I think people and fans mainly should put more respect and faith to this England Team! I mean Italy only scored because we get sloppy over time. We couldve bagged in one or two more. Totally agree we've got an inferiority complex which is rather irrational. Most of those teams we think we're inferior to are squads that are no more! Only fearsome teams since last year were England, Portugal, and France. We still carry that mindset from the Gerrard and Lampard Era

Praying he starts chilwell on Sunday not trippier. Also if Bellingham is out. Like to see Henderson alongside rice with maddison behind kane. I know it won't happen. Considering we are missing Mount sterling rashford we have pretty good strength in depth

I agree in general in what you say and winning in Italy should be respected but you can’t ignore that second half performance because we’ve seen this time and again and this attitude of sitting back and stop playing any football on the front foot to properly kill the game off is something we just can’t seemingly do and it must be an English mentality set up which we need to address.

Having said that, I do find it funny that everytime we beat a top footballing Nation the narrative is always ‘ it’s a poor Italy team ‘ just like it was a ‘ poor Germany team ‘ back in the Euro’s. There’s a running theme here and I can’t help but wonder if we had managed to beat France in the World Cup, I wonder what the general consensus would have been there….

He chests 50 yards balls down 10 times each game .. and even if he was slightly winded he still knew what he was doing- as he was well off the pitch but then started to crawl about 5 yards onto the pitch before collapsing .. I thought he’d taken a bullet
    :)

    Amateurish

Hardly amateurish though is it, being amateurish would have been staying off the pitch…..

Why entertain Tito? He obviously isn't an England fan and is only here to troll. On the night that Kane becomes England's all time top scorer all he can do is slag him off.

It is a poor Italy side in fairness but one that reached the Nations League finals in a group over England and Germany and are current reigning European champions. They're a side that always seems to find a way and this was their first Euro qualifying defeat in 41 games whilst being the first time England have beaten them in a competitive game in Italy. It was a massive win for us given it was our first and hardest game of a tricky qualifying section.

You do have have a point about losing control of games in the second half against better sides. We desperately need a controlling midfielder but I also think that Southgate is too timid in making meaningful tactical adjustments during games.

It was a game of two halves though and in the first we dominated and did enough to secure a deserved win.

I do think that Maguire's time is coming to an end. Colwill will make us much more comfortable at playing out of the back. Stones looked comfortable but Maguire is too hesitant, ponderous and invites the press. I actually think he's one of the big problems with us getting pegged back.

I think we saw last night that Conor Gallagher will win a lot of caps. He's a player that brings real intensity and was invaluable in closing down gaps late on that few other players can.

I also thought pickford dilly dallied on the ball too much. Its almost as if he's goading the attacker to take the ball off him

The result was far more important than the performance. Away to Italy in the first match after the World Cup we're not going to be seeing many changes. With that under our belt, and with Kane breaking the record, there's no excuse now not to be blooding some new faces.
    And the ref was abysmal.

I think there's still a bit of an inferiority complex amongst the management against the bigger teams. Our record is poor, and they get nervous with a lead. The more wins we get, the more confidence should grow.

Definitely thought we reaped the benefits of having a settled side in the first half.

Excellent win last night, when you look at the records this team continues to break you have to give a great respect to the players and management team - realistically if we win on Sunday then we are basically qualified in the first international break of the cycle which is incredible.

Thought we were excellent first half, playing some really good football from front to back and looking dangerous in the final third and solid at the back.

Second half wasn't great, we seemed a bit frantic on the ball and looked as though we were scrambled by two things - Phillips looking tired and not covering ground or using the ball effectively and the ref and his ridiculous yellows for timewasting when we were getting the ball back into play relatively quickly. I've seen us play slower than that when losing games and obviously not be punished (and was surprised he only added 5 on at the end as well)

Congratulations to Harry Kane, a fantastic achievement for a fantastic player

I think that Harry Maguire's time is coming to an end in England side - with the way the qualification period was set up with the 2 toughest games first there wasn't going to be many changes from Qatar, but if we can follow this up with a win on Sunday it enables Southgate to begin to look ahead to Summer '24 and look to make a couple of changes to the main XI

Still concerned at lack of depth in CM, but don't see anyone else out there at the moment - biggest hope is that Phillips can force his way into the City side one way or another because he still looks our best option when playing. I liked Gallagher's cameo but think that is about all he can do at the moment and JWP or Skipp or anyone else I've seen mentioned just don't look up to it to me.

Great win, roll on Sunday. I'm taking my eldest to his first ever England game so hopefully the boys can put on another show for him

Maguire needs to leave Utd. If he plays regularly at another team not over for him yet, but not ideal for a CB to play rarely.

I guess depends to where he drops to - if he goes to a mid table side aged 30 and plays regularly then you ideally want to get someone on the way up to replace him. Would be ideal if someone like Newcastle were to sign him as may re-ignite career again and keep him primed for England

The inferiority is real and justified.

It’s up to ourselves to start delivering when it matters every time we play them and eke out results that we don’t usually get.

The inferiority will then go away.

Spain managed to in 2008 somehow, I reckon of we'd have won that shootout with Italy in 2021 that would've been a turning point, but hey ho. Also against France the game could've gone either way.

I'm glad we won this game as it's so important, if we best Ukraine now on Sunday we are already in an excellent place to qualify as it will be hard to not pick up 3 points against the other teams.. it means we can start changing the team a bit. Refreshments are needed

I really hope that Levi Colwill and Rico Lewis feature in this campaign at some point. Still early days with them but I genuinely think they’re good enough to eventually replace Maguire and Phillips.
