I do think Mourinho could return to Real because Perez has a great relationship with him. Zidane is another option and maybe Xabi Alonso (his Leverkusen side beat Bayern on the weekend and are still in the mix to win Europa). The only problem for Ancelotti is keeping up with the younger managers like Xavi. But at his age, he's nearing retirement, so there's little point. Plus he has the experience and the older knowledge these young guns lack. Don Carlo played for Milan when they humiliated Real 5-0 in '89 and that's why he go to places like Anfield, down two goals, and come back winning 2-5 whereas a manager as talented as ten Hag, who doesn't have that experience, loses 0-7. Ancelotti is mostly loved by his squad and still has all his marbles. There's no reason for Real to can him before his contract is over. I think the only problem is Perez wants certain Spanish players to start and Ancelotti is a strong enough manager to stand up against his demands. Any respectable manager, including Mourinho and Zidane, would do the same: they don't let the president pick the team.
Wasn't Ancelotti a damaged goods after his stint with Everton ( finishing 12th and 10th in the league ) ? Thankfully, Real Madrid board is full of football people who knows how to separate the quality of the manager with the club they are in. They noticed Ancelotti was actually overachieved at Everton ( see where they are after he left ) they will also notice how Mourinho is actually doing miracle for Roma. Their conclusion will be pretty much the same as when they first hired Ancelotti like "the club is shit , not the manager" They are Real Madrid, they don't operate like most club. Trust me , losing the title to Barcelona is enough for them as a reason to sack their manager no matter what else the other competition he has won / will win or whether the players love him or not. The option therefore will be in Mourinho's hand. He might stay if you guys got into top 4 , but if it didn't, i am pretty sure he won't reject Madrid anymore
It's too soon to say these things. We shall see in the course of the summer, but I'm very confident Ancelotti and Mourinho stay put until their contracts end.
