I always find it amusing that MLS players are all total garbage until they transfer to Europe upon which they overnight become the most promising talent ever for the USA.
I, for one, can’t wait for Gregg to be announced as coach, if nothing else it will galvanize our squad who clearly support him. There are also a number of posters on here who have promised to stop following and supporting the USMNT if that happens….we’re policing ourselves, just like the USMNT lol
The idea that winning CNL and GC (two trophies!!!) Is good but winning the euro cup means nothing. MLS players were such a drain this cycle.
There is nothing meaningful about it. The example I gave should illustrated that to you. Teams often outperform with a new coach and then drop back off to their level. It is neither an indicator of the prior coach or the new coach. I guess someone could interpret to mean the old coach is stale and needed to move on but doesn't indicate anything more than that.
Haha.... usually when someone makes a statement with despite in the middle, the second part refutes the first. Henry is outside the US soccer circle and isnt an MLS coach. I take Henry in second over Berhalter. My preference for him would have been last cycle. I think the group is ready for a more experienced coach, but prefer him to the American options i have seen.
Where do you guys come up with dumb stuff. The last group of guys that moved to Europe hasn't panned out that well and don't see folks yammering for Bello, Vines, etc. People who did call for those guys were MLS fans.
Meanwhile, through the MLS hate, Argentina struggled to beat Panama until an MLS player broke the deadlock... Which I think continues to highlight that while CONCACAF isn't "good", still tough to beat at times.
Panama really put on a show and the individual brilliance of Armada was off the charts. I cant remember the last time I saw Argentina "struggle" like this. I know it was an emotional night and all, but no excuse for that poor Argentina performance.
Argentina definitely got their taste of CONCACAF. THESE TACKLES FROM PANAMA ON LIONEL MESSI 😳 pic.twitter.com/S0a77fvoCJ— ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) March 23, 2023
And Panama got their taste of Messi. Panama getting toyed with is somehow a positive for concacaf and MLS. Yikes!!!
Because somehow a section of fans expect USA to manhandle and dominate Panama every game yet World Champions Argentina needed 2 set piece goals in order to beat them. People will say Berhalter (or any coach) should be fired for struggling to breakdown Panama while ignoring results that show it’s not that simple.
The brotherhood of MLS dorks! There is so much good stuff in here. Before the real topic, nice work slipping in that false claim that "our squad clearly likes him". Given the tone of your post im not sure what you mean by "our". I guess if you meant just MLS players, maybe, but even then it isnt clear. As for the actual players that deserve to play, nothing is clear. There three players who credit Berhalter with building a culture, feel bad for his situation, and would be ok with him as coach. What is clear is Gio Reyna do e set like him. John Brooks doesn't like him. Matt Miazga doesn't like. Ricardo Pepi had an opportunity to support him and didn't. That is more against him than for him. I've seen multiple version of this type of sentiment. I says a lot about the individual. I've seen other versions where they want Berhalter as coach to see all the people freak out. What is consistent in these messages as the guy they want as coach has nothing to do with the team, but the desire is solely for the impact it would have on a part of the fanbase. Not sure which is more despicable. What is clear about your statement is that you aren't good for the game in this country. Instead of growing the game, you want to shrink so you can sit in your MLS bubble. I still have no idea how you guys don't realize how small of a percentage MLS fans are of soccer in this country. The only growth in the league is from expansion and based on current trends, it starts to die off when expansion stops.
What are you talking about? Argentina destroyed Panama. This game looked nothing like our struggles in concacaf. I thought most people understood that goals can be hard to come by and odd results do happen in the sport because of it. Argentina was never in jeopardy of losing and it was only a matter of time before they scored. In thise rare cases that they didnt get a goal, it is nil-nil draw. Id be ecstatic if we dominated concacaf teams like Argentina just did. Did you look at anything other than the score? I mean the stats give a good idea of how the game went. The video I posted confirmed it. Have you been following the crowds in Argentina the last few days? What is clear is the everything leading up to, during and after was an absolute celebration.
it's not true - give examples players improve by playing at a higher level...that's why I get excited that players transfer out of MLS..not because transferring itself makes them good. look at Matt Turner - 6 months under Arteta and hes playing the ball out of the back like Pirlo....SIMPLY WOULDNT HAPPEN IN MLS.
@tefftlon I just watched the video again. I highly encourage all to do if they haven't. It is great to see such strong soccer culture be able to celebrate winning a WC (i think it feels just a little better than getting out of the group). Panama never threatened to score and Argentina was in control the whole game. Argentina had free kicks in dangerous spots all game, so the idea the needed them to score says nothing about their play and more about how overwhelmed Panama was. We are for some reason discussing how a 2-0 isnt very good, but the scoreline isn't indicative of the play. In addition to the goals, they hit the post twice, crossbar once, and had a legit PK not called.
I dont recall seeing a lot of people clamoring for these players. Pepi is the only player that I would have in a camp at this point. Ricardo Pepi (USA) - from FC Dallas to FC Augsburg Kevin Paredes (USA) - from DC United to Wolfsburg Justin Che (USA) - on loan from FC Dallas to Hoffenheim George Bello (USA) - from Atlanta United to Arminia Bielefeld Auston Trusty (USA) - from Colorado Rapids to Arsenal Daryl Dike (USA) - from Orlando City to West Brom Chris Mueller (USA) - from Orlando City to Hibernian FC James Sands (USA) - from NYCFC to Rangers FC Cole Bassett (USA) - from Colorado Rapids to Feyenoord Kyle Duncan (USA) - from NYRB to KV Oostende Caleb Stanko (USA) - from FC Cincinnati to PAS Giannina Dante Polvara (USA) - from NYCFC to Aberdeen
Now I can find a USSF/MLS shill and apologizer who has repeatedly stated he can't assess CCV and Tillman because they play in the SPL. Kind of wild that he can assess guys all the time that play in league where many of its players have failed in the SPL. I guess James Sands is lucky because his failure doesn't count against him. Can't wait to calls for him this summer after walking into an MLS side. I am personally at the point that MLS players should need to dominate for a season to get a shot at a January camp. If any actually outperform, they can get a tryout in March (or next window if we keep giving March to the Euro guys). The majority they don't show out in January can put together another solid year and try the following Janauary.
Europe isn't Shangri La....some players make it, some don't...... but Europe knows soccer and only buys the best from MLS. the players who dont make it europe and go back to MLS are still better than 99% of domestic players in MLS. thing is almost all of the MLSers arent good enough internationally...while only some of the Euros arent. focusing on the select european players who dont pan out to prop up MLSers is batsht logic.
Ok. Misunderstanding. I thought when you wrote that the team would do better because of you were suggesting there would be better performance in these two games because GB is not selecting players. I think you can understand why I would assume that is what you meant -- but I'm glad to know you did not.
Aaronson and CCV were the ones I was thinking of. It would be my view that the whole "Euro based player versus MLS player" is way overblown, not-productive, and vapid. Every player should just be evaluated fairly against the other options.
