If you want to get a fix just read the comments under any Gio-related article on social media, every variation of the joke will be there for your endless fulfillment.
Yeah, If the Reynas have seen what they have done to their rep and their kids’ rep, they would have likely kept their mouths closed. Every Gio story receives comments such as “Did Gio’s mom okay this article?”, “Did Gio’s mom call their coach?”, etc. It’s going to be ugly for awhile, and maybe for the rest of his career.
i think its weird that gio scored all those goals (most of them amazing) and has now been basically benched.....didnt really expect that. they wouldnt be in first place right now without all of those goals he scored. would be nice if he was playing.....but at this point I dont think it is really something urgent or anything.... the long term is what matters. hopefully next season, bvb will have sold more players and he will finally start an entire season healthy....then...sky will be the limit. I think BVB wanted him to start last season and this one but he hasnt been healthy.....so....it makes sense they wont wait around forever....but I hope they can help him get back on track.
In 2019-20 he made 15 BL1 and 2 CL appearances, mostly off the bench. In 2020-21 he made 32 BL1 and 8 CL appearances, mostly starts. 2021-22 was mostly a bust due to chronic muscle problems. This season, he's made 16 BL1 and 6 CL appearances, but only 7 of those were starts and he was subbed off around the hour mark in 6 of them. That says that either they don't believe that he's 100% fit, or that he is but his performances in training and on the pitch aren't good enough to warrant a starting place. I'd like to put my money on the latter - which is pretty much what Lille have been doing with Weah - and the fact that he's scoring goals this season does tend to support that interpretation, but starts are proof of the coach's trust in your ability and your body's capacity to support that ability..
I still think they are being careful with Gio. If he starts and gets decent minutes he doesn't play the next game. If he's off the bench he can keep playing every game but much smaller minutes. Isn't this pretty much how Weah was rehabbed a couple of years ago. It's frustrating for all but if Reyna is as healthy next Fall as Weah has been lately we will all be quite happy.
I'm a little confused by the Weah comp tho, as he has been a regular starter for LOSC like 12 out of last 13 games or something. (Or maybe you meant "former" rather than "latter" which makes more sense.) But with BVB there is very little incentive to change things up rn. Why Gio isn't getting more time with the injuries is anyone's guess but it's hard to argue the results and little reason to change things up till results change.

With the title and the Pokal (quarter final against Leipzig coming up) to play for, they're not going to interrupt the formula that's delivered a 10-game unbeaten run domestically so, unless and until someone gets injured, freeing up a position, or Gio starts playing opponents off the park when he comes off the bench, nothing will change. From what I'm reading and based on how he's playing this season compared to my (probably inaccurate) recollection of how he did in his breakthrough season, he has regressed somewhat, from an "outstanding prospect" to "perfectly decent", or from starter/rotator to squad player. That may be because he wants to play more cautiously, or has been told to do that. With recurring muscle fitness problems being a massive problem when they happen to a young player, I'd say it's probably bot, but we won't know until next season. Personally, I wouldn't have called him up for this window for that reason. Let him stay at home and train so that he'll be fresher and fitter than anyone who's been on international duty, media scuttlebutt be damned.
They had to call him up this window to squelch all of the circus stuff revolving around him and the national team.
Celebrations one thing...he just kinda looked slow except for the one burst at the beginning of the second half. Not a ton of hugely memorable plays. A problem when you're playing Grenada.
Maybe he is an overly protected, overly praised privileged kid, with some pretty F’up parents, who isn‘t getting his way/things aren‘t going his way, and he has to learn to how to deal with it. I‘ll take that one.
