No doubt about it. She's more than happy to make other women suffer through it because of her religious beliefs, but is distraught when she has to endure what she forces other women to endure. My version of the Golden Rule, call it the Bronze (Age) Rule, is to treat them the way they desire to treat others. You think others should carry non-viable pregnancies to term? You'll no doubt enjoy doing the same with the righteous knowledge that this is what you forced on others. And you should be reminded of it every day of your non-viable pregnancy.
Live it, lady. Own it, birth it, bury it. You probably voted for it. One of the beautiful moments in politics is when bad things happen to the people who thought bad things happened only to POCs or the poor
She'll likely get a Faux gig saying how it "wasn't such a big deal after all" and "whiners should just buck up" and carry their unviable carbon blob to term
Like how so many Berliners never expected their favourite jews to get purged. Or how Brexiteers never expected their poverty wage rural labourers to be forced out of the country
Something I found super interesting about the Sarah Longwell focus groups is even evangelical identifying trump voters don't like these super religious types. They correctly identify them as weirdos
I wonder how representative those focus groups are though? Sarah Longwell seems to need her head examined anyway - a lesbian Republican? Nice that she was able to marry her wife in 2016, despite the consistent efforts of her Republican party.
her story is very interesting and she is highly regarded for her work on RVAT leading up to the 2020 election where they used vox pops from voters who had voted for trump in 16 but had turned against trump. The idea being voters would be more amenable to messaging from their own people. As for the lesbian aspect she has discussed this a lot. The rising fascism is of course why she is working against her own party. I find the takes of miller, Sykes and Longwell to be valuable because they understand GOP voters much better than anywhere else you see online.
Eh? She spent the last 8 years working on campaigns to help dems defeat MAGA candidates? Remember it would have been the easiest thing in the world for these people to simply switch to trump and make fortunes as GOP operatives. Instead they set their careers on fire to do the right thing. Dan Pfeiffer recognises Longwell as the leading expert in her space and frequently quotes her work
I still find it hard to swallow when people call Lincoln Project people, Michael Steele, Kasich, Sykes, etc "brave" because they opposed a Russian-backed Nazi as president. If it has been DeSantis in 2020 they would've fallen into line.
That’s nice. The GOP’s attacks on minority and women’s rights predates MAGA by decades. The Judiciary that actively seeks to remove these rights are GOP nominees- do you really believe Trump could have named a judicial nominee on his own? It isn’t just the MAGA side of the GOP that stop legislation to codify these rights. It’s all of the GOP. So yes…she’s a selfish asshole. She’s fighting for the survival of a party whose core political belief is selfishness. She just realizes that the MAGA movement has the potential to either completely destroy the GOP as a nationally relevant political party or turn this country into a fascist state. That doesn’t absolve her for her support for the rest of the party’s views and actions
I don't think I said it did, though I am not sure exactly how much absolution is really necessary. The GOP was not a monolith. My main point is it seems strange to attack the people who have been amongst the most critical in fighting MAGA as compared with actual or borderline grifters like Lincoln Project. Again I simply repeat that Longwell and Miller are highly respected amongst top progressives like Pfeiffer.
..and they will turn back to Republican nonsense and attack Democracy once the "fascism" has run its course. Republicans are not a monolith? There are core values. Those core values are horrid. We have had had 40+ years of Reaganomics, and every damned one of them would worship at the alter of Reagan if he was resurrected. She, and the other "never Trump" Republicans believe those core values. They are not to be trusted. "Attacking" the assholes who are "most critical" in "fighting" MAGA? You mean the assholes who set up the monster that is MAGA? The fact their monster has turned on them is on them. Frankly, they are fighting the stupidity component of MAGA and not those core beliefs. I don't care who Dan Pfeiffer fluffs. You spend way too much time and put way too much faith in podcasters.
It's an interesting question, which goes beyond the US, as to what happens with actual moderate conservatives these days I've argued a few times that of the regular posters on this forum, the only actual conservatives are me, @Dr. Wankler, @JohnR and @argentine soccer fan of whom ASF is the most conservative by some distance. I don't mean by that we vote GOP, we are all part of the Dem coalition Basically moderate conservatism is dying everywhere, but i feel it does actually form the Bulwark against illiberalism.
The conservatism these ex-Republicans wanted never existed and the people they worshiped were either low-key fascists (Buckley), had a strong desire to be liked and would've sold their mothers to be on a marquee (Reagan), thought that the idea of child labor laws and anything FDR passed was an awful thing (a ton of business people), or the idea that minorities should have a seat at the table is a bad thing (Whitelandia circa the Civil Rights Act). I'm glad the likes of Longwell and such had a conscious and realized it, but it shouldn't have taken a sleazy reality TV show host for them to open their eyes. Especially to something that's been evident for years. And there's a reason Bob Dole didn't have an issue with Trump at all.
