It comes down to leadership. If I'm the chairman and a player comes to me to moan about playing time, I would tell him to sod off.
Welp it won’t be Tuchel. Just got hired as Bayern Munich head coach. Means Nagelsman is available again. I saw he was first choice after Mourinho got the sack.
Rose was asking about interest in his playing services from Milan if memory serves, and Mourinho and Levy were looking at each other like 'Wtf?' and there was no interest.
Nagelsmann would be interesting, but he might be feeling bruised by his Bayern experience and want a break.
If a players career is 14-16 years, then a manager having 18 months of it is a big chunk. Can't fanny around, got to hit the ground running.
We have not had a manager last a full season since Poch's last season, 2018-19. In the 22 years of Levy's chairmanship, only one manager has had his contract renewed and that was Poch. Absolutely shocking.
Wrong German manager. You're thinking of Hansi Flick. But add Nagelsmann to the list of managers I would rather hire over Poch.
I'm reading Bayern acted quickly since they heard Tuchel was close to agreeing to join us. 2 things - Everything becomes 'lulz, Sperz miss out again'. People will be praising Bayern management for being so decisive while at the same time criticizing Levy for being trigger happy.
Levy's getting heat, whatever happens; but probably not for trigger-happiness on this occasion. Nobody thinks Conte's position is tenable now. He's fired himself.
Home Spurs Tottenham Hotspur News Spurs Tottenham given huge Julian Nagelsmann chance as Chelsea favourite Thomas Tuchel finds next role Tottenham news: Antonio Conte looks destined for an exit from north London and a new possible management opportunity has arisen Yes please...............perfect for us.
Not on this occasion, no - but my point is that we are held to a different standard. The things Spurs are criticized for happen at other clubs too, and they are somehow painted as positives, or at least ignored. Newcastle haven't won a trophy in over 50 years. In that same period we've won 9, by my count. But we are the ones that never win anything. Our own fans do this as much as others.
We have won 2 League Cups in the last 32 years. For a club of our size, talent, and resources, that is an abomination, regardless of who we compare that with.
Our "size, talent and resources" have been consistently 6th or 7th highest among English clubs. And that's exactly where we stand in terms of number of trophies over that time, which you chose specifically to exclude our last FA Cup.
Basically this. Had a chat with my Spurs supporting brother who said that he believes, from a business aspect, Levy doesn't push Spurs to win because to do so would require huge investment and the prize money for the Premier league, champions league and the other trophies doesn't justify the kind of outlay required to win them. He has a point. In turning the Tottenham Stadium into an entertainment hub Levy is ensuring that the club can pay for trophies outside of its current earnings on the football front. The potential, once it's up and running and grounded, will be huge.
Bayern Munich sack Nagelsmann and appoint Tuchel Bayern Munich sack manager Julian Nagelsmann after less than two years in charge and appoint former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel. Attribution European Football Posted 2 hours ago2h Let's appoint him instanter.
We won the FA Cup in 1991 - From 1992-2023 we have won just the two League Cups. That's 32 years by my reckoning. But it sounds worse if you look at what we've won since 1984 - 1 Fa Cup and 2 League Cups in almost 40 years. That is abysmal.
Villa and Everton are two similarly large, traditional English clubs with pedigrees (at least) equal to ours as of 1991. Why is no one banging on about how they don't win shit anymore? And think before you attribute our superiority over them to the 'talent and resources' part ... because virtually all of it in those two in those departments is down to Daniel Levy.
I think they do get shit. The Everton board cannot even go to the games such is the anger of their support. But you can't say we are on the same level as them. A player going from them to us would be a major step up in their career.
I only meant that those clubs' inabilities to land silverware these days does not feature in virtually all commentary about those clubs in the same way that so much commentary on Spurs does. And the answer is implied in your second comment. We are on a different level as them, but it's a difference that has been achieved largely over the very period utilized to illustrate how poor we've been - 'an abomination, regardless of who we compare that with'. Well, not compared to Everton and Villa, which are similar-size clubs, but which we have, admittedly, surpassed in revenue and talent, largely due to the stewardship of the current chairman. In other words, we get shit for not winning shit because we are competing for shit. Some similar-size clubs don't, because they aren't.
Ok ... I'm fine with Nagelsmann being our primary target. That's a manager that any Spurs fan should be excited about getting in. But if we dick around and miss out on him, and end up losing Pochettino because we faffed around waiting for Nagelsmann, I will be beside myself. In other words, I'll be happy with either, but livid if we get neither. If he doesn't want to come until the summer, fine. But get him under contract now. We cannot have another summer like the one that ended with Nuno. Don't fanny about, Levy. Get this done.
Nagelsmann has said he'll consider Spurs if top 4 is achieved so there's the incentive. You're entitled to want Poch but I think you're wrong.
