Sell on agreement is the only way I can see it working.

As long as he plays regularly. It will be a huge step up from Groningen to PSV in terms of expectations. Lot of pressure on PSV next year, esp if AZ beats them out for 3rd. Wonder if that's the best next step.

It would be better than playing for Augsburg.

  4. If he gets coupled with Xavi Simons, who's on his way to become one of the Dutch soccer icons, he's going to bang in alot of goals.

  5. AZ will be second, behind Feyenoord. PSV and Ajax are going to battle for the 3d spot.

Probably 50 percent of the original fee.

why has the relationship with Ausburg cratered? It seems like something more than just his quality as a player, even if disappointing to them.

Word in Germany is that Pepi‘s agent said he doesn‘t want to go back. I think AFC knows Pepi isn‘t a stylistic fit. I think other teams know this which is why there is interest. I don‘t think the relationship has cratered TBH.
It‘s just that the initial fee was large. I was shocked when they submitted it. They aren‘t that type of club and the sunk cost is the major obstacle IMO. They just have to find a work around. Easier said than done.

Going to need a healthy sell-on fee % to make that deal work.

Xavi keeps all the goals to himself!

Wonder how long they hold on to him. Exceptional season. Gonna be a lot $$ thrown his way. (Doesn't PSG have a pretty cheap buy-back on his anyway? Wonder what the terms are. I wouldn't count on playing with Xavi if I were going to PSV. - just checked: 12 mill, can be exercised this summer according to the footie scribes)

  11. That would be the way to sweeten the deal. PSV gets Pepi for a bargain price and the sell on will be split 50/50 after the deduction of the transfer price paid by PSV. Let's imagine Pepi bangs in 25 goals, that might spur a sell on of about 30 million. Thay way Augsburg gets their money back and PSV makes a profit and Pepi gets a big pay rise. Win, win, win.

  12. Xavi calls the actions, as in his contract it's him who can trigger the PSG buy back clause of iirc 15 million. He's not going back there for sure as he wants to play and that's not a given at PSG. I think he's going to sign a new contract with PSV in which a sizable part of a transfer fee goes his way.
I think, if he stays at PSV and also goes performing for the Orange Squad, his tranfer fee is going to hit above the 70 million mark. So for PSV there's a lot of money left on the table if they split it 40% Xavi/60%PSV, especially as they didnot pay a dime for him.

Every report I saw says it's PSG's option (which makes the most sense), but I for sure don't know. If Xavi really did not want to return to PSG and they have a 12 mill E buyback, PSV will have to dump a bit money there - I suppose one option would be to gap the increase in the buy-back if Xavi stays. PSV would happily eat that.

In the summer of 2023, PSG will have the option to re-sign Simons for between €10m and €12m, but that fee will rise with each passing year. The buy-back clause is also not permanent and will expire on a certain date which, as of yet, has not been made public.

Bad scouting all around for Augsburg.

  15. Well, of course PSG must want him back in the first place, but in that case it's up to Xavi if he triggers the clause or not. PSG hasnot got a leverage to force him to come back.

    PSV's
They paid €7.7 million for Phillip Max and €7 million for Sangare in 2020-21, and €12 million for Bruma and €10 million for the season before. As for this year, if you add the Gakpo money sitting in the bank - all €42 million of it - to the the Madueke money you've got over €75 million in transfer income this season alone.

They can afford to pay Augsburg whatever is demanded. They shouldn't, of course, but they can afford it.

I'll trust you on this, but I don't think PSV can just keep him if PSG wants him back. If they trigger the buyback, I would imagine they could deal him. Now, if Xavi insists that deal is to PSV, that's one thing. My guess is they extend the buyback option if Xavi wants to stay and PSV has to cut PSG in a bit more on some aspect of the deal. But we shall see.

Xavi will also have other folks very interested. How much he likes being a lightbulb, and coming in 4th place in the Ered and missing out on any Euro play - lol - we shall see.

  18. If Pepi joins them, he has to hope they make it to the second place, as this gives them the qualifying rounds for CL group stage spot. In that case it's also most likely Xavi stays for another season.

So you're saying Xavi is gone! lol.

(I think Pepi would settle for anything vaguely European after riding the Groningen thresher into the Eeste...)

If Xavi continues at PSV and blocks a potential Pepi move, he'll have log jammed both Ledezma and Pepi in one year. Remarkable.

Xavi isn't Pepi competition though. He scores, but from midfield or wing. PSV's captain ancient mariner Luuk de Jong plays the CF spot these days.

de Jong ain't that jong no more. They for sure need a replacement for him. But it's a high pressure move. If it happens will be interesting to see how he responds. My guess is for the money they get someone slightly more seasoned, but who knows.

If things hold as they are PSV is out of any Europe consideration at all. They have tons of money. Bringing in Pepi if he were a cheap young prospect might make sense, but splashing cash on him and expecting him to become a relatively instant top producer is a bit risky. I'd love to see how it goes, but I'm dubious PSV don't get other cover there as well.

TBF, isn‘t that what a club like PSV is going to do anyway? If he gets the chance he simply has to take it. There will always be some young starlet waiting in the wings and the next transfer window to find someone else.

I just hope it works out. I am desperate to see Pepi on a team that plays on the front foot for once.
