even have that discussion philosophically.

The 2 strikers comment didn't match with the argument for 2 CAMs because Guti is bestXI...and we definately don't have 2 strikers in the XI

Who are our best XI??? I'll start....Czichos, Fede, Guti, Teran, Gimenez, Mueller, Kamara, Brady, Shaqiri...gets harder...2 of the next 3 Herbers? Dean? Pineda? Przybylko??? Haven't seen enough from DAA to rank...missing the sitter didn't help.

    Best format for them?

I rate MHS over Herbers right now on the right wing

For me it would depends on who we are playing...
MHS is a more traditional winger...he fades as soon as he does any D work and gets lost. Provides link up play on the attack
Herbers is an athlete than works and work...he tires out the other team...strong shot...but he is a yellow card machine and not a fluid on the attack.

Not sure which of the formations MHS would be a clear better choice...

Based upon year-to-date performance, Dean should be on the field. Also, for the same reason, Guti needs to be CAM. Try this for a few matches and re-evaluate.

Play the "best XI players on the roster?" THAT has not been a consideration in years.
Has Ezra ever played the best 11 players on the roster at the same time? I don't think so.

Hell, we barely have 11 decent players on the roster at the moment, so selecting a "best XI" would be damn near impossible.

Also, to answer your question, Kamara and Przybyłko are 2 of the best 11 players on the roster and both should start.
    Shaqiri and Gutierrez should start.
Not that difficult, but I am sure you will post a 20 paragraph post with 12 different line ups to refute that.

We have the all-time No. 3 goal scorer in MLS and one of the best strikers from 2019-2021 on the roster (who scored 35 goals in those three years).

When we have our mythical "DP9" you have been fapping about for weeks, it should probably be Przybyłko and the DP9, or (perhaps) just the DP9. Can't know until we see who this magical player will be.

I actually (perhaps counter-intuitive) like seeing Kai coming off the bench in a super sub role. I think that would keep him fresh all season and he comes in and is a beast for tired defenses to handle. The worry I have is if he starts alongside Kazcper (2 forward formation that I do like) we really do not have much for subbing them at a forward spot.

This is accurate. I’d add Czichos, Teran, F. Navarro. After that, I’m pretty open.

Spot on, especially right now with our injuries. You need your best players on the pitch, we failed to do that last year by keeping Duran or Przybylko off. From the little I saw of Kamara and Przybylko on the pitch together gets me excited. Both smart players that look for teammates to link up with, we needed both to be at their best to beat Miami, they were so we won.

3-5-2 should be our formation, insert those 4 above and work out the rest.
